    This is honestly one of the best lessons I've ever come across on coming up with lead lines and actually putting them together in a musical way. I used to do a bit of teaching and I really need to get back to it. I can honestly say that you are an inspiration for it! You have a wonderful approach to conveying ideas.

    That hollow wooden sound you hear is me slapping my head .
    Restarting after a layoff , I had forgotten to use this lick , when I used to use it forewards, backwards , and upside down .
    Instead I'd been doing modified pentatonics , and over using the Folsom lick . Now when the Sat nite jam restarts after New Years , I'll trot it back out again .

      Hi Stan. This play-along track is from the "Real World Dobro" section of my site.
      dobrojoe.com/RWCheatin.html
      There are a handful of other tunes in the "Real World Dobro" section you can try too, and I'm going to try to add a few more. I wanted to have some realistic play-along tracks that included the vocal, and Real World Dobro was born. The website operates by donation, so you can head over there and poke around without signing up or anything.
      Hope that helps!

      Hi Jason, these are tracks I created for my "Real World Dobro" section on my website. I wanted play-along tracks with vocals, but space for a dobro to play fills, pads, chops, and a solo somewhere, so I had a couple singers come over and record! "Your Cheating Heart" is sung by Rachael Davis from Nashville. You can play the tracks for free on my site, here's a link for "Your Cheating Heart".

    Hi. I love your instructions...Im looking to purchase a good used dobro to begin learning. Been playing basic acoustic guitar for years and I'm a percussionist. I have a local guy selling a Regal dobro. He bought it new years ago. Says there are no markings or numbers on the dobro. He's asking $300. Is this something I should shy away from and look elsewhere ??? Thank you

    • @dobrojoeschannel7012
      @dobrojoeschannel7012  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I started on a Regal, and it worked for me! Make sure it's a square neck, the guy that's selling it might not know the difference. The playability should be fine, and you can upgrade the cone, spider, saddles and nut later if you want to improve the tone. If you want something significantly better, you'll be up around $1,000, so I think the Regal is a fine way to get started.
      Thanks for getting in touch!

      @@dobrojoeschannel7012 Thank you. Yes it's square neck for slide. Not investing big $ in an instrument if I'm not going to stick with it. So it's better to buy low at first is my thinking. Thanks

    Can any dobro, even round neck such as EPIPHONE DOBRO HOUND DOG M-14 METAL BODY NICKEL be set up to,play lap steel style, do you need to raise the bridge
    ?

    • @dobrojoeschannel7012
      @dobrojoeschannel7012  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A square neck instrument is best, but you can put an "extension nut" (about 10 bucks) on a roundneck and play it lap style. The nut slides on over the existing nut, so you don't need to modify the guitar. I would leave the bridge the same. The high tension and high action of the strings puts additional strain on the neck, and could cause warping, so don't do it to a neck you love!
