Sooo impressed with the Saramonic! The achilles heel of both earliet versions of the camera was the focus noise. In quiet surroundings it annoys me no end on other people’s videos! No noise on your video, and the sound quality is way better than the build in mike.
And the price of that little mic is not too bad at all. I've just had it sitting on the shelf for over 2 years (it came with the CaMixer I made a video about here: th-cam.com/video/QIL6RGh9vKQ/w-d-xo.html )
Now with firmware update, audio level is displayed on screen when mic is plugged in. Also the AF is not as fast and reliable compared to DPAF, but I think it’s still usable. Main pros for me: image quality, relatively close focusing distance, good rolling shutter performance, built in ND, decent image stabilisation, very very quiet shutter sound, decent lowlight performance. This is a camera with a lot of good features for the price. Just have to get used to how to make the AF work for you 😅
I think I've gotten really lucky with my filming so far. Either way, hopefully Canon does a firmware update to help, but with the same sort of autofocus issues happening on the G7X II, I'd say that's unlikely...

Could be doing with higher capacity. Battery level indicator - Indicator will show full battery until 50%, so you’ve no idea where your levels are really at until it’s too low. Pop up viewfinder would be very useful, difficult to see the screen in strong daylight conditions. 4K 24p. Really. This is just a deliberate omission by Canon. Auto-focus in video mode needs a lot of work. I do love having the built-in ND filter, it’s amazing how often I use this. It’s a shame Sony haven’t included one in their more expensive RX100 MK7. Overall, though, l think the price point is fairly reasonable for the feature set. I’d pay £100 more if the above was included, and it’d be an awesome competitor to the Sony and might bring some customers back over. Just a note on USB-C, I’d expect Power Delivery compatible USB-C to USB-C chargers and supported PD cables to work, so I’m all good with that.
I was stuck between this and the Sony zv-1. I went with this for general ease of use, it seems more user friendly. I know the AF isn’t as good as the zv-1 but something about this markiii felt like a better fit.

On my camera, when I switch over to HDR video in the video settings, the frame is wider then in the other video settings, very odd, do other people have this experience? And is there a way to change that, ie. to have it be as wide in the other video settings (it's as if the video is cropped in Auto, VL and manual mode, but not in HDR mode.)
This looks to be a solid camera with great features. Price point is good and doesn't fight outside mics to override for internal. May have to pick one up. (although the over heating issue makes me a bit worried)
I’m a bit concerned about the overheating as well. Hasn’t happened to me in my testing, but after filming the section at the end of the video (5-6 minutes, after doing a bunch of short clips outside) the camera was pretty warm, so I’d bet if I tried to hit 10 minutes, it would have turned off.
Video is very good. You have explained each and every features of the camera. Here I have couple of questions. I heard you said the noise comes from the lens when shaking the camera. If it is like that, there should be little gap in between the camera body and the lens tube. Is it the defect of manufacturing or designing of the camera? The second question is, will the telescopic zoom mechanism suck dust particles and moisture when it moves back? If yes these things will definitely affect the sensor. So how we can cleanup the sensor of the camera in addition of the camera’s auto cleaning system?
Is the shutter speed stuck at 1/30 when you use the 30fps raw burst mode? Or can you use a slower shutter speed for low light? Can you change the 0.5s pre-burst to a longer duration?

This was a really good review I also have a Canon sx740hs and it is rubbish really my phone is better overall form video. I want a G7X 3 now 100% Shame I engraved my name on the sx740hs I cant sell it now. This G7X 3 doesn't even need a battery in it to work you can use a power bank or external power apparently? Video quality look great to me.

I have a nice tip for you guys. The USB-C port can be used for charging and for filming. But not at the same time. I use the charger that came with my Galaxy S20 plus. It is 3 Amps and has USB-C. I never use the Canon external charger that came with the camera. It’s also because of I’m used to that, like with my former camera the Panasonic Lumix LX15. The Lumix could not film on the power adapter, only charge the battery, probably because micro-usb does not deliver enough power. The fact that I can now use the G7X III for continuous filming is very handy and a feature that most compact cameras don’t have. Smartphones do, by the way. I have not yet tested it, but I assume that a Powerbank with USB-C and PD will work as well. Then you won’t need an extra internal battery for your camera. This battery costs 65 Euro. A powerbank for 15.000 Ah and PD delivery is even cheaper. When not filming: camera connected to the powerbank. When filming: disconnect the powerbank and always a full battery. Of course the cable must me USB-C to USB-C. You never have to open the battery compartment and all is according to the specs of Canon.
Nice video! I went with G5x Mark ii as I am a photographer needing something compact for travel. EVF and longer zoom range also deciding factors. Used during recent trip to China and photos in all lighting conditions were amazing as was bokeh. I shoot Aperture priority mostly wide open f1.8 /wide open aperture depending on zoom focal length w/auto ISO
Kinda silly that Canon released 2 cameras with really minor differences at the exact same time (G7X with mic jack, G5X with EVF and slightly longer zoom), but I suppose that allows the end user to vote with their dollars which features are more important to them. Have you tested the autofocus in video mode for the G5X? Is it as bad as the G7X has been so far?

I probably should have put some sample photos in this video, but that’s not generally my focus when looking at a camera. I took a few shots after uploading, and it’s not bad. Either way, the real reason I paid $750 for it isn’t the photo quality, it’s the 4K video, 120fps 1080p slow motion, and mic jack. If your 2008 $200 camera has any of those things, definitely send me a link! :)

It will operate on external power bank only. Battery doesn’t even have to be inside the camera. Pretty neat.

I have the Canon G7X Mark ii and it stops recording video after 30 min. Is it the same with the mark iii ?
For the 1080p modes, it shows 29:59 as the max recording time. For 4k, the max record time is 9:59, which seems ridiculously short.

do have the camera set in PAL ? its usually something to do with your country of location.

Jordan Keyes Honestly, have not used it for video yet. Photo AF is more than adequate though
Can you take a photo while recording using this camera?
I heard that you can choose whatever photo your want from your 4k recording after finishing your shooting.
