They're never "above" them. They simply can't use them because they aren't good with them so they trash anyone that is. The same thing is in CoD. It's just toxicity and jealousy even.
Regarding Germans being upset that Americans were using shotguns, if I remember correctly the Germans were upset that their use of poisonous gas was a war crime by the allies (Ironic considering that it was the French that used it first, both sides just adopted and finetuned it to be more deadly) so they felt the need to "lash back," as I call it, and claimed that the American's use of shotguns were also a war crime. I can't remember where I read this, I'm afraid. Worst-case, it was something my History teacher in high school said when he answered a question. Best-case, I heard it from one of The Great War's videos when it was early in their series.
Remember reading also part of the complaint withdrawal of executing any Americans with shotguns was that the Americans would respond to executing any German flamethrower operators. But the use of chemical weapons was the main reason.

Hell, the time I went boating with my friends back in 2020 feels a bit like a lifetime ago cause all of our lives began picking up right after (One of us got married and moved out of state, and another was just given a position where he actually has staff under him). You'd be surprised how much can change - and feel - when it's been even two years.
Even back when BF1 was the BF game of the week, hardly did I ever see anyone rolling with the M97 Trench Sweeper variants (Besides me). Sweats were always rolling with the A10 Hunter variant.

To be fair shotguns do not take skill, point and shoot if your close range it's a kill. Hard to miss with a shotgun lol. Regardless people complaining about a gun in the game Is dumb.

I had the same realization back when the Automatico M1918 Storm was the top SMG pre-nerfing. Got mad at people hosing me down and concluded "I'll just do it too".
I never really ran into salty players while maining a shotgun, but then again, usually ignore any mic or chat while playing. I'd imagine I'd get a few words from players being longshotted with the 1900, never tired of doing that to people.
People act as if the bf1 shotguns are over-powered. They always seem to take at least to shots to kill from a 10m away, They were nothing like the snipers they were in bf3 and bf4 hitting one shots from 20m away.
What's funny is that in RL the shotgun is almost always gonna scare the hell outta the enemy and make 'em stop whatever they're doing and give up. It's a real equalizer on the actual battlefield.
My accumulated list of toxic person logic: 1. If I'm losing, the game is bad 2. A gun is too Op if I'm not the one using it 3. Not being able to soak hundreds of rounds makes the other team hackers 4. A sniper should be as powerful as a nerf gun 5. If I squeal into chat, people will care 6. I remember when I first played and I unlocked the trench gun hunter and that’s what I mainly used. Surprisingly I never got any angry messages but some people should tbag when they got the chance
On an unrelated note, that's why TF2 medic detests using shotguns but has no quarrels turning syringes into deadly projectiles fired rapidly from a modified syringe gun.
It actually takes skill to use shotties in these games. You have to know how to stay out of the line of longer distance fire and how to close distance properly. I prefer LMGs, but I do enjoy using Shotguns from time to time.
People that use the shotgun are animals that live in the muck and mire of chaos. They need to get in close to get kills. They’re a different breed I tells ya. Effective shotgunners are NOT noobs. Lol

I never have good luck with shotguns in this game. People usually end up with 1 to 3 health and kill me, or they take no damage and kill me. I am quite good with a few guns that aren’t used much though and the chat here is why I only play on official servers as the admin has kicked me for “cheating” multiple times just because I got on a good kill streak. Most people can’t stand it when someone absolutely wiped the floor with them so the scream hacker. It was the same server all 3 times too lol the admin got pissy because I kept killing him.
EA's policies for their online games prohibit "harassment" of individual players and we've had some issues before with people searching out player tags so I'd rather keep these videos light hearted and just blur out player names.

Its funny that people complain about shottys being one shot, because my main shottys i ever use are the model 10 hunter ad 1900 factory, sometimes the slug version of both, and i cant tell u how many hit markers i get with what used to be the most OP gun in the game...granted the slug is way different, but for hunter or sweeper shotguns, i still manage to get hit markers...but then again im also terrible at this game especially with shottys so i opt of other guns instead...

I was all about the slug shotguns back in Bad Company 2 but for some reason didn't use 'em much in BF1... maybe I should change that

Depends on which patch, on some patches for BF1 it was utter garbage while on others it is a death machine
