Hi Tristan. First of all great video. Too bad you haven't highlighed Greece which is the biggest hidden mountain destination of all. And to hold more factual power to it, Greece consists of 80% mountains, and 20% of ALL of Europe's ultra peak mountains lies in Greece. Ultra peak mountains are mountains that rise at least 1500 meters above it's lowest surrounding point. Also called real mountain heights. Or prominence, defined by hikers and climbers to indicate how impressive a mountain actually is. For reference. Switzerland has 8 Ultra peak mountains, Spain only 4 on the entire mainland, Croatia 0, France 9, Austria 12. Greece has 19 Ultra peak mountains. You can be on a plateau in Central Asia on 2200 meters and it's as flat as the eye can see, and then on your google see a mountain saying 3800 meters. You think, Wow!! 3800 meters. You go there and then find out you are not that impressed. Why? Because the real mountain height is only 3800 -2200 = 1600 meters. Because all mountains are simply measured from sea level, even when the lowest surrounding areas may not be even remotely close to actual sea level. And the Tatra mountain example, being the few and only mountains in Poland, the highest point is 2500 meters. But it's lowest surrounding point in Poland is 800 meters. and on the other side in Slowakia 900 meters. Meaning the mountain is in reality 1600 or 1700 real meters high. In Greece however almost all mountains rise from sea level. Mount Olympus is 3000 meters. But 3000 REAL meters. It's one of the most prominent mountains Europe But Greece has 300 mountins. And many mountain regions like in Epirus, Mount Tymfi, Olympus, Smolikas, Tzoumerka, Mount Athos, Pindus mountains, Agrafa mountains, Taygetus, Lefka ori Crete, Evrytania, Aroania, Parnassus, Giona, Vardousia, Erymanthos, Rhodope mountains, Radomir on Kerkini lake rising 2000 meters above the lake and many other lakes with mountains rising like that. And so forth and so forth. I can mention island hikes like on Evia with mount Dirfi, or E4 on Crete with 5 mountain ranges rising 2500 meters straight out of the sea. With Lefka ori on top of the mountain being completely unique in the entirety of Europe looking like complete martian or moon landscapes. - And with all that said. I come to my point that it's great you name 5 underrated hiking destinations. And 100% they are worth it. I have actually done one of them. And I loved it. But while the only mountain in Poland (and ofcourse with right) of 1700 real meters has been highlighted, Greece I repeat has 300 mountains to explore up to 3000 real meters, and by lack of better awareness is still hidden. I know Greeks make an effort to not mention it and keep it hidden, but I don't. Greece also lies on 4 tectonic earthplates coming together in Greece. Being the African, European and Asian tectonic plates, and a 4th one crushed in between. This doesn't only give Greece 80% mountains, but they are very different from another due to it's incredibly complex geography. Do a small research into Greece's hiking options by international or Greek hiking websites, and you will instantly come to the conclusion Greece is a hikers paradise, a nature lovers paradise. Greece has also the longest gorge in Europe (Samaria), and the 1 of 3 deepest gorges on Earth (Vikos).
