Here it is used as a main verb meaning to get, or to attain. For example, ອາຍຸເຈົ້າໄດ້ຈັກປີ How old are you? 3. ໜຶ່ງ (one) is sometimes left out of some expressions. ກິນເວລາ ຊົ່ວໂມງເຄີ່ງ It takes one and a half hours. Note the meaning difference word order makes in the following two phrases. ຊົ່ວໂມງເຄີ່ງ one and a half hours ເຄີ່ງຊົ່ວໂມງ half an hour Also note that in Lao, the verbs ກິນ (to eat) and ໃຊ້ (to use) are used when talking about activities that “take” time to accomplish.
