i really enjoy my xr250l. you can run 60 all day long. i average 73 mpg, and can go almost anywhere. its a pretty tall bike for a 250. ive topped it out at 82mph. insurance for me, full coverage is $95 a year.... your bike is in very good shape for a 93.
I had a KLX250S and a 94 XR250L. The XR250L is waaaaay more fun to ride. it's lighter, lacking some power, but just rides better off road. It feels more like a dirt bike than the KLX250S. I eventually sold the KLX250 and kept the XR250. Starting requires some practice because order of operations is important. Also, you need to adjust your valves.
@Codyp1814 to lower the rear shock, you will first loosen the two locking adjusting nuts that are on the top of the rear shock screw them up this will lower it. To lower the front you can undo the bolts that hold the two forks in place then slide them up a bit maybe 2 or 3 inches what ever you can get. don't let any air out of them unless they are to stiff for you
I noticed that compared to other videos where the engine is quieter & doesn't have a kind of knocking to it, did you later have engine problems such as valve, timing chain, main baring or piston slap.
@McMatt373 Hey it's pretty good around town like in a 35 to 45 speed limit. Highway gets a little on the high rpm but it will do it. (About 55- 60) The insurance is pretty low. It's best to contact your insurance company to get a quote though. If you want a bike that goes higher than 60 mph, go with a 600cc or bigger. Fun little bike though. Really good on dirt which is where i ride mostly.
your valves are tapping a bit.......needs adusting........05 intake, .08 exhaust. Remember to have the piston top dead center when you rotate the crank to get the "T" lined up......if piston is not up all the way, rotate it one more time to the "T" mark. Tappets should have some slight play at top dead center
CivilCycle In Idaho you can take a skills course called STAR. That's only if you're under 21. You can get you're endorsement at the age of 15. That's what I did.
@fastpathy35 Yeah it's a pretty nice bike. I'm looking to sell it soon though. It's too small for me and I want a bike with more power. And thanks....I detail it once a week :D I wish mine went 82. I have a lower tooth front sproket so I can go up trails easier but it sure does make my speed suck! I topped mine out at 65...
You must have a busted shock.....I am 5-9, and am on my tip-toes on my XR250R, and have dialed-back the shock to let her sink lower. Or, maybe I have a pair of dwarf legs?
I'm 5'11 and can just touch the ground. But I'm good with it. This bike was made for me. Im on my XR all day long when I can. It's become a natural extension to me

@AlkatraaS The L model is the factory street legal version. Also it's a lot heavier. Metal tank etc....
@Codyp1814 the xr250l is the same from 1990 to 1996
The rear suspension is actually adjustable so you can lower an inch or two if ya need it.
Hey I'm 18 and i want a commuter bike so I can strip my car, would you recommend this bike? fast enough?

The only concern would be the weight. Its kind of heavy. It's a 30 hp engine so it's not too powerful. It tops out at 85
It's light compared to a modern dual sport which usually weighs 300+ pounds.
@Alekos Mauro Oh thanks. This video is 2 years old. Might want to look at that before commenting. Plus I sold it over a year ago.
@carrysmith2008 THANKS I DIDN'T KNOW MOTORCYCLES HAD AGE REQUIREMENTS BESIDES LEGAL ONES :P
