    That is a great idea to store your arbors with super glue on them and be ready to just clean up and go. You do really nice work and explain your progress and methods very well making it easy to follow along, thank you. Making a screw, you have our attention we love to make our fasteners just makes us feel so complete in a build we did that we did all that.:). Great tip on the brass pre heating thank you. Looks really nice great work.

      Thanks guys...I have a CNC lathe so making a screw is just a program run...but this series is more about making a hand made clock...so I opted for a die...

      Thanks Brian...this month I'm going to try to make a pretty cool tool for gear making...I hope you like it...but I'll be back on the clock again as soon as I finish it...bob

      Joe...I would have had this video done before Xmas...but that Eureka tool really got my attention big time...had to get back on track and finish editing...making the first Eureka part right now...squared a piece and just drafted my lines....thanks Joe I really like this Eureka project...bob

      I am looking forward to seeing video of it. All I have ever managed to find were very short clips. Would make a pretty cool mini-series. :-)
      Thank you sir for building and sharing.

    14:55 - Robert, I'm assuming the screws in the barrell cap were flathead socket hex type? Did you use a touch of locktite on each when installing or no? Thanks!

    I love turning brass. I also use superglue arbors on occasion. Nice work Robert

      Thanks...Ya I like having super glue arbors in the bag of tricks...I've used super glue to make stub arbors as well...works great!

      I got to thinking about your liking the polishing...I should have mentioned...I have zip lock bags for brass, aluminum and steel...each contains a bar of appropriate soap (polish) and a muslum wheel to be used only with that soap...I never cross polish between metals...I wish I would have mentioned that in the video.

    Once again excellent episode Robert! If you don't mind, how do you dep a beveled gear?

    • @robertt-cs8fe
      @robertt-cs8fe  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tnx Craig...I've never made a bevel gear...but I'm watching Craynerd's tower clock build and he hasn't got to it yet but expect he's going to have to make at least one bevel gear for for his clock...sorry I can't be more help.

    for those that like this content, you might want to look up the Steffen Erich Pahlow channel.
    steffen has a video of making the same part but on a much smaller scale and using a bespoke gadget.
    no spoken text just the occasional written few words.

    As others have said, excellent video. Question: on your super glue arbor, do you use an accelerator for the glue or just let it cure for an hour?

    • @robertt-cs8fe
      @robertt-cs8fe  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Al...I've heard guys let it set for as short as 10 minutes...me I like overnight...I have a box of arbors and at the end of the day I set up my arbors and prepare the CNC mill if I'm doing the cut with a hob and the CNC lathe for cyclodial gears...then I cut them the next morning...big thing I watch is the amount of glue I use...too much is not so good...nice deep grooves helps with this..the glue needs air...that has been my experience...now a stub arbor I'll use almost immediately as the tight fit between the arbor and the pinion or gear hardens the glue as the piece is being put in place...bob

    Do you make the glue arbors yourself
