Ms Qin was not killed. The Duke Heng Shan (Third Uncle) had kept Ms Qin's Mother as a hostage to get her to poison the cakes that MsTao carried. The threat about the 9 clan extermination was for dramatic effect. We see Ms Qin again in ep.29. (20:38) She is called Yuwei there and the Duke Hengshan is called Gong Ye. Apparently a term of respect. I believe we see her at the end in ep. 30 (27:44) as she serves the cakes. She works for the foodie Ms Tao.(Now Boss Tao) who opened the former pavilion as a restaurant/drawing room.
nine kinship exterminations = The punishment involved the execution of close and extended family members. The criminal's living parents The criminal's living grandparents Any children the criminal may have, over a certain age (varying over different eras, children below that age becoming slaves) and-if married-their spouses. Any grandchildren the criminal may have, over a certain age (again with enslavement for the underaged) and-if married-their spouses. Siblings and siblings-in-law (the siblings of the criminal and that of his or her spouse, in the case where he or she is married) Uncles and aunts of the criminal, as well as their spouses The criminal's cousins (in the case of China, this included up to second and third cousins) The criminal's spouse The criminal's spouse's parents The criminal But here it was a threat for show. Ms Qin pops up in the last episode, (27:44) but she is not named. The three concubines are together still, living outside of the palace.
@@gmatgmat Its amazing that anyone survived ancient china, it seems like whole cites could be wiped out with just a few criminals. Thanks for explaining it btw, I've always wondered about this.
