    I work at toyota. the corolla was a paint test car if you can see the taped lines on the doors of various paint layers.. the one you said was possibly a venza close but it's a lexus rx. most of the cars there would be scrapped out once a spit in the body was found or equipment (I.e. robots) malfunctioning and hitting cars causing body damage. kinda cool to see where they end up! nice video

      +Bloodwake14 oh okay. I was wondering what the paint srrips were for. Ans some jink yard jist put them straight in the crusher

      yeah, thats why the fucking country is broke and in debt. 20 trillion and counting. Wasting product. Instead of completing the car and selling it for a lower price with a blemish, they throw it away.

      YES10 the problem with thatt is the potental of ripping folks off. The car shell is likely a small part of the cost of the vehicle so why take the chance?

    • @fixit4u73
      @fixit4u73 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +YES10 yeah. yeah, that's why we're in so much debt. Ignorant, greedy politicians might have just the slightest little role in it, too.....

    They were not "damaged in shipping". These are test cars for either paint or assembly.

      Note that the metal used in those years made the cars almost biodegradable (*especially if the bodies had not gotten through full paint...

    My brother does body work on vehicles,his specialty is frame repair. Those vehicles are pulled in production if they failed welding of frame pieces,so my guess is they sold them and body shops lopped off frame parts. At first I thought flood vehicles but nope,those were fresh off the factory floor. Pretty cool actually.

      Can also be pre-production / production change / equipment calibration dummies. None of those bodies have gone past paint. Anyway, none of those seem to have a VIN (Usually stamped on the firewall).

      @@gillesthibault429 Why do junkyards do that? I found a really nice green 199(8?) Isuzu Rodeo and a complete white Nissan D21 Hardbody that I wanted to buy at the LKQ in Milwaukee back in June.

    Factory rejects my guess. Bodies built out of square or what not. I know back in the day before car companies sold bodies in white to race car builders they would sell them the assembly line rejects. I remember a neighbor of mine bought a chevy factory reject from the Van Nuys plant an had a hell of a time making it square

  • @ParadoxdesignsOrg

    At 2:16 you pointed out what looked like floor storage, and I can confirm it is underfloor storage. And, It is quite spacious, as I'd estimate it is 2 to 2.5 times the size of the glove box ( Which as well is spacious on the 06-10 odyssey)

      +Mike Utoober Also, I noticed that at around the 3:45 minute mark, you were unclear on whether it was a Titan or a Frontier, and I'd like to inform you that that truck was going to be a Frontier. One easy way to tell the difference is the Frontier has rear windows that have the corner cut off at the end. Another way to tell is the relatively flat roof

    • @MikeUtoober

    I've been aware of cars/SUVs that were scrapped by the OEM after structure parts (Frame rails) were discovered to be missing welded nuts on the inside, making it impossible to continue the assembly. I have also seen mispainted cars being scrapped by the OEM (Red tinge in white paint), It's a heartbreaker.

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Alexander Harlow Some of these will be vehicles that, in assembly, have got so for out of spec. that it's uneconomical to rectify them, and some are probably vehicles that have been subjected to random quality testing, or have been used for in-house development and testing, so they will have been put through an entire "life-cycle" on a jig or the like and so aren't fit for anything other than recycling...

      Indeed, entire bodies-in-white are just primed and/or painted, scratched at a controlled depth, soaked through and pelted with saltwater and other corrosive solutions to simulate years and years of corrosive exposition.

  • @neil6212
    @neil6212 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Often times, the cost of doing a proper body repair exceeds the amount of parts and labor in the vehicle. Today, there isn't a great deal of labor invested in the body shell. Even moderately hazardous jobs such as welding, have been automated. Far less employees getting in the shower of sparks to do their task. A robot is only as good as it's program, and even they fail at times...making scrap, which is a real boon to body shops needing sections of vehicles!

      Actually the moral of the story is that modern cares, especially Japanese ones, are tested, have better QC and build quality before they even leave the factory.
