I'd personally have Nonu at #1 although I was too young to see Horan play. Nonu's all-round game was outstanding though, great passer, tactical kicker, powerful, running game, big tackles. He literally had it all
Horan was the Cornerstone in that great Wallaby Backline era with his partner in crime, Jason Little. Awesome on both Defense and Attack. Ma'a Nonu will still be #1 on my list, but Horan clearly gives the ROCK (Ma'a) a good run for #1 👍
From a different era but do not forget Graeme Thorne (All Black) - there is some (but not much) footage of him playing against the Springboks in 1970 - dynamic. Also, not to be dismissed Danie Gerber played inside centre for the Boks a decade or so later. Another forgotten master Mike Gibson of Ireland.
SBW was a poster boy player with the physique and talent to play anywhere in any team but never really took it to the next level, jack of all trades master of none. Nonu had the most explosive step, imo of all time, so powerful and a joy to marvel and my pick for no 12.
Didier Codorniou, Denis Charvet, Lesley Fofana, Bill Osbourne, Walter Little, Brett Papworth, Mike Gibson, John Gainsford, Michael Du Plesis, Scott Gibbs. Scott Gibbs and Walter Little definitely ahead of Greenwood and Roberts
Yeah i'd give the #1 to Horan as well. Best i've seen in my time. 2nd between maybe Nonu and de Villiers. All great players. Sella was brilliant also. Pretty good effort.
All Black supporter here - agree with Horan as no.1, reluctantly... also need to mention his nearly flawless defence! Nonu in the latter part of his career, when he added a rapier to the broadsword, was pretty much as good.
I read some of the comments. However there is players that is special beyond time. Lomu is one. Well for me Danie Gerber was another. All the players are brilliant, but Gerber was special. he game is played a lot different now but he would have been a great in any era... It is a shame the world did not get to see his talent. A man who learned how to kick with both feet by playing with black kids on the soccer field.
Ma'a Nonu is my favourite player ever, but I have to completely agree with Tim Horan at number 1. Just a note though, Guscott played 13. He wore 12 by tradition similar to Greenwood. The most glaring omissions to me are Yannick Jauzion and Scott Gibbs. Jauzion for me is the best NH 12 of the pro era. My List: 1. Tim Horan 2. Ma'a Nonu 3. Yannick Jauzion 4. Will Greenwood 5. Jean de Villiers 6. Scott Gibbs 7. Matt Giteau 8. Sonny Bill Williams 9. Brian Lima 10. Jamie Roberts HM - Gordon D'Arcy, Frans Steyn, Aaron Mauger Current 12s who I think are unreal and trending for this list are Jonathan Danty and Samu Kerevi.
Growing up in Christchurch in the early 80's, I am a big fan of Warrick Taylor. Not as big as Nonu or SBW, but I would put him up against them for skill and defence. Sella was an outside back, not 2nd 5/8th. If we are talking centres as well, I'd put Steve Pokere in there for sure.
I appreciate the research you put into these videos, but there are issues with this one! I don't think Lima should be in there, you left out Jauzion, like you said Sella was definitely an outside center, Giteau is easily top 3...
I had Jauzion in the outside centres video, from all the footage I gathered he wore the 12 and 13 jersey roughly an equal amount. Fair enough to leave Lima out of the top 10 Who else could have made the list?
He was incredibly effective at 12 to be honest. I remember for the crusaders, the 13 Freun was scoring loads of tries but didn't make the All Black team because Sonny Bill made it so easy for him
I agree. I could never understand the fuss over Gitaeu. Never made an impression against the All Blacks. I don't mind Horan being ranked #1 though. He was an incredible player. Not really much between him and Nonu.
I'd personally have Nonu at #1 although I was too young to see Horan play. Nonu's all-round game was outstanding though, great passer, tactical kicker, powerful, running game, big tackles. He literally had it all
The best thing about Nonu is that he grew into that greatness. Horan was a hard worker and had that natural IQ, Nonu had to earn that. Both greats.
You are right but it took alot years for Nonu to get there but he did get it all in the end.
I think Nonu's shoulder defense was legendary as well. He probably wouldn't be able to get away with it nowadays
From a bok fan. Nonu was my all time favourite centre with his power and pace. Would of liked seeing him and Brian O Driscoll playing together
Horan was the Cornerstone in that great Wallaby Backline era with his partner in crime, Jason Little. Awesome on both Defense and Attack. Ma'a Nonu will still be #1 on my list, but Horan clearly gives the ROCK (Ma'a) a good run for #1 👍
Nonu and Horan the two best for sure
Was getting nervous!! So glad you had Timmy H in there 😂😂
Tana Umaga played some of his best rugby at 12, and when fit, Manu Tuilagi would get a mention...
That's a testament to Umaga's abilities. He's outstanding in 11, 12, 13 & 14.
From a different era but do not forget Graeme Thorne (All Black) - there is some (but not much) footage of him playing against the Springboks in 1970 - dynamic. DANIE NEVER PLAYED INSIDE , ALWAYS 13
As a kiwi I’m being biased but Nonu is the goat 12 for me and then De’villiers he was awesome to
Not sure how this list was compiled
I wasn't expecting that , I keep wondering if he would get a spot , I always been a big fan of Horan .
Hard choice between Horan and Nonu. Also depends who you’d have at centre imo
@@rikimackey7984 big fan of both
Nonu, Jaime Roberts, de Villiers, mike Gibson, Tim horan. All excellent. Sella was a centre not a 2nd five. Different positions
Papworth injured too soon..😢
Not Greenwood. World Cup winner and genuine world class operator.
@@billbonnington7916 pffft Jonah Lomu’s doormat
🤣..👍 My top Vlll 2nd 5's, 1 Ma'a Nonu, 2 Tim Horan, 3 Jauzion, 4 Jean DeVillers, 5 Matt Geatau=Jeremy Guscott, 6 Jamie Roberts, 7 Gavin Henson, 8 Gordan Darcy..💯
Yeah i'd give the #1 to Horan as well. Best i've seen in my time. 2nd between maybe Nonu and de Villiers. All great players. Sella was brilliant also.
Pretty good effort.
Jean de Villiers, Springboks deserve a place I think.
He was #4

When you look up 'mercurial' in the dictionary and there's just a picture of Jerry Guscott
Agree with 1 and 2 but Walter Little could easily have been as high up as 3 or 4 as I remember him getting the better of Horan from time to time.
I think Danie Gerber would have been one of the all time great centres, but his heyday was during South Africa's sporting isolation.
He was primarily a 13, not an inside centre.
Mike Gibson of Ireland? Or was he an outside centre?
Jim Renwick

Good list
I thought nonu would be number one.But I don't know much about horan because, he's older than my dad though😅
I'd liked a mention to Felipe Contepomi .
Tim Horan. The end.
Guscott played OUTSIDE centre… What about Frank Bunce & Walter Little?
Danie Gerber ought to be in any list of this nature.
Ai yai yai!! How's it possible that Jean De Villiers and Jaque Fourie not in both videos!!?? WHYYY!!??
DeVillers is in this video 4:15
Fourie is in this video th-cam.com/video/17Mxzn0zCms/w-d-xo.html
@@RelentlessRugby my apologies. I guess I didn't check properly.
How can you not have Scott Gibbs, Guscott and Sella both outside centres
Nonu and JDV ❤
Nonu💪
Nonu #1
No Tana Umaga??
Nonu the best!
No way SBW should be on the list.
Nonu is what happens when you give a flanker the passing and flair of a full back… just sheer no nonsense destruction
I appreciate the research you put into these videos, but there are issues with this one!

@@thomas_corbet yeah that's fair
Jauzion played a lot as 13 with Fritz as 12 in Toulouse
Where is Scott Gibbs? Hard to believe SBW is here and he’s not
Nonu the 🐐 at 12🤙🤙😎
Gordon d'arcy??
Scott Gibbs.
Sella?
What no Scott Gibbs , Brian O Driscoll , Hadley parks .
Danie Gerber????
Mike Gibson
Respect to Horan but there’s nobody above Nonu in my opinion.
Danie Gerber
What about Brian O Driscule
O' Driscoll was an outside center.
Mike Gibson best ever surely !
Wesley fofana was much better Than sole of your choices…
Such a talented and underates player
Jean over Sonny is mad
You missed Jordie barrett
Honerable mention has to go to BODs partner in crime Gordon Darcey.
Elton Flatley
I think nonu is the best he played in a much harder time then horan did also devillers would be second
Michael du Plessis
Bruce Robertson
Outside centre
Was a 13
Bill Osbourne his midfield partner is worthy
Nah, Sella was definitely an outside center. If he ever appeared at 2nd five, it would be a rarity and IMO wouldn't qualify him for this list.
sonny was was average good league player thou
SBW massively over hyped in many ways
Have to agree that SBW was very entertaining but definitely doesn't belong on the list. Maybe top 15 or 20 yes
He was incredibly effective at 12 to be honest. I remember for the crusaders, the 13 Freun was scoring loads of tries but didn't make the All Black team because Sonny Bill made it so easy for him
I know who i am :P
Scott Gibbs over Roberts for me
Horan over Nonu? Lol
Any top 10 which doesn't have Danie Gerber at 1 or 2 is a bit lame to be honest.
billbonnington7916. Gerber, incredible player that he was, was an outside center.
Love SBW but he doesn't belong on this list - better ABs than him
Roberts isn't better than SBW....
Anti all black videos do you know justice lol maa nonu is by far the best 12 ever horans stats do not even come close
Matt Giteau???🤦🏼♂️🤷🏽♂️🤔how can he be ahead of Guscott let alone make this list. He’s overrated 👍🏼👍🏼
