It saddens me when the accompanying artistes aren't mentioned. That is akin to not giving them any credit at all. We must not forget that all three of them - violin vidwan RK Shriramkumar, mridangam vidwan K Arun Prakash and khanjira vidwan Anirudh Athreya - stand miles above the vocalist in terms of learning and experience. I wish uploaders would take the trouble to add their names when posting concerts.
Beautiful Neraval. Really wish Mridangam volume was lower. Arun Prakash's Mridangam sound is kind of overpowering. Rakti Ragam like Bhairavi percussion volume should be lower to add beauty.
At 27:00, Ramakrishnan Murthy offsets the established notation for 'neerajakara nirupamananda kara' (and you can see the quizzical look from RK Shriramkumar, who I guess wasn't then his guru). He lands on the half-cycle with PA (as in niruPAma), instead of with MA (as in nirupaMA). Is that a big deviation? Yes, it is, because the long consonant in nirupama is MA. Also, here's another common error which refuses to die. In the very next line - the beautiful 'leelaya gopavesha dhara muraleedhara sreedhara damodaravara' - Murthy stops on 'muraleeeeeeee' (27:34). I know a great many people do that but here is the problem. If you stop on 'muralee', you are referring to a FLUTE (murali) dressed up as a cowherd. If you stop (correctly) on 'muraleedhara', you are referring to the one carrying the flue. Murthy has a long way to go before he can transition from singer to musician.
Simply grand. ஓஹோ ப்ரமாதம்.
