    Hi guys while he did everything right but still you won’t get the back screen 📺 if in Menu settings you are on HDR which should be OFF. I struggled for number of days but had the number one very helpful guy Steve from Nikon who helped me out. I am sharing this very critical point so people suffering similarly don’t suffer like I did. Thank Steve. Plus one more thing HDR will not work in RAW too. I am excited today.

    Thank you for this video! I was wondering how to exposure bracket while having everything in focus, the foreground, midground and background?

    • @frederikboving
      @frederikboving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sara! Uh, that depends on the distance to the subject:
      (1) If you shoot landscape with lots of distance, you may be able to get most of your image sharp provided you do NOT focus on infinity, but use the hyperfocal distance instead.
      (2) If you are close to your subject (product shoot say), then you need to combine focus stacking with bracketing. So say 3 brackets with 3 different focus points, in total 9 pictures you edit down to 3 images with 3 different focus points and then stack those down to 1 image sharp front to back.
      Not sure if that made much sense. Let me know if it did not, and I can maybe elaborate in a video!

Select menu: Edit->Auto blend layers (take the stack images option). Select menu: Layer->Flatten image. Press "c" to activate crop mode and cut away any misalignment at the edges (happens when you auto align typically). Select checkmark top center when done. That's it! Hope this helps! Points to add.
    1) In the menu you can select the order of the bracketed shots (I prefer to shoot low to high so the exposures are in order...makes it easer to find them in the Lightroom filmstrip)
    2) You can step you exposure up to 3 stops per image when doing 5 or less brackets...7 or 9 shot brackets are limited to 1 stop steps. This means you can actually span a larger exposure with 5-step brackets (5x3=15 stops) than you can with 9-step brackets (9x1 = 9 stops)
    3) Recommend you set in Aperture mode (i.e. vary shutter speed) to keep the depth of field the same, otherwise your background focus will change as the F-stop is changing

      Thanks for sharing. I have never tried so dramatic exposure bracketing but saw that the manual gives some limitations: "Note that for exposure increments of 2 EV or more, themaximum number of shots is 5; if a higher value was selectedin Step 2, the number of shots will automatically be set to 5" in line with your (2)

    This is helpful and I'm grateful for that. This video does not explain the HDR feature that is buried in the Photo Shooting Menu. If you have it set to on, the button on the front right of the camera doesn't work. Any idea what is happening?

    • @frederikboving
      @frederikboving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the built in HDR only combines 2 pictures and only works for JPGs. The built in HDR also comes with a lot of limitations like flash lighting cannot be used when HDR is in effect. My fn button front right is set to activate my menu and that works fine also when HDR is on. What is you fn button set to?

    • @wilkbor
      @wilkbor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frederikboving THanks for the reply..... I"m still experimenting with some of the customized function features, including back button focus. At the moment, my Fn button is set to the automatic level. I've noticed that to get the BKT button to work, the high HDR feature in Photo Shooting Menu must be set to off. While experimenting with the BKT button, I've noticed that it always takes the first picture at the correct exposure, then moves to the underexposed images and then to the overexposed images. I've also noticed that it adjusts exposure by moving the shutter speed up and down. Aperture and ISO values are left unchanged. Again, I'm grateful for the video and the reply.

    Because I bought my D750 in a non-english speaking country, I had to download the manual from Nikon's HP and in pages 202-204 this process is explained, but... and this is weird, the manual does NOT mention the use of the continuous modes at all, so I had to figure it out myself, and now Frederik is confirming this. When you go back to single picture shooting, don't forget to set the number of shots back to zero..! Greetings Frederik. How do you like using the D700 and the D750 together? I'm thinking of buying a D700 now. The D750 was still in the box, brand new, but I don't think I can find a brand new D700.

    • @frederikboving
      @frederikboving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Misha, no the D700 production was stopped in 2012, so you can only find used versions, but I do think there are copies out there with very low shutter counts still. I am still getting to know the D700 - I will post a video about the picture quality as my next video (there is something about thise pictures!). For now I have made this blog post about the pros and cons of the D700 as I know it by now - it may be updated as I go along and grow wiser:

    @annareid1170 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you for this video! Do you have to set the initial aperture and then the camera will go above and below it? Or does it just sense which stops to use for under and over exposure?

    • @frederikboving
      @frederikboving  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Anna, that is a really good question! I have never given that a thought - I've just used bracketing! According to the manual the first thing the camera will try to change is the shutter speed ("The camera modifies exposure by varying shutter speed"). So in most modes (A, P, S) it will simply keep everything the same and then vary the shutter speed up (normal, faster, slower), where "normal" is the value the metering system would have calculated for a non-bracketing exposure. The exception to this rule is when in manual mode - here the manual say that "in mode M, the camera will first use auto ISO sensitivity control to bring exposure as close as possible to the optimum and then bracket this exposure by varying shutter speed". So it looks like the camera to the extend possible tries to keep aperture constant across the bracketing pictures which also makes sense, since combining pictures with different depth of field potentially could lead to some funny results.

    • @frederikboving
      @frederikboving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, that is a very good question! As far as I can tell, you do all the right things. When you press the "info" button (to right relative to the rear screen), is the screen then activated? Or maybe there is some dust that prevents the bracketing button from going all the way in? You need to continuously push the bracketing button to set the exposure and number of shots, but I guess you've figured that already.

    • @frederikboving
      @frederikboving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave, QC = Quiet Continuous. I was not aware of that so I learned something new. I just tried to hold down the shutter wile in QC and it works fine. Try to see of the drive selector is firmly in QC - sometimes the camera allows you to put the selector between options and then it acts funny.
      Have you set the number of shorts > 0? Maybe a stupid question, but just to rule out this as a candidate explanation.
      And which mode is your camera in - Aperture priority? Try switching to fully automated and see if that helps.
