    Maybe I shouldn't harp on it, but why switch the 4 & 5 ball colors? And if the idiots who decided to do that were trying to be creative, why not make the seven black and the eight brown, or make the one ball red and the three yellow? Why stop there, make the one ball a stripe and the nine ball solid. Or make all the balls black or green and have their number value printed all over their faces . . . I mean, that 4&5 ball color switch has no rational reason for it being done . . Period
    Edit: Btw, I wrote the above before I saw Tate shoot the five before the four, lol

      They switched the colors for TV but I hate it with a passion as well. I play 5x/week at various places with the old balls and STILL have to mentally adjust to these colors whenever I watch pro matches

    • @rogerscottcathey
      @rogerscottcathey ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well how does the switch of purple and orange positions help in broadcast clarity? The two, four, six and eight balls were often indistinguishable on low resolution color TV --- and what tv isn't color these days --- so moving the purple next to the green six meant the six had to change to pastel pea green, then the brown seven -- often confused with the purple four -- changed to robin egg shell blue, made the four pink, and they started a ridiculous domino effect, lol.

    • @51Dss
      @51Dss ปีที่แล้ว +1

      9 ball can be like that - there is absolutely more "luck" in 9 and 10 ball than there is in other disciplines like one pocket, straight pool, snooker, 3 cushion billiards. From the very start of a game of 9 ball or 10 ball the outcome has a huge element of randomness - luck. 9 ball goes in on the break or hangs in a pocket, , cue ball freezes to another ball or to a cushion unintentionally, kisses, caroms, jump shots, long combination shots...anything can happen at any moment. Take SVB getting his "golden break" - random - lucky as hell. for a moment it looked as if the 9 ball was not going to fall into the pocket - and if it did not fall in the rack would have belonged to the kid. Like I said - lots of randomness and luck in 9 ball is a thing.

We only take them out on special matches. We call them the "good balls". seeing him drop the 5 ball out of turn was the most painful thing I've experienced watching pool online. OUCH! My sister and I shoot pool. Friendly pool but 5 dollar wager per game, and one time I did exact same thing. Shot for 5 with 4 on the table. She played possum and waited for the execution and as soon as it went in she yelled "FOUL!!! AHAHA" and waltzed up to the table. Worst sportsmanship in the universe runs thru her blood, what can you do, she's younger and needs every victory. It was a terrible moment, first my blunder and then her celebration.

    I watched this match without knowing who Joey Tate was. It turns out that his dad Randy and I used to play many, many matches in Bloomington, Il at Ride the Nine. Good to know that Randy and Joey are both still involved in pool. Best wishes for them both from an old friend EdTipton.

    What a way to lose a match. Ok, we can talk about luck and so on, but the truth is that the young man made a few mistakes at some crucial moments, and that's why he lost. Some people might say that Shane not saying anything about the wrong ball is "bad sportsmanship", but again you remember this is the US Open and players should expect their opponent to take any and every chance they get.
    Besides, the way it turned out, I doubt that is a mistake he will repeat for the rest of his career.
    I doubt Joey will ever forget this match! If you're reading this Joey well done and hard luck, keep playing your game you've got a lot of talent and a lot of heart I expect that you will see great success in the future.

    I don't like the break template. The ref has to move balls just to remove it nearly every time. Plus on the break after Shane's 2nd game the announcers talk about how the template moved the cue.

      It's good for easy racking, especially on felts that can't keep the ball in place.

    He plays exactly like me but obviously better. Same style and everything it's pretty shocking. He's a lefty, same demeanor and pace, same eye over the cue which means he probably has a bad eye like me too.

      It was hard to _draw_ for the 3. He had the entire side of the table that the 3 could easily have been played for had he used follow instead of trying to draw to a precise spot.

    • @anon2414
      @anon2414 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Na 2 9 combo was the best. I just seen the video and saw what you were talking about. The 9 and the pink ball are blocking a good follow shot position play for the 3. He would have to do a straight follow shot traveling towards the corner pocket leaving a long shot for the 3. That's exactly why he chose to draw it, so the cue ball could be traveling towards the three

    • @procrastinator6902
      @procrastinator6902 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@anon2414 It looks that way at first glance due to parallax error, but 1:20:04 gives a better look at the shot from above and he certainly would have missed the pink 4 here. 2/9 may have worked out better but when you're playing one of the world's best players, shots like that are super risky unless they're all but guaranteed.

    • @anon2414
      @anon2414 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@procrastinator6902I viewed what you talked about. The angle is not there to go below the pink ball so the cue ball can go towards the 3 ball. The cue ball would have to go towards the corner pocket leaving a long shot for the 3 like I said earlier. Exactly why he shot bottom English. That's why Karl boyes said he could have went for the 2 9 combo. The shooter and commenters are thinking like me

    It's a stupid idea when the first balls were purple 4 ball and orange 5 ball, to change to pink 5 ball and switch again to pink 4 ball and purple 5 ball. If you were going to release the balls again why not just make the 4 purple again like the original and the 5 pink. I was watching and got messed up a few times by the colours.
