    I have SxS 16 ga that was my fathers. I can't fire steel shot in it due to the chokes being full and modified. I shoot Bismuth in it but I do miss the old days of lead, showing my age I guess.

      I am the same boat with my 16 gauge. I love that old sxs. I mostly shoot #4 bismuth, but when and where I can use lead, the 1 1/8th oz #5 load is magic for pheasants and partridges.

    Precision Reloading in Mitchell SD sells the same wad I believe already slit. Check em out

      Precision is my preferred place to get supplies. They don't carry the PT1680 or the new BP1680 those are from BPI. I wish they did carry them. They do have the B&P 16 gauge steel wads but I haven't gotten any of them to test yet. Thanks for watching.

    What was load number for this load i havent seen it an any of the new manuals but this load is great and pattern so well in my browning belgium sweet six

    • @okshotgun
      @okshotgun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Load # 60123-1099L It is in the 15th edition Status of Steel. I believe it is a discontinued load since the PT1680 is no longer being produced. The new BP1680 looks the same but takes different data they say. You'll have to contact Ballistic Products to see if they have new data for the new version of the wad.

    I’m NOT a Shotshell reloader YET. I do handload Rifle and Pistol ammo. But my question is, what would happen if you did NOT cup petals on the wad? Is this a MUST or a recommendation and why if so?

    • @okshotgun
      @okshotgun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never have shot a wad that didn’t have the petals cut in them. BPI says it will leave the barrel like a slug. I do know if I cut the petals more shallow, and fewer of them, that my patterns tighten up.

      @outdoorswithroostercurrie6984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@okshotgun A tighter more consistent pattern might not be a bad thing. Especially if you use a more open choke like an IC / or Skeet choke on close decoying Ducks or shooting WoodDucks in the Timber. Could you do a Pattern testing video so we could see the difference between the two???

    What's that between your powder bottle and the charge bar?

    • @okshotgun
      @okshotgun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a powder baffle. You can get them from Ballistic Products, Cabelas, Bass Pro etc. It keeps the powder flowing smooth for consistent charges.

      Use bismuth or something heavier than steel. Also a company called Nice Shot makes a specialty heavy nontoxic in large sizes.

    What is your recipe for a 7/8oz 16 gauge load at 1550 fps

    • @okshotgun
      @okshotgun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ballistic Products Load #50204-621R
      Cheddite Hull, Cheddite 209, Alliant Steel 27.5 grains, PT1680 wad, with 10 grains of Mix#47 Buffer.
      This is Ballistic Products Data so I do not claim any liability for it. I have shot it and it does work well.

      @@okshotgunWhich manual do you have? I have Status of Steel 21st. Only load in 16 gauge that it shows for Alliant Steel and the BP1680 wad is 7/8 oz over 25.5gr Alliant Steel for 1397fps at 11,000 psi. Not many loads for the bp1680, but lots for the csd16 wad that I don't have. According to this manual, that csd16 wad with lil gun will push that same 7/8 oz to north of 1600fps

    • @okshotgun
      @okshotgun  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelscafe2818 I have the 15th edition and the 19th edition. I also have the BPI 16 gauge manual, but I am not sure which edition. I will find out and post it here. The data I shared is for the PT1680 wad. Once I use up all of the PT1680 wads I have in my stock I will have to replace them with the BP1680. The load going 1397fps doesn't sound like a bad load. I would pattern-test it and see what it looks like. My 16's really like #5 steel all the way down to #3 steel. To me the pellet count gets pretty low with #2 and bigger. If it chokes good though it should be alright. As far as the CSD16 I do not have any experience with that wad. I know that Dave in AZ has a good blog about the differences in the wads. pipesf16.wordpress.com/16-ga-steel-shot-fit-test-pt1680-vs-csd16-in-cheddite-hull/

      I do plan on making the pattern video. I am currently enrolled in SDI and about half way through the Associates course. We are also in the middle of building a new church building in a new location. My time has been very limited to do videos, hunt, and shooting. It will come soon, I am hoping for the spring.
