Fantastic, just wonderful. Boy did this program bring back k memories Thank you, I am pretty much bed ridden and can listen at night when I can't sleep. THANK YOU AGAIN
Possibly one of the best adaptations of Stoker's novel-Welles had to cut some things but the heart of the novel is still there...The diary of Jonathan Harker is perfect for the "First Person Singular" technique that caries the story, the whole cast gets into the spirit of the thing and top it all off with mood inducing music by Bernard Herrman...
Before TV we all gathered around the radio , we all herd the same thing except we all had a different visual of what are imagination saw but we all said the same thing , ( Sure Was Scary )
Cast: Orson Welles (Dr. Arthur Sewart, Count Dracula) Elizabeth Fuller (Lucy Westenra) George Coulouris (Jonathan Harker) Agnes Moorehead (Mina Harker) Martin Gabel (Dr. Van Helsing) Ray Collins (Russian Captain) Karl Swenson (Mate)
Bernard Herman composed the music?? Cool! This was a good one. I was a bit wary of Welles' rather dry delivery as Seward, especially during the narration; however, it seemed to all come together by the conclusion. Thanks for the upload. Haven't listened to this recording since 1988, when I was 10 years old, and found it on my small green radio that I sneaked into bed with me and listened to when I was a kid :)
Orson had a bit of a brusque, rushed delivery. I listened to the Mercury Theatre dramatisation of G.K. Chesterton's "The Man Who Was Thursday" where Orson played the main character. It might have been a style of his time though for people to experience immediacy and drama in such fashion through the radio waves medium.
A pity Welles had to cut the segment from the first part of the novel in which Harker encounters Dracula’s wives in the Castile, I’ve often thought Agnes Moorehead would have been a perfect choice to play Dracula’s main undead wife in the Mercury production.
"... teeth white as ivory. I thought to myself 'damn, that count Dracula sure provides better dental health care than my solicitor's firm'. I gazed upon his teeth a long time, mesmerised, until the driver feeling somewhat awkward and unease at my dropped jaw contemplating his white teeth broke the silence, 'Shall we get along, sir?' I nodded but my mind was in a constant battle of asking who his dentist was or if that would have been a cultural faux pas."
Julia Charles Poppycock, dear! A good blood circulation in the gums helps against discoloration of teeth, but that is only because the blood flow works on the roots of the teeth. Merely brushing your teeth with blood doesn't help one iota, regardless of how much countess Erzsebet Bathory swore upon and hyped the rejuvenating qualities of blood.
Julia Charles Too late, dear. Already had the pox in my house and called a pest terminator. It was strange because he had an Austrian accent and was naked and muscular, but he did have a proton gun pack to catch the pox, so I thought it was all legit. Long story short, no poxes in this house. Huzaaa!
Love the way they projected this radio broadcasting for the public. "You should be flesh of my flesh ... Blood of my blood..." 😅🩷🫶🏼💋 #GeorgeOrsonWelles is and was the best DJ. 😢 Shame

It's amazing at how mature Welles was at such a young age....
Pardon me while I fall asleep to this every evening for the past 8 months
I hope this guy sticks with it, he could really be big one day!
Thank you for uploading. This is one of my favorite OTR programs.
Welles was a magnificent actor.

I am so glad the former governor has found employment! ...Is his son working with him? I think I might have an itch...
