    The KG-1000G is in my opinion the best mobile GMRS radio you can buy.. The remote-mount faceplate is priceless in a vehicle with scant space (like a Jeep).. and that speaker in the mic is also very helpful when flying down the freeway in a loud, rattle-bucket/heavily used 4x4 .

    Here in Buckeye, AZ, the only GMRS repeater that is closed to us is a private one, and has two tones. One for TX and another for RX. And since it's private, you can only get the two tones by becoming a member of that GMRS club, which I'm planning to do eventually.

    Jason thanks for finally doing the video on the KG-1000. I'm going to get one soon with a power supply to use as a GMRS base station. I like your power meter, would that take away from your transmit power? Could that of been the reason your meter only showed 45 watts on key up? Another video I saw with a smaller inline power meter showed this rig at 50 watts on transmit.

I am very new to radio (and to GMRS for that matter), but I've been using one of the local repeaters out here about 30 miles away and have already made a handful of contacts. I have one question though...every now and then I see the receive light come on when I have the channel set on the repeater channel but no noise comes out of the speaker (even when I have the volume turned up). It usually only happens for a second or two at a time. Do you have any ideas what is causing that to happen? WRKJ910

    I can tell you something I've noticed with several of the gmrs radios in reference to the output power. For the Base/mobile types you need a really good power supply and an accurate meter. The higher the voltage setting is close to between 14 and 15 volts and rated to at least 30 amps or better you will get your wattage. If you are running economy, your output will suffer. I've had at least 10 of these radios and they all seem to be weak at 12 volts and if you are at 13.8 your output will be nominal. A good antenna with an excellent low loss cable is a requirement and of course the higher your elevation the greater your distance. There are allot of other factors as well If you are looking for skip ... forget it ! My cable was the most expensive part of this system. If you want performance its going to cost, otherwise if you go cheap, don't complain . WQXK742

      Great little radio, very professional looking. If I didn't already know that it was only $110 I'd think it was a four or five hundred dollar radio. I suggest that you order the longer skinny antenna that is normally supplied with the 805G because it goes better with the looks of the radio. The supplied antenna is shorter and looks more like a VHF antenna. My two cents.

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@josebriones4990 The range on GMRS will be better than CB simply due to the legal power output of each service. As with all radios, the reception (defined as the signal you HEAR) really depends on the quality of the receiver in the radio you are using. Lesser expensive radios have poorer reception than more expensive ones, as you might suspect.
      But yes, folks monitor GMRS simplex and repeater frequencies and you can strike up conversations in the way you mentioned above.

    It would be nice if there was a GMRS radio that allowed multiple programmed channels with different tones. As I travel, I don't want to be reprogramming on the fly. Also, set a name - ex. IRON650. Not having FRS transmit is a non-starter. You should have demoed the remote control head, also.

      Multiple programmed channels with different tones is a key feature to this particular radio. Instead of using channels 23 through 30, go to 31 and replicate the frequencies for the repeater and tone specific to the area, and give it a new name.

    The reason it limits you to "monitor only" on the FRS frequencies which are limited to a half a watt is not necessary because they couldn't figure out how to lower it to half a watt, but to keep this radio in compliance. FRS channels and even GMRS/FRS hybrids that transmit on those frequencies must have FIXED antennas. Because this sweet little import radio has the ability to put an outstanding high gain external antenna, they can't let you transmission on those frs frequencies, just monitor. Midland completely eliminated them on their line. I like that this radio at least allows you to listen. Thanks for the radio review. It's always nice to know about other radio options.

    Is there any repeater coordination in GMRS ?

    What is meant when a GMRS mobile radio is listed as a "repeater"? (it is able to connect to a repeater or is it a repeater itself?) Thanx

      The KG-1000G is capable of being a repeater, but you will need two of them and an interface. One acts as a receiver, the other as the transmitter.

    WRML807. (K4BBR). I do have the KG-1000 and really like it. Very simple to use and has about as many features as you can get on a GMRS radio. My only disappointment is that GMRS is not uttilized too much I central Alabama. I got hooked on GMRS while visiting my GK's in Phoenix where is seems to be as active as 2m with many linked GMRS repeaters. I have only 2 that I can hit from Bama home but still enjoy monitoring GMRS and using the available repeaters that I can hit. I may be relocating to AZ in the next year and if so will be wearing this radio out. Love it. No regrets.

    WRMB912... Hello. I'm new to the GMRS world. I used CB Radios back in the day. I purchased the Wouxun KG-1000-G a week or so ago and just installed it. I need to program in repeaters for the Reno, NV, and surrounding area, and obviously, learn how to use the radio.

    It's indeed the best GMRS mobile radio. Hope they revise it to provide a way to dim the display. Otherwise it is perfect.
