They are friends. The song "I wish you would" in 1989, Taylor said she wrote it after she and an exbf (harry of course) got to be friends after the relationship was over. She said that it was the first time she was comfortable enough to talk with the person about why everything ended. So basically they were in good terms even before 1989 was released. And they were seen a couple of times in parties with the same group of friends. But they are both so damn private 😂

I love that the water in Harry's video is coming out the piano when he plays it. He can stop the water at any time but he chooses to keep playing and by the time he stops playing its too late. The room is already filled with water.
In TS video the water is also coming from the piano and she chooses to leave, and ends up in a worse situation ( in the middle of the ocean)

Here’s a thought what if the waterfall from Taylor’s piano is falling in Harry’s room and then he starts to drown . It’s fits so perfect that at 2:26 when Harry started singing Taylor looked down as if she could hear him singing(or crying for help) . So maybe she goes to save him but she doesn’t find him and they both start to drown. Taylor tries to live , but Harry excepts his defeat and is ready to die . But fate saves them both . Taylor comes back home and because she couldn’t find Harry she think her friend didn’t make it . And the sweater is the only thing that reminds her of him .So she wears it as a tribute to him . Wow now that’s a beautiful story. I would love to see a short film like this....
I had this thought also! I also think it’s important to note that Taylor’s water is spilling away from her, a waterfall. Whereas Harry’s is pouring out from the piano around him and becoming all consuming. Then when she goes into the piano bench she is close to drowning also…a symbol for not being able to go back to harry.

Around 2:29 Harry says "I get a feeling that you'd never need me again" and she looks down and follows where the voice is coming from. Which might mean that she do need him. She ends up inside water while Harry is already submerged under water. While she struggles to save herself, he lays there as if expecting her complains and his mistakes. She suddenly finds some balance and save herself. On the other hand Harry stays sitting on the floor while water fill up his room. In the end, Taylor goes back to her room hoping he'd come back to her but he doesn't. Then Taylor looks at the cardigan which could be there token of love and realises that they'd never be together ever again but their memories would be safe and sound.
Note : These are just some thoughts that came to my head while watching this. I happen to love the mind of a creater of this mashup! Beautiful!

I'm not shipping Taylor and Harry, I'm shipping the characters they played on Falling MV and Cardigan MV because how powerful the connection of this two songs in terms of lyrics, context, music video and the artist who wrote it. Damn, maybe H and Tay did really had a collaboration secretly.
I kind of wonder if this is kind of her feelings after he did this song. The change the ending as if he was trying to not be Peter losing Wendy aka Taylor. She knew he would come back to her but it is too late. The memories were bittersweet. But she doesn't look back in pain, but more reminiscence. With her love for Joe she has healed and is ok with him being her past, but acknowledging his missing her and not being over her. I could be wrong but just some of the impressions I got.

It already made sense. James in "Betty" just puts a bunch of excuses on why he cheated and says that he is just 17 and doesn't know anything, he is immature, while Betty in "Cardigan" shows growth and maturity from the experience and says that she knew everything when she was young. This parallels to Peter pan when Peter decides to not grow up and stay in Neverland while Wendy decides to go back to earth and grow, therefore he loses her for not wanting to grow up, just like James lost Betty.
Nice theory! but I just meant Peter loosing Wendy in the sense of the music video, Taylor looks like Wendy coming back from Neverland - the dust and all, both belong in this magical music world, and Harry looking like Peter Pan in the context of the imagery - but in reality he really ended up loosing Taylor.

I am not saying the song is about Harry styles, all these small-small things are details that she picked up from her past relations. Also, her whole album is a reflection on personal stories that also in together make up a fictional story. So, James, the daughters name is just that one string that reflects so many aspect in her life. It’s like no. 13. It has multiple significance.
I have so many theories that I feel are not just random details like in song Betty, James telling his as 17 was the same age of Harry when they first went out. There are other lyrics where there is a reflection from I knew you were trouble song.

I like how this seems similar because it's a post break up song and they are bith playing piano. One is a piano waterfall, representing letting go of a past ex, and the other is pouring water in the room, represent the guilt the other feels for knowing they've hurt their past lover. It just works so well!
