Michael Zarceno The crewmembers are all equally loyal to Luffy. Sanji was also prepared to take Zoro's place. I can tell you if it wasn't for the others being fainted, they would've given their lives as well. It's not just Zoro fam.
zoro is right though..he is vice captain..these are the moments to show it...he had no other way to get them through this...he didn't want them to see him surrender essentially to a foe ..its why zoro isn't a captain and luffy is...luffy would of found a way to get them through this without that much damage...zoro had to make use of himself...

The Paw Paw Fruit just gave him paws, but somewhere along the line, he noticed that they had a rebounding force which he then made into a disgustingly strong ability. Luffy turned rubber into something that let's him do an extreme version of blood doping. Even Crocodile who could have been satisfied with just having a logia took advantage of the fact that sand is a desiccant and made his ability even more horrifying and then occupied a region that complimented and augmented his strengths. I LOVE it when people look past primary effects of powers and abilities to take secondary, tertiary, and even quaternary effects as ways to make themselves even stronger.

And the Will of D(eeze nutz). We still know very little about that. Void Century, Will of D, Vega Punk, Devil Fruits. Roughly in order of how little we know to how much we know about these mysteries. There's so much going on in the background that we honestly don't know about except that "it's a thing that exists in this world" and that they're all tied together somehow.
The beam is based of Kizaru's devil fruit ability. X-drake has mentioned it in the sabody arc that the pacifista project has advanced to a state where vegapunk was able to merge Kizaru's devil fruit ability to all the pacifista's (Kuma clones) including the real Kuma. X drake knows about this because Kizaru' called him as a former rear admiral. So x-drake was a marine before becoming a pirate.

It occurs to me rewatching this, but since Luffy's rubber he probably took on a lot of hits that he could shrug off more than others, since haki isn't a factor at this point. So not only is that a lot of pain, but it's pain endured by someone for whom a physical blow causes little harm. I give a lot of props to Luffy, but Zoro has proved time and time again he is pure beast of power and endurance. I'd even say Zoro's endurance tops Luffy, though in power they're pretty equal.

Any one of them would take one for the team, literally. We saw it when they all flat out refused to hand over Luffy. They were exhausted from defeating one Shichibukai and here comes another one fresh, stronger, and isn't playing. I don't know how it would have played out if Sanji had Zoro's durability/stamina. He was barely able to stay on his feet, but he was ready to make that sacrifice. Not gonna take away from Zoro's resolve though. The increasingly rare times as One Piece progresses further along when Toei Animation does good and exceeds expectations. They seem to do best on key moments such as this. I get chills every time. "I will show you Hell." Such a calm non-boasting, simple promise. "Nothing happened." Such resolve.
