I think the whole world is a dumpster fire. South Africa, my country, and my people are the closest place of normalcy. I love this country and I work with a diverse amount of people of all races and ethnicities. What I deduced is that all my customers (I am a mechanic working from home) have one thing in common. We want to provide for our families, wife, children. Have enough for a braai and also a holiday at least once a year. I believe this country is blessed with the most beautiful people ever created. There are always bad apples everywhere, but it is the minority. We, as parents, it is our duty to educate our kids and teach them love and respect and hard work, that is why we are better.

If you are in your 40s? Forget about moving to Oz or NZ and buying a house and pay it off before you retire or die. You will rent a house for the rest of your house as the rent is cheaper than the mortgage. Once you retire you hope you made enough in superannuation. The affordable housing is usually in the rough part of town, then you couldve stayed where you were in SA in a decent area.
Good comments ! SA is a great country that is operating at a fraction of it's potential, and that can be fixed. Government needs to be reduced as far as possible, with many areas privatized under careful scrutiny. Once jobs start growing, we can tackle and massively reduce crime & corruption. Then we can rebuild the railways and fix the over-used roads. A key to success will be to eject the rotten ANC in government. The DA should refuse to have ANC deputies in DA ministries. However there are problems with drugs and mental illness just like other places in the world. Often the people who are living in tents under a bridge are serious junkies, which is a problem in itself, but it's not because of a lack of a support system. Another point was the cost of living, and I have to say this is one of the main reasons I am planning to return to South Africa in the long term. People in South Africa take their lifestyle and quality of life for granted. In South Africa, if you are even mildly successful, you get to live in a proper detached house with a garage and a back yard, in a neighbourhood, and you are probably going to be commuting less than 1 hour to get to work. This equivalent setup is almost unaffordable in major global cities like London. I count myself lucky in that I have an extremely well-paying job (probably top 1% in the UK) and yet I will probably never be able to afford the quality of life in the UK that the average middle class South African enjoys. We all know the weather in the Northern countries like the UK is terrible, and some people don't mind it, but whenever I am back down in South Africa I feel so happy to have the sun shining on my face almost every day. You can't buy good weather. Cheers for the video.
Loved your content. I have lived pretty much all over this country. We pretty much have our share of problems and so does the rest of the world. Back in 2015, I got three offers of employment, the money looked great when compared to SA salaries but when you compare to where it would be spent, the picture changed too quickly for me. I often visit other countries including the UK and yes, they lovely but not home. One of my brothers is in NZ and he really loves it there. I have my sister in UK for over seven years, she wishes to come back. As for me, I am staying home
It always fascinates me how certain people can up and go and be welcomed in other countries while others have to make it work where they are, if it goes tits up then you just have to adjust and deal with it!
The sad part is that many people in Canada, the UK and Australia who live on the streets, do have jobs. But accommodation and rental has become so expensive, that even working couples cannot afford rental or purchase. I'm 69, South African. I went on an extended tour of Europe and the UK in the early 1980's. I was super-impressed, then the ZAR equaled the USD, and that made things affordable. But that was 40 years ago! I don't think we have the same Europe today!
I'm 45. I've been born here, I will die here. I have no intention of leaving. I've always said: If you're going to run away from the problems, you're going to run out of places to run to, and it seems almost prophetic now.
The grass isn't greener; it's just different challenges... Being South African means being loyal to our country. Fair-weather citizens are letting us down.
I moved to New Zealand 8 years ago and love it here. The crime rate is very low with maybe 50 murders a year compared to almost 50 a day in South Africa. There is much more freedom here and I can go and walk wherever I want and not be afraid that someone wants to rob or harm me. All the roads are in good condition and the government is actually doing a good job, everything just works. The people here are lovely. South Africa is the country of rape and murder, and many people want to stay oblivious and ignorant about it. The downside in NZ is that property is expensive, but salaries are good enough for people to afford a house. The grass is greener where I live now, literally and figuratively.
I left SA when I was 25 as I saw no future for me - I was openly prejudiced against in the job market because of my skin colour, I’m now 45, skilled qualified professional, with a family living in the UK, very happy, great community, will never return to SA, best decision I ever made. I salute the optimism, but let’s be realistic people
Amazing how people always think it is easier for someone else or the grass is greener on the other side. Everyone is facing something no matter how poor or rich they are, its all about being decent and has nothing to do with your wealth or privilege. If you don't sort yourself out and do something for yourself you will always feel others are more privileged than you. It's always easy to blame others others for your lack of ambition.
@@rupertmcnaughtdavis3649 I am commenting as a South African , The whole world needs to stop worrying about colour and wake up. We are being divided by the people in power so they can enrich themselves. It is time to stand together and stop the nonsense.
South Africans can be pretty naive, they generally think that anywhere is better than her and want to leave at any cost, you are spot on about the salaries, they have no idea about the cost of living in Europe, US, NZ or Aus. I see many retuning or planing to return, SA is amazing.
One must just find a way to overcome one's situation...I will probably find it hard to adapt,if I have to move out of Cape Town / Western Cape, but it will be a separate problem, to overcome 😅
Africa,is God,very spiritual,if we're born here, don't run away from something so beautiful,God love this planet, that's why He chose it for us in many ways, even if we are born in different countries, but if you are born in Africa or South Africa,etc.., it's a blessing..!!
I left South Africa 25 years ago when I was 19 for NZ. I think overall my life is better than if I had stayed in SA. Things like education, infrastructure, healthcare, travel etc are easy. Housing, entertainment and food very expensive compared to SA. I have never had to worry about unemployment or my kids getting work. I don’t have to worry about politics or if I can apply for a job based on my skin colour.
When I went back to France in 1996 I got a job with the equivalent of R30 000.00 per month. Here it was a hell of a lot of money. When I spoke to my friend in France he laughed at me and broke it down with me. 50% tax was the first thing. It turned out after everything that if I gave up eating, I would be able to survive.
I left 24 years ago, I never looked back. But I had to change my profession, relearn to live differently. It was hard, at first, but it got better. Now I am successful in a modern country and happy with my decision. Had I stayed in SA I would have been homeless by now I'm sure!
I was born and bred in Europe, had a well paid job in Europe. Came to SA in 1998, never loiked back. It was not easy to settle in SA, but it was worth it. The grass is not greener, it tastes better in SA.
I'm a South African, was in Cape Town from 1987-1994, and thereafter lived in Australia, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and now in Saudi Arabia. South Africa is still the best country to live in, if only apartheid could return it would be the best country.
@@TwentythreeRGT that’s why RSA stagnated since 1990. Anything blacks touch, it wilts. like SAA and Springboks. RSA will only be great again by sidelining the blacks

Arrived here in 1978 at the age of 22 from Switzerland, planned to stay for one or two years. Well, I am still here , married to an SA Girl, raised a wonderful Boy to be a Vet now living in OZ. As for me, i will stay here to the End, love SA.
I've just come back from Communist Britian and it's basically a sh#thole. Our food is better even our politicians look better and our weather us the best. Just have to work out how to survive here. Love SA❤
I don't want to sound negative, but the only main problem we have is crime. If the police and justice can work on that, then their is the issue of work. We got a lot of undocumented foreigners working but fewer South Africans working these are the main issues i would say. Otherwise South Africa is a great place to live in.
Thailand is better. It has a south African vibe, including weather. It is more modern. Less crime. The biggest positive is the nightlife. These people love to celebrate, especially due to the massive influx of tourists and expats.
South Africa is the best country in the world. Braai's, biltong, Ouma rusks, rooibos, aloes in winter, South African slang that everybody understands, the Bokkie, our National Anthem. And I would need a lot more spac to list all the wonderful things. My country, my people.... P.S. I'm a state pensioner that struggles every day to survive, not blind to the problems, but the devil you know. The grass is only greener on the other side because of all the BS. No, thanks, los my uit, I'm where I'm supposed to be.
I worked in the UK for 20 years, never applied for a passport, always knew I was coming home. Any real South African cannot say they enjoy the UK better than SA...for a while yes but you will always have a huge piece of your life missing. Plus the people are not nice.
1 correction, For the 1st time since I arrived in cpt, 8 years ago, we had 0○ temperature last week. I am still staying😅 won't exchange CPT for ANY OTHER PLACE!
I think most Saffa's living abroad miss home. I miss my son who lives in the UK, but he has a job with excelllent pay. In SA he got a job 2 days after he received his degree. His pay was pathetic. Companies in SA pay a pittance because if you don't like it, there are many more unemployed who will accept the slave labour!
Saying "don't tell me there is no crime overseas" is like saying "don't tell me it never rains in south africa" to a south african who compains about the weather in the UK. Yes, it does rain in SA but not anywhere to the degree in UK. The same principal applies to crime. Yes there is crime in the UK but not to the same degree as in SA. Looks at the stats. Or just talk to people in SA. They all know someone who has been involved in horrific violent crime. Not the same in the UK. One of the biggest reasons why people leave. There is no price on peace of mind.
I'm in IT. I got a job offer from NZ after looking for 24 hrs... yeah, it's that good for us! I had applied more out of idle curiosity then 24hrs later found myself in 3 interviews which I aced and I had a contract! The company would pay for EVERYTHING to get me to NZ including flights for my family, housing for the first few months while I settle, help getting kids into school etc etc. My salary was, well it's IT salaries! Hint: very high. So I started work and started doing the actual numbers calculayting bread, meat, rent, fuel, electricity etc... And the firs thing that stopped me in my tracks was housing. It is DAMN expensive! Not only that, NZ is trying to stop foreigners buying, so I couldn't even buy for 5 yrs! Meaning I'd be forced to rent at the ridiculous rates which in turn would suck up all my disposable income hat I'd otherwise have put into my bond or saved up for a house. Long story short, NZ is an amazing opportunity, but after doing the numbers I declined the offer (rather messily - sorry guys, should have handled that better!) and stayed in SA. Why stay? SA is not that great. Rwanda is a better place right now, then Kenya. If Zimbabwe can kick out the current government it would be even better that South Africa on many points after +-5yrs of rebuilding. Anyway, I stayed because I don't want to work for people anymore. I want to build my own biz and to do that in a new country will be harder. Better to build here, where I know my way around, get the income flowing, then go overseas and try to expand there with the safety net of a functioning business as opposed to going there with hope, a CV and a begging bowl like so many have done. Once my business is going I definitely WILL leave for NZ. It is beautiful, safe and a great place to retire... away from the toitoing, shacks and whatnot.
@@blessingmabasa9996 "negative people", i have realized, are people that tell south africans the harsh truth. and people who hate these "negative people" want to keep south africans ignorant of that truth. south africa is a mess because it is led by incompetent, corrupt, kleptocratic black people. i am black and i recognize their ilk. your comment isn't too surprising. i know your ilk too.
I’m abroad, went over for economic reasons. Making good money but words cannot describe how bad I want to be back home and leave this naf European culture.
What does race have to do with it? Become South African and get over the race thing or we will never grow as a country. Remember its what you do for your country and yourself that improves your life, stop comparing what others have or don't have.
I understand widespread criminality , I understand incompetency, I unerstand corruption , I understand barbarism. I absolutely destest all this about South Africa. I don't understand personal pronouns, I don't understand alpabet culture. Guess Im not Woke enough for the West. One is uncivilised mayhem and the other is insanity mandated.
So I look at the Olympics and I see all the gold medalists for European countries are athletes of colour, with the odd very rare European medalist. Do they still have Europeans in Europe or what?
You also need to accept the BEEE means no good work opportunities for white males. They leave for 5 years and come back and buy a house cash and continue to work remotely from SA. Fortunately for locals spending their hard earned cash here. Our government is also so dense they may even try and end that so no one benefits from their money. SA government does it's level best to chase away entrepreneurs who create jobs for others. Placing restrictions on certain race groups makes them proper elsewhere without benefitting locals. All because of the first job they are trying to preserve for a certain group. Entrepreneurs start there and then create businesses. But we hope the new generation realizes the short sighted ways of the old guard who are only interested in enriching themselves. It is a problem on the whole continent. Rather take something from someone else than create something or allow others to create jobs. But I think hatred is at the bottom of it. Hatred only destroys the hater. Wish people would realise that❤

I have my sister in UK for over seven years, she wishes to come back. As for me, I am staying home
👍 Nothing like home
It always fascinates me how certain people can up and go and be welcomed in other countries while others have to make it work where they are, if it goes tits up then you just have to adjust and deal with it!
It's the way of the world I suppose.
Yep does not look like it at all
I'm 45. I've been born here, I will die here. I have no intention of leaving. I've always said: If you're going to run away from the problems, you're going to run out of places to run to, and it seems almost prophetic now.
Well said.
I salute the part were you say we should start working together.
Thank you
The grass isn't greener; it's just different challenges... Being South African means being loyal to our country. Fair-weather citizens are letting us down.
Most of the world has its issues so yes different challenges.
South Africa is the Garden of Eden
It is Home

Cool
I see a lot of positive comments about NZ so I would presume they are doing something good there. It takes people to make it better.
I left SA when I was 25 as I saw no future for me - I was openly prejudiced against in the job market because of my skin colour, I’m now 45, skilled qualified professional, with a family living in the UK, very happy, great community, will never return to SA, best decision I ever made. I salute the optimism, but let’s be realistic people
Sounds fair, if you find a good place that you fit into it always works. Thanks for sharing.
I've spent quite a few years in Europe and each place has its cons but SA has the friendliest people and best weather in the world
This is true
The only time privilege is apparent is when you no longer have it, life is generally easier for descendants of cecil and jan in RSA
Very shortsighted understanding. Expand your view and knowledge to grasp the bigger picture
As a Whitey, you do have a point ,I must admit.
@@rupertmcnaughtdavis3649 I am commenting as a South African , The whole world needs to stop worrying about colour and wake up. We are being divided by the people in power so they can enrich themselves. It is time to stand together and stop the nonsense.
Those houses you claimed to be in England, are actually located in Asia.
Houses I claimed to be in England? Perhaps some broll or something I am not even going to check, lets not get technical about it hahaha
South Africans can be pretty naive, they generally think that anywhere is better than her and want to leave at any cost, you are spot on about the salaries, they have no idea about the cost of living in Europe, US, NZ or Aus. I see many retuning or planing to return, SA is amazing.
So many coming home yep
South Africa may be a great to live and work at present but I wonder if many are leaving because they are pessimistic about the future.
I think most are leaving because they don't feel safe and they cannot get work due to their ethnic group, this seriously needs attention in SA.
One must just find a way to overcome one's situation...I will probably find it hard to adapt,if I have to move out of Cape Town / Western Cape, but it will be a separate problem, to overcome 😅
Don't think I could leave now rather stay
Africa,is God,very spiritual,if we're born here, don't run away from something so beautiful,God love this planet, that's why He chose it for us in many ways, even if we are born in different countries, but if you are born in Africa or South Africa,etc.., it's a blessing..!!
We are blessed
If you not legally South African you can't just call this home
You must apply like any if you qualify
I am sure everyone here is South African
Great Economic Sentiment! 👍
Yes indeed!
Very informative thank u
My pleasure
I left South Africa 25 years ago when I was 19 for NZ. I think overall my life is better than if I had stayed in SA. Things like education, infrastructure, healthcare, travel etc are easy. Housing, entertainment and food very expensive compared to SA.
I have never had to worry about unemployment or my kids getting work. I don’t have to worry about politics or if I can apply for a job based on my skin colour.
@@toemas8 Many seem happy in NZ at the moment
When I went back to France in 1996 I got a job with the equivalent of R30 000.00 per month. Here it was a hell of a lot of money. When I spoke to my friend in France he laughed at me and broke it down with me. 50% tax was the first thing. It turned out after everything that if I gave up eating, I would be able to survive.
I think many make that mistake.
I left 24 years ago, I never looked back. But I had to change my profession, relearn to live differently. It was hard, at first, but it got better. Now I am successful in a modern country and happy with my decision. Had I stayed in SA I would have been homeless by now I'm sure!
I always maintain that the people you live amongst make the difference
I love my country 💖🙏
Yep me too
Cape town you rock well done western cape government ❤❤❤
Agree with that yep
I was born and bred in Europe, had a well paid job in Europe. Came to SA in 1998, never loiked back. It was not easy to settle in SA, but it was worth it. The grass is not greener, it tastes better in SA.
Yep SA is home!
Welcome back South Africans .come home black and white people who whent to find a better life.
SA. Needs you more.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well said I couldn't have said it better, totally agree.
I respect your optimistic view, but if opportunity comes, I'll leave in a heartbeat
I understand, I have been there in the past where I felt I had just had enough. If you move just look for a place with great people.
Need to get rid of the EFF and Unions
The extremist few are our problem
Funny you did not mention the white racist parties.
I have been in the UK for the last 5 years . I am 70 years old and will return to SA to live off a Sassa grant .
I thought the UK would look after you the SASSA pension is not very good.
Sassa equals one, maybe two, trips to the bottle store 😂
@@TwentythreeRGT There is no freedom in the UK , You have more freedom in SA , the type of freedom that people here dream of .

It sure is
I'm a South African, was in Cape Town from 1987-1994, and thereafter lived in Australia, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and now in Saudi Arabia. South Africa is still the best country to live in, if only apartheid could return it would be the best country.
I think everyone is trying to avoid apartheid from all directions and kinda move on 🤔😂
@@TwentythreeRGT that’s why RSA stagnated since 1990. Anything blacks touch, it wilts. like SAA and Springboks. RSA will only be great again by sidelining the blacks
SA is an awesome country but the social set up is not good.A few persons live very good lives palatial homes luxury german cars etc etc.Get the balance right.
That is a world wide issue, 1% of the worlds population has all the wealth.
Arrived here in 1978 at the age of 22 from Switzerland, planned to stay for one or two years. Well, I am still here , married to an SA Girl,
raised a wonderful Boy to be a Vet now living in OZ. As for me, i will stay here to the End, love SA.
Spot on
I've just come back from Communist Britian and it's basically a sh#thole.
Our food is better even our politicians look better and our weather us the best. Just have to work out how to survive here. Love SA❤
Did not realize the UK had become that bad , wow
Amen
@@TwentythreeRGT Its getting to also become a ISLAMIC STATE. In tens years Brits will be outnumbered.
I don't want to sound negative, but the only main problem we have is crime. If the police and justice can work on that, then their is the issue of work. We got a lot of undocumented foreigners working but fewer South Africans working these are the main issues i would say. Otherwise South Africa is a great place to live in.
It takes work to build a great country
I hope we will win through unity.
Lets hope so, but I think we will win in the end.
Packing your bags and going overseas is not a holiday, graft is graft
Totally
The grass is greener on the other side because they put manure on it, but that doesn't mean it's better.
👍
Thailand is better. It has a south African vibe, including weather. It is more modern. Less crime. The biggest positive is the nightlife. These people love to celebrate, especially due to the massive influx of tourists and expats.
I have heard a lot of positive about Thailand, a friend of mine visited recently.
Sawasdee Krub! Yes, Thailand is awesome. Easy to retire here. Also great healthcare and great food. Sabai Sabai.
@@JohnSmith-xx9th you said "here"?
South Africa is the best country in the world.
Braai's, biltong, Ouma rusks, rooibos, aloes in winter, South African slang that everybody understands, the Bokkie, our National Anthem. And I would need a lot more spac to list all the wonderful things. My country, my people....
P.S. I'm a state pensioner that struggles every day to survive, not blind to the problems, but the devil you know. The grass is only greener on the other side because of all the BS. No, thanks, los my uit, I'm where I'm supposed to be.
Exactly my sentiment. It is however a pity that pensioners should struggle and would like to see that rectified somehow.
I agree with you remove corruption and crime its close to paradise

Come back, guys and girls. I see things are really tough in the UK
Well said
I lived in the UK in 2002 never been happier being back home in SA❤
Don't think I would be happy anywhere else.
I worked in the UK for 20 years, never applied for a passport, always knew I was coming home. Any real South African cannot say they enjoy the UK better than SA...for a while yes but you will always have a huge piece of your life missing. Plus the people are not nice.
Getting along with people from a different country is not easy.
The grass is not greener

1 correction, For the 1st time since I arrived in cpt, 8 years ago, we had 0○ temperature last week. I am still staying😅 won't exchange CPT for ANY OTHER PLACE!
Coldest I have experienced in 10 years yep
Good advice.

Most of my friends who left miss home terribly.
If you extrapolate the present situation in SA you will see why people are leaving.
While the reasons are obvious we have a choice to either try and fix it or just let it go.
The people who are staying are bad at maths and stats!
This is the land of the free.
It is probably the only one at the moment.
Crime seems to be the biggest reason people move
Hope it all works out, I see many people are heading for NZ now.
Eix. Can't you move now and try that side 🙆🏽♀️ We genuinely don't need negative people in this country. We want them in NZ.

South Africa is an amazing country if you're white, it really is.
SA does not have a woke problem they have other issues to overcome before it can even consider worrying about woke.
So I look at the Olympics and I see all the gold medalists for European countries are athletes of colour, with the odd very rare European medalist.
Do they still have Europeans in Europe or what?
No Idea , But everyone who is born in Europe is European. Everyone who is born in AFRICA is African.
😂😂😂
Home is home no matter white or black lets all stand together and fight racism and corruption in our beautiful South Africa❤❤ ❤❤
Well Said
Guess you have never been to Thailand or NZ
Nope
Wish people would realise that❤
Well said , it is always the few that cause pain for all the rest of us.
