KingBubbaHD Chicago Typewriter is what the Mafia called the gun back in the 1920s ya know Al Capone and people like that were the ones that named it that
The detail on Day of Infamy is great, I've never seen any other video game where the character actually checks the weapon to see if it's empty or just jammed, and then reloads, well done
“Part sinner, part saint. Known by a hundred names, an incredible gun that spits unbelievable tales. But the most amazing thing is... is that they’re all true.”
Wow Mafia had a surprising amount of reloading animation and sound effects for it's time, with the drum moving and falling to the ground and actually make a sound effect of it hitting the floor and surprisingly the reloading was pretty accurate as well
COD1 has one of the best sound design ive ever experienced...every time i play it..it looks like i am in a real war...there bullets flying everywhere and every directions..people screaming ...and the best thompson sound...
Surprisingly, Payday 2 nailed it the most. I was able to listen to the real thing live and record it, the game catches the characteristics of the mechanics while firing the best. Also, it's the one that definitely was mixed the best. Interesting side-note: The thompson operated from an open bolt, meaning in real life the following happens: When pulling the trigger, the first thing that happens is that the bolt snaps forward, catches a bullet from the magazine while doing so and finally fires it off with an integrated firing pin. As a result, you don't immediately hear the shot but rather the noise of the bolt snapping forward - very short, but very noticable and characteristic. Modern examples for weapons that fire from an open bolt are the M249 SAW, the M240GMG and the russian PK.
2:20 What kind of rounds coming out of that Thompson? Oh Lord!!! By the way, the real sound is of the M1A1 Thompson is at 6:18 "Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30"
Darkest Hour!? How could you not include that! I always found Brothers in Arms to be particularly satisfying with the loud crack. It really felt like you were dealing some hard hits.
0:10 for some reason they thought that the bolt remains back for you when you run out of ammo, which is not true, you have to pull the bolt back before firing again when you fully unload your magazine
The Thompson also appeared in Wolfenstein: The New Order (known as the SMG) and Bendy and the Ink Machine Chapter 3 (A More Cartoony version of the Chicago m1928 with the barrel magazine)
question for those who have gun knowledge: why is it that in some games (codww2, days of infamy) the player character doesnt pull back the the little nub after emptying a magazine, and other times they do?
There's a long answer to that question but essentially it's the bolt and has to be locked back in order to fire the weapon. As to why I don't know cod isn't known for accurate weapons
It's an open bolt weapon so you don't need to rack the handle every time, compared to a closed bolt weapon. Now, some games don't care about realism, but rather the aesthetics. Even the MP5 is known for the HK slap, yet some games omits it by using a traditional bolt pull.
DeployableMuffin irl you don't have to pull back the charging handle since M1A1 and others Thompson model use blow back system which mean the charging handle will still locked back even after finish off entire mag. The time that you only required to pull it back is when you want to use the gun for first time or when the mag is empty you still press the trigger then the bolt will come foward and not locked back
welp, looks like other bf fanboys here... You're talking about BC2 and 1942, right? Welp. 1942 has bad sounds. BC2's sounds are hollywood-like and not realistic as every little fanboy say. So...(and no, I'm not hating these games. I actually like sounds in BC2, even so I haven't played it.)

There are some differences between M1 and M1928 variants of "Tommy Gun". Initial title contained "Thompson M1 SMG" and that's why I've read this comment.
Strange thing is that almost every game does it wrong. You don't need to pull the charging handle back after reloading. The thompson has a bolt catch. Only when you dry fire the gun you have to pull it back. TFBTV made a good video about that

So long story short: Handle on top = Original Prohibition Era Thompson with Blish lock. Handle on right side = Revised M1A1 WW2 Era Thompson with standard blowback operation.
