Before you comment, I know these songs aren’t completely forgotten, especially by hardcore fans. But they are NOT widely known by casual fans and the general music scene. The ENTIRE reason I made this video was introduce these songs to those casual fans.
In other words, don’t take the title too seriously, it’s a slightly provocative title made to make the viewer think. just watch the video.

@@stevenjohnson5197 it is true -- modern depictions of that era (50's-1964) always get the hair too long. Take MASH for example. It's set in 1953 (+/-) & Hawkeye filming in 1970 has his almost Beatle length haircut. In say, 1957 @ least in what was then "out in the stix" rural Michigan, butch haircuts were THE thing. Anything longer and they'd question one's manhood to be sure. The Beatles changed all that with their longer hairstyles, looking today laughably short, but the long hair was quite the scandal @ the time!

It was 1964. . . I was 12 & dinking around when my mom called out from the livingroom "Come out here, you gotta see this!" It was the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I couldn't decide whether to like them or not until the next morning at the schoolbus stop w/the other kids (all of whom were pretty enthusiastic about them). Ambivalence ended there. We used to play along to the records with coffee can drums & butter knives for drumsticks. BUT . . . I digress. . . Have a nice day!😊

I'm surprised you didn't mention what I think is John Lennon's greatest song before "Rubber Soul": "There's a Place." I originally hated The Beatles (I thought they were just another rock 'n' roll band, and so what?) until I heard "There's a Place." As a shy little introverted kid and the object of a lot of bullying, I responded to the whole idea of having a secret place where I could go, And when Lennon sang, "And it's my mind," he had me. Incidentally, Lennon singled out "I'll Get You" for special praise in his last cycle of interviews in 1980 because it was the first song he'd written that used the word "imagine."

On the 50th anniversary of the recording of the album Please Please Me, several musical artists recorded one song each [it;s on a TV show] and Gabrielle Aplin - a folk singer type...sang it, recording it with her guitar and a string quartet at a slower speed...suddenly it became e a beautiful ballad! it's all in the presentation of a song, not that the song is bad itself as so many moronic critics believe.

Thanks for bringing these great tunes back to mind... They might not be 'masterpieces' in the grand scheme of things, but they're sure as heck better than anything I've ever written, and I'm glad to hear them again and remember just how many excellent album tracks and B sides we had, besides all the amazing HITS!
Back in the day (60s-70s) we 'consumed' our music a little bit differently than now; we'd put on a side of an LP, and listen from start to finish, then most likely flip it over and listen to the entire other side. So we would actually HEAR these songs all the time; they just fit in to the grand scheme of things. Later, when cassette machines come out, we would start making custom playlist tapes of all our favorite songs, and eventually some of these nuggets would slip to the bottom and not get heard much anymore. Lately I've been going back to listening to full album streams, because that's how I originally listened, and also because I think that's how they were originally MEANT to be heard. But, everything works according to your own habits and needs, i'm just saying that there's value to both approaches... :)
The Beatles repertoire is like a magical toy box, and you'll never run out of finding something obscure yet great in there to pass the time with or even to blow you away and make your day!

"I'll Get You" was the USA capital album The Beatles Second Album" - those of us who live through the era and are diehard fans [of which there are millions of us] are well aware the song. It's only ignored by superficial fans with selective hearing musical preferences fostered by corporate radio playlists...and younger people who have no clue nor give a damn because of their limited exposure to only their era's music. it is a typical behavior pattern....but the young reactors learning about these, bravo for them! .

And don't underestimate the difference between the US and GB releases. The whole sequence of the albums was distorted by what was released in the states. The Beatles did record several Motown songs in the early years and did other Motown songs in the clubs pre-Beatlemania. McCartney's song "Got To Get You Into My Life" he said was his attempt at capturing the Motown sound. I find it interesting that McCartney has said in interviews in recent years that he thought all the Motown songs sounded familiar and were in a sense formulaic. Really? He obviously didn't feel that way in the '60s. I've noticed in recent years McCartney has been taking songwriting credit for many songs that were Lennon's. This includes "In My Life", a song Lennon himself described as all his. For whatever reason McCartney seems compelled to make sure everyone knows just how important he was as a Beatle and that every Beatles song has his imprint on it. Well Lennon is no longer here so he cannot defend himself so I take McCartney's boasts with a grain of salt.

Two awesome numbers that never or very rarely get airplay and the casual 60s music fan probably has never heard. As far as your list here- definitely not songs that get the airplay or are really know outside the Beatle fandom. "I will say "It's Only Love" is one John HATED in retrospect. Who are you saying overlooked these songs, each one you picked is an ace, if anyone has been aboard from the get go these songs are as important as any. In fact, the instant and continued meteoric success can be attributed to these early songs, they didn’t have weak tunes, it was all top material. They grabbed an audience and held on to them still gaining momentum, they weren’t crushing it because they were cute, they were writing music no one had heard and what they wanted to hear. It’s the music, it was always the music, if the music is great all the other stuff becomes important too. If the music is not great, no one cares. There is no such thing as an overlooked Beatles song, you chose 7 great songs, but it’s hard not to do that. Here’s an assignment, a song that’s under appreciated, Baby you’re a rich man. Do something on it, to me it’s top 10, rarely have I seen anything on it. I don’t think I know much about it at all as I think on it, except it’s art, Lennon art.
