Proof you don't need to rap about: Getting laid, weed, cars & wealth. Just be real. Hell the budget for this video looks like $7 Love everything about this song.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It's one of my favorite's ever. He's got flow, a sense of humor and he's talking about some dark stuff for himself. I heard a friend saw him filming the homeless part and actually thought he had fallen that low. Yeeeahh he's still got it.
Fun facts about Fatlip!: - Original member of my favorite rap group of all time, The Pharcyde. He was the last of the 4 original members to join. - He was kicked out of the group for 2 reasons. Primarily for leaving during the supporting tour for the release of their second album, "Labcabincalifornia", in order to work on his solo career. The second reason being his fellow members' disapproval of his well-known crack and cocaine addiction. He himself claims he wasn't an addict but dabbled with cocaine, fellow musicians, producers, and friends disagree. Regardless, the remaining members of the group display their support of Fatlip and his solo career during concert footage in the documentary "Cydeways: The Best of the Pharcyde." It is assumed (especially by myself) that producer J-Swift (produced Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde) introduced Fatlip to crack, since his addiction began during that time. He is still in recovery; he was featured in the 2007 documentary "One More Hit", where he attempts to overcome his addiction and regain his music career. - The music video for this song was directed by Spike Jonze. Spike also compiled several interviews with Fatlip to release a documentary by the same title as the song. Spike Jonze also previously directed the music video "Drop" by The Pharcyde (Fatlip still being a member of the group during that time). - Fatlip appeared on Jackass, sliding down an escalator rail. He edited the footage into one of his music videos, "Worst Case Scenario." - The line "In the back of your mind, you probly thinkin' I was gay." was in reference to his part of the song "Oh Shit", the opening track of The Pharcydes' debut album "Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde". The song is comprised of fictional, comedic skits of embarrassing tales between all the members. His part in particular, describes almost having sex with a lady before finding out she was a trans woman. - Trevant "Tre" Hardson (Slimkid3), Romye Robinson (Bootie Brown), and Emandu Rashaan Wilcox (Imani) met as dancers; their main ambition from the late '80s until 1990. During that time, Imani and Slimkid3 were in a group called "As Is", before performing in a different group, "Play Brothers". At the same time Bootie Brown was a backup dancer for Fatlip. - Before settling on the name "The Pharcyde", they considered two other names; "The Rappers" and "True Jigaboo". The latter serving as inspiration for the famous interlude, "Jigaboo Time".
Wait wait wait wait.... this video was directed by SPIKE JONZE?!? I never knew that one of my favorite songs of all time had its music video directed by one of my favorite directors of all time. His movie "HER" never fails to make me cry even after 10 viewings. I'll make sure to watch the documentary. Thank you so much for these facts, just had a newfound love for Fatlip and his music!
