  • Hi all, I'm a PMDG tech team member and real life 737 pilot.
    Many of you have asked me to show you how I decide which routes I am flying, where I get my information from and how I actually plan my flights using simbrief.
    In this tutorial I'll give you an all in one overview of some great resources for flight planning.
    They will enable you, amongst others, to find:
    Real life schedules
    Real life callsigns
    Real life routes
    And finally I'll show you how to use simbrief to generate a flight plan that makes optimal use of all the information we gathered.
    I will also show you how to make a quick and fully automated export of the flight plan and weather files so that they are instantly available in the PMDG 737.
    In the video I advised about the fleet planning section at the end but I choose to make it a seperate video instead as it would have made this tutorial too long.
    If you like my videos please consider a small donation as it's taking a lot of time and effort to create these.

    Wow. I’ve been using these 2 programs for years to plan my flights, but apparently I was only scratching the surface. I have to say that your tutorials are completely going to change the way I fly from now on. Once again, incredible job on these videos. Thank you very much for taking the time to produce them and share your knowledge with the community.

    I absolutely love your tutorials ! I've been working in airspace management In Europe for the last decade, dipping my toe into the IFPS/Eurocontrol world, so it's really nice to see it realistically applied in MSFS :)
    I'm finally deciding to go back into the sim world with the PMDG release today, mainly thanks to your videos and the passion you put in making them. Please keep on your awesome work, and I hope everyone will have a fantastic time with the 737 ! Cheers :)

    I really wish PMDG would open up their aircraft to general simmers like myself. I'd like to simply use the world planner to plan my flight, use the asobo ATC, and have the flight plan be loaded in the plane automatically like we are able to with the asobo/stock airliners.
    The barrier to entry, as simple as the harder core simmers say, is simply too great for more relaxed players.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to say but that's not going to happen. PMDG have always build aircraft as close to real life as possible and they will not change that approach.
      I can recommend anyone to start digging into how to handle an FMC and plan flights manually. It's not all that hard once you get familiar with it and I've done detailed tutorial videos covering pretty much all you need to know.

    • @JM1701ABCD
      @JM1701ABCD ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes no financial sense to be honest. It’s not about removing realism. It’s about adding functionality to allow a wider audience to buy and fly them casually.
      Providing that option doesn’t take away any realism. It's unfortunate that when this is suggested to PMDG suggested it's met with the dismissive attitude "well it's not like real life" and "it's never going to happen."
      And as I said in my original post...casual simmers are told it's not that difficult to learn. It's about time. It's about turning on the sim, quickly planning, and quickly flying.
      My hope is that since it appears PMDG will ignore these type of gamers, who want to buy their products, that someone will make a mod that will allow easy flight planning to happen from the world map for aftermarket planes.

    When choosing my runways, I always use FR24 to see what runways are currently active IRL.
    As for SimBrief integration not being possible, that must have changed since this video was recorded. Because I just watched a clip featuring the newly released Airbus from Fenix where that integration was demonstrated. Along with many other great features

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It didn't change, Fenix runs most of their systems outside the Sim. That comes with some advantages but also disadvantages.

    Hello Emmanuel, great video. Do you have any suggestions in how to find out what are the stands that airlines normally occupy at airports? For instance, if I land my Ryanair b738 in LEMD how do I know what would be a realistic stand to park on the stands charts? Thanks!

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Flightradar24 is my go-to source to check where a real flight parked. Just take a historic version of the flight you’re simulating and zoom all the way in on the destination.

  • @yanchenye

    Very good tutorial. These third party websites that you get real route, schedule, and validation very helpful. I do also notice in many cases there are restrictions or standard use of SID/STAR and runway flow that are written in the airport briefing or noise abatement procedures that simbrief doesn't comply with. Are you aware of a quick way to check or reading the briefing and study the charts before route planning are the only option?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd normally check FR24 to see what they're currently using in real life. However that's not the ultimate solution either. Looking into the flights history on FR24 can at least tell you which runway they used in the past if that's a hint.

  • @avduarri
    @avduarri ปีที่แล้ว

    It would bee cool if you could share some knowledge about fuel calculation, fuel regulation. I find myself most of the time not knowing how much fuel to put for taxi (should I take into consideration the expected runway, or put some extra fuel for a last minute runway change and longer taxi? How do you consider taxi fuel management in Schiphol vs Stuttgart (for exemple). When to add extra fuel for holding or maybe a go around. Sometimes I feel I'm carrying to much fuel.
    When is mandatory to set an Alternate airport? Could I file an alternate airport but end up using that fuel for holding, go around in the destination instead?

    • @avduarri
      @avduarri ปีที่แล้ว

      And ending up without enough fuel to reach the alternate, or should I divert on the first place?
      Too much questions in my head! :P

    • @J95Sim
      @J95Sim ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bud, you should use an online fuel planner for this, is there not one included with MSFS? :) pretty sure for the likes of airbus you need to enter block (total) fuel in as well as zero fuel weight (think this is in your aircraft configuration tool)

  • @mancooncrest835

    Thanks a lot for those two simbrief related videos, they were really helpful. What I came across in my flights though is, that when I do my DES wind forecast automatically (like I learned FL310, FL200, FL100) the degrees and knots never match what I can find under the winds in my simbrief flight plan under DESCENT. Any idea what the problem may be?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How big is the difference? They never really match the actual winds in real life either, there's always some difference. Those descend winds in the flightplan come from the general wind forecast and are interpolated for your expected descend path. And those forecast, depending on your place in the world, are either updated every 8 or 12 hours. So don't expect 100% accuracy.

    • @mancooncrest835
      @mancooncrest835 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@A330Driver I just did another flight and checked. Simbrief under DESCENT said FL310 250/55, FL200 268/29, FL100 274/16 and the data from the forecasts uplink was FL310 249/81, FL200 254/36, FL100 275/16.

      Check the switches above the engine displays. Probably set to a manual entry rather than auto.
      You can of course use them in manual. But then you'll need to actually do that entry.
      Google for an FCOM for an exact system description.
