Might be interesting to try multiple lubricant types. 3in1, Axle grease, Silicone, Lithium, PB Blaster.........Different types of lubes that others may use. Also on Braid, Flouro, not just mono.....

i use clipper oil( high speed high temperature synthetic and cheap) and box standard blue marine grade lithium grease no rust line degradation or compromised performance. wd 40 is great for cleanup of old reels but so is clipper oil, paint thinner and lighter fluid. i pack my reels with grease, bearings and all. remember a bearing running dry on the end of your finger is no indication of greased up under load performance
I have put Wd 40 on my stuff too but I switched to Break Free clp and that is what I use and some people say that is not good for them too. We still catching fish with those reels though😎
Back in the late 70's to the med 80's, Striper guides in the Ca. Delta secrete sent to spray on their baits was WD 40. Believe me it caught big fish. Also I spray all my salt water reels with WD 40 after rinsing them off with fresh water, after every use and have been doing it for over forty years. NO PROBLEMS. As for WD 40 affecting mono, I used a reel with 20# that was setting around in my reel bag for four years that was sprayed with WD 40 and landed four Yellowtails from 25 to 40lbs. on that line. So all you skeptics SMOKE THAT!!!!!!!!

I have 2 Mitchell 300s that are both older than me and they both had wd-40 all over them. Both still work great. The people complaining about probably are the ones using Barbie rods.

How long would it take to test line w/o it being soaked in WD-40? Doesn't seem like you're really interested in providing an answer. I'll refrain from commenting further.

I use gasoline to lube my reels and if that doesn't work you can strike a Match to it and then put it out with WD40 that usually works every time

Well after a days fishing I rince my rod and reels and spray with WD-40 reels look good also hit my rod guides wipe off excess with a rag. Great vid

Another good reel oil is 3 in 1 oil it works good. I don't know if it weakens monofilament fishing line my dad used this for years.
