First time trying lowenbrau on the perfect draft and this review certainly helped ease my worries it tasted phenomenal and delicious very smooth, however compared to other German beers which produced a head and more carbonated feel, I was worried my lowenbrau keg was under pressured and slightly flat so was second guessing my machine. However having watched this review it appears to be the slight smoothness of the lowenbrau itself and losing its head as yours did too eased my worries of pressure issues with my PD. Much prefer this to beers which are much more carbonated heavy and by the sounds of it I need to give the paulaner a try based on your review.
Awesome review, I don't drink any longer but enjoyed Löwenbräu back in the 80's. I still remember it's thick delicious full bodied flavor. I also liked St Pauli Girl. I always preferred a stinky beer. It must be my German geenes. Looking forward to perhaps trying the Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier Cheers
Great series of 2023 Oktoberfest bier videos. Really looking forward to the upcoming Augustiner 6.0% Oktoberfestbier video. We can't get much Augustiner here in the Los Angeles/US (only get Edelstoff and Maximator). Can't get Lowenbrau Oktoberfestbier and Spaten Oktoberfestbier (but we get Marzen) either. So I am living vicariously through your videos. I am surprised Hacker Pschoff only releases a Marzen and not the Oktoberfestbier they serve in their tent. Not sure why. Our loss.
Ah thank you! Yes only getting the Marzen is a bit odd, would be nice to be able to compare them like-for-like! The Augustiner review will be out in the next week! Will either be Tuesday or Friday. Cheers!
I go to Oktoberfest every year and last year all of the group thought Lowenbrau was the winner. We all absolutely loved it. However we didn't enter a Paulaner tent. Going back in a few days. Great reviews and really enjoyed watching. Looking forward to the Augustiner.
I'm very jealous, I need to organise an adventure to the real deal soon! And thank you, really appreciate the feedback. Augustiner review will be out Friday! Cheers!
Did you try the other Hacker Pschorr yet? I think that dead pop when you opened it was that it was compromised. I've just opened one, it was like opening Champagne and had a huge head with good retention.
@@TheCrumbyBeard yeah very inconsistent, I had a dead pop one as well and it was pretty rough. I dropped a note to Beers of Europe but not heard anything
@@giggsy42 I had a case of swing top KellerPills beers earlier this year and there was certainly some variance but they were also bottle conditioned and from a much smaller German brewery. Very surprised these seem to be significantly worse but seems to be the case!
This was the one I was looking forward to seeing you review! I am glad you have reviewed all of them and appreciate the time and effort for these videos! Great series and looking forward to the final video! EDIT: to add I want to get this beer as have a Paulaner in the fridge at home and think I would prefer this!
Ah cheers pal! For some reason many don’t seem to rate this in comparison to many of the others but my bottle was almost faultless. This is much fresher and less sweet than the Paulaner so might be right up your street. Cheers!
Aroma is clean, smells malty land bready. In taste like a stronger lager, completely without caramel notes etc. Boring but not tiring either, goes in smoothly
For me the hofbrau is the best this year although i haven't tried this one.i got a case of the paulaner and the honey taste just isnt for me..look forward to trying this one👍
That's absolutely fair - the sweet honey notes on the Paulaner certainly won't be for everyone, but for me it just made it the slightly more special beer. I think there's every chance I could've ranked the Hofbrau the highest, but from what others have said it just seems to be really really inconsistent this year, and mine wasn't one of the better ones. Cheers!
I really enjoyed this , and the first beer I’ve ever had , where I actually picked up some spice . 😋. A lovely one for me . I’m struggling to find a winner , however the Paulaner is still just in front . Need to have them all again , back to back 😅. Great review. 👌🏻
So far Spaten for me, waiting on Pauliner, Augustiner and Hacker coming this week. Lowenbrau for me is my least fav probably the same last year. Really liked Giesinger, got Ayinger festmarzen to try, love Ayinger normally.
Oh interesting - I really found Spaten very washed out. From others I've spoke to I'm not seeing much agreement on which the best is, and seeing a lot of brands being quite inconsistent this year bottle-to-bottle so it's an interesting one. Hoping my other bottle of Spaten really shines through. Cheers!
That surprises me as Lowenbrau is owned by ABInbev - I guess they don't see a big enough market for import. Bass is nearly gone from the UK too - you can get it in the local pubs near the brewery and it pops up now and again elsewhere but not super common.
@@TheCrumbyBeard My uncles celebrated holidays with Lowenbrau. Decades later I discovered it was long gone. My go to beer was always Bass. If I had known it was to be discontinued I would’ve stocked up at least to soften the loss. These companies could make a fortune with a relaunch. I’ve spent some time in England and always enjoyed Abbot Ale by Greene King. Once in a while I find Bodingtons Pale Ale here in Hawaii, but have had several 4-packs that were completely flat despite the charging ball inside. The company did refund those honorably, despite the lingering bad taste and disappointment. Modelo Negro is about it these days around here.
Hacker-Pschorr is in the lead for me at the moment at the halfway stage.
I think my bottle was a dud from what others have said. In general I’d prefer a Marzen anyway so was very disappointing sadly!

I haven’t yet but possibly tomorrow! So that seems like another of the big six with some inconsistencies this year! Very strange!

Perfect draft?
I don’t have one sadly but from what I’ve heard many really rare it on the PD this year!
This was top quality on the PD machine but I defo felt it the next day after 4/5 pints of it 😂
@@Paul_Greenwood_ I’m a bit scared to get any Oktoberfest beers on keg - they would last the night, and neither would I 🤣
@@TheCrumbyBeardhaha I get what you mean, legs like jelly going up the stairs after doing a keg in 😂
Personally the Paulaner is my no1 by a fair margin.
Same. Absolutely love it.
This year so far, I cannot disagree. It’s that good I bought a 20 box. It’s a beauty!
