Good job linking John with Paul. Paul never speaks literally of a birth or a begetting, as John often does, but prefers the phrase "new creation." Peter speaks of a "regeneration by the seed of the word" and is the only place where we find that term exactly. Paul's appeals are generally corporate as well. We are IN Christ. The Church is his body and so on. Lots to say, but that's why we have a Bible!

You were right to quote 1 John 7 but you (and ALL of us) also NEED to understand verse 9 as well!! But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:7, 9 NKJV You see verse 7 says "ALL SIN," right?? What he is talking about there is all the sin we have committed up until salvation...when we walk in the Light His blood will cleanse those old sins forever!! Amen!! I love sharing God’s word with my sisters and brothers in Christ. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not (washed) from their filthiness. Proverb 30:14.

Interesting theory, young man. I have always thought, and still do, that being "born of water" is the natural birth of a human being (a mothers water breaks just before labor). This is the first birth. The Spirit birth is when you are filled with the Holy Spirit at salvation. This is being "Born Again", "which is the second birth". Love your insight.
That has also been my interpretation. But… this lesson really has me thinking. Both interpretations still point to the new birth in the Spirit. Good stuff.
We share the same thought pattern but not the filled with the Spirit part. Born of the Spirit refers to the indwelling Spirit taking up residence within the New Believer. Being filled with the Spirit is that which occurred in Acts where the Believers were filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other to tongues.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4 KJB And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Ephesians 5:18 KJB
@@scooterp7009 my favorite thing about the miracles and signs of God are that they don’t follow a set formula. While tongues was and can be a sign of the indwelling of the Spirit, the greatest sign is that the believer is filled with the peace and knowledge that they are truly saved.

The "water" is His word, the Biblical scriptures they are spirit and are life, understanding of His word is given by His Holy Spirit who is given to us at the moment of rebirth (born again) Eph.4:30 2Tim.1:14 2Cor.1:22 Rom.8:11 John 14:17 etc. 🙌🙏

I agree with what you have observed and said... because those who come to Jesus, rivers of living water will flow from his bosom.. there's a spiritual cleansing on the person being done by God by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the cleansing of the Word. But in another sense, the Gospel said repent and be baptised, said by John the Baptist, Jesus, and the apostles, and people have done this as well, so that it means there must be willingness for everyone to come to Him to repent and be baptised, a step of faith coming to the Lord so that the Lord will come to him, and so that the work of the Spirit will take effect and be done, the regeneration, cleansing of water, the purging, the transformation with a new heart and renewed mind, the rebirth of the new person.
Water baptism is not required for salvation, but it is necessary for obedience because Yeshua said to do it. Everything He said is nonnegotiable because He is Lord. The Christian life is about more than escaping God's wrath. Let's obey Him because we love Him and He's worthy, not just to escape punishment, though that is also valid.

I do wonder what people think about Peter's quote in Acts 10:47-48? Not here to argue, but understand. This directly and emphatically declares we should NOT forbid water (born of the water) and then COMMANDS us (they were gentiles) to be baptized. If baptism by water doesn't matter, why did it matter so much in this instance? Here's the scripture. My last point as I wait for responses and keep looking for real meaning as to what Jesus meant by "born of the water". I have also believed it was representing our natural birth by water, and it absolutely could be that. Yet, as I study water, and how God/Jesus reference water, I start seeing some alignment around baptism. 19 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? Very interesting study. I re-read John ch. 3 in the interlinear Greek and noticed a couple things. 1) Jesus is answering the questions of Nicodemus - a Pharisee! Nic would have been very familiar with the passages you pulled together, and many others, yet still struggled to understand Jesus' words. Jesus was so patient as He explained the work of His Spirit. 2) Reading the entire chapter, I noticed a focus on the person and deity and work of God's Son. All the way to the end of the chapter - we read the gospel several different ways, by Jesus, and then repeated by John the Baptist. The water, or baptism references, really seem to be focused on repentant hearts where the Spirit moved.
I appreciate you desire to do somthing like this. May I suggest you do a word study on the word baptize, baptized, baptism, baptizing etc.... by looking up every scripture that has those words in them. I would like to suggest you start with Mark16:15-16 where Jesus is talking about this and instructing the Apostles what to teach. After all I think you would agree we need to follow Jesus's instruction on what we teach folks. Also the second one you can look at is Acts 8:26-40. The book of Acts is full of conversions and what they taught imediately following Jesus's resurrection and ascension. And then of course all of the rest of the scriptures that have the word baptize or the variations of that word that I mentioned earlier. Always strive to dive deeper.
Being born of water is being born in the word of God, knowing the scriptures and gaining understanding of the true wisdom within the Word of God which will lead us into being born of the Spirit too. That's what I feel is what is meant here

You are 100% right!! That water is the same as having the living water flow from within, and is refering to the Holy Spirit. The water is the Spirit given to us. John 7:38-39 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet [given,] because Jesus was not yet glorified.
It’s simpler than that. The answer to What shall we do for the remission of sins. Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Once again, this is great teaching. I agree that faith precedes rebirth (whether that faith is free or predestined), because I know for certain that having faith does not mean that one is reborn. In addition to being born of water and spirit, Jesus tells us two things about being born again: 1. It’s random. 2. You can see the kingdom of God. #1 fully repudiates any possibility that it comes from a decision or action (unless you can decide to make the wind blow), and #2 is a wild, radical transformation of the mind that alters your perception of everything around you. The kingdom of God is TRULY at hand.
How do you know for certain that having faith does not mean that one is reborn? If I have faith, but must also be reborn, then how do I meet this additional requirement for salvation?
@@sarco64 That is an excellent question! There is no additional requirement. We must believe in Jesus to be saved. Belief in Jesus is the only requirement, at least according to Jesus (John 3:16). If you believe in Jesus, you are saved. Of course, if you believe in Jesus, your belief will manifest itself in actions that follow his commands. But you cannot enter into the Kingdom of God until you are born again. And there is no way to control that (again, that’s according to Jesus and his likening it to the wind). ALL saved people WILL be born again to enter the Kingdom of God, but not all saved people ARE born again. My experiences of believing in Jesus and being born again were distinct events, although they were obviously related. My experience of being born again was a radical transformation that proceeded not only without any decision on my part (exactly like the wind) but very much AGAINST my own will. It happened really and truly with me FIGHTING it, even as a believer in Christ. It happened EXACTLY like a baby. I did not even realize this until so much had happened that I finally realized I had been born again. Jesus called it being “born again” (as opposed to “awakening” or some other softer concept) for a reason. It is a shocking, painfully disorienting experience that moves you out of the dark, lightless apparently protected comfort of your previous existence and places you into an entirely new environment. That is a description of being born, and that is a description of being born again. You cross a boundary. Every believer WILL cross that boundary to enter the Kingdom of God, but not every believer has. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Being born again means you enter it now. There are many pastors out there who truly believe in Jesus, but their actions are of the world. They are saved, but they have not entered the Kingdom of God, because if they had, they would stop doing a lot (maybe even all) of what they’re doing. I am completely aware of all the objections that could be raised to what I’m describing, and it is only my testimony. But one objection that cannot be raised is that it is inconsistent with scripture. Belief = being saved. Born again = entering the Kingdom of God. There are people who might say that these two things are the same, but Jesus wasn’t one of them.
@@stephenstrager9852 Many, many people want to quote John 3:16 out of context. John 3 should be read from verse 1-22 as a unit. In a number of places, as in John 3:16, “believe” is used as a summary or a synecdoche. Synecdoche is “a figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole.” When Moses said not a “hoof” shall be left behind (Exodus 10:26), he used a synecdoche, as does a cattleman who says he has “ninety head of cattle.” Jesus used a synecdoche here in John 3:16: “whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” He permitted belief, which is only one condition of pardon, to stand for all the conditions. This does not make repentance, confession, or baptism unnecessary any more than God’s granting Gentiles “repentance to life” (Acts 11:18) makes belief unnecessary. Belief does not equal being saved. Scripture has several examples of those who believed but did not go on to salvation. John 12:42,43 is but one example. James 2:29 says "You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder!". James says that belief does not equal salvation. On the other hand, Jesus says that being born again equals entering the kingdom of Heaven which equals salvation. You cannot enter the kingdom without being saved. Jesus said that you cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven without being born again of water and the Spirit. Jesus definitely said that these two were one and the same. I don't want to discount your feelings. You feel them. That is as it is. But feelings are not what the kingdom is about. Only by the word of God can we find the true Gospel.

And before I was born again, I absolutely would have analyzed the text from a purely intellectual standpoint using terms like that. Not today. You’re wrong about so much there, but you care about Christ and that is all that matters. You will learn through experience. One thing we know for sure is that you 100% believe that salvation is totally predetermined and completely out of one’s control, since Jesus says that irrefutably and without the slightest room for variance when it comes to being born again: The wind blows where it will-he could not possibly have come up with a more precise example of something we can’t control. I’m fine with someone saying that being born again and being saved are the same thing, as long as they say that both are as out of our control as the wind. That may very well be true!

And yes, as a retired engineer, I have a fairly analytical mind. But I definitely have been born again, and try my best to be led by the Spirit. I don't base my doctrinal position on my feelings, or even my experience. The Holy Spirit is the author of all scripture, and scripture alone is my guide. I would love to have you school me (from scripture) about the much I have wrong. But if you say that salvation is completely out of our control, that makes you sound like a Calvinist. If so, we can probably find little common ground. I have to disagree with you using the wind analogy to mean we have no control over over decision to follow Christ. Jesus is describing the one born of the Spirit. Sometimes conversion comes quietly with little fanfare like a gentle breeze, and other times it makes an Earth shattering difference in a convert's life, like a tsunami. We don't know beforehand how the Spirit will come. Too many scriptures plead with us to turn to God (repent), call on His name, not to harden our hearts, etc... for any reasonable person to conclude that we have no part in our salvation. Before you jump to conclusions about what I believe, let me state, there is absolutely no meritorious work we can perform to earn any part of our salvation. It is all God's grace. I assume that we will just have to agree to disagree on the rest.

Being born of the water is clearly baptism and the spirit is when one has been filled with (Holy Spirit). Peter said “ Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall (receive) the gift of the (Holy Ghost).
So you need baptism in order to be truly saved? There are so many verses that contradict that statement and false belief that you need to be physically baptized in order to be saved. Look up acts 10: 44 and study that. And it’s be baptized “because of” the forgiveness of your sins not “in order to receive” the forgiveness of your sins.

David, only Jesus can save. Because of Jesus you can be forgiven of your sins and be reconciled back to God. Salvation is a gift from God when you believe in Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. "God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism doesn't necessarily save you but Jesus Himself was baptized. "After His baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on Him" (Matthew 3:16).

The reason it is call the baptism of repentance, NOT a baptism for repentance. Repentance is the washing/renewing of the mind/change of mind, that comes by hearing the Word of God. We are WASHED by the Word of God. Repent and be made clean/Repent and be baptized. Same thing different wording but the same meaning. A person can not receive the Holy Ghost if they are not made clean. Many time we see where people repented and then received the Holy Ghost. They were never dunked in water. They heard the Word, repented and were made clean/baptized. We also have an example where some were dunked and never received the Holy Ghost. Paul asked them about this and then shared the Word of God with them and they repented and immediately received the Holy Ghost. This baptism Jesus spoke of has nothing to do with physical water. It is repentance he was speaking of. To repent is to turn from something to another way. It is not a confession of sin.

That is why they needed to be baptized again for the remission of their sin. Without the remission of sin, none of us can be saved.

If I agree that "Water baptism is not for the remission of sins" then Peter must have also been confused when he said "Repent, and BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR THE REMISSION OF SIN". Paul was also confused when he said that God chose him as an example of how we are to be saved (1 Timothy 1:16) and then related in Acts 22:16 how he was told to "Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins". Paul still had this confusion when he told the Ephesians that their baptism of repentance (the baptism of John) was not good enough, and that they needed to be rebaptized into Christ. Even Christ was confused about the role of baptism when He said in Mark 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved". It is curious that He didn't say "Whoever believes and repents will be saved". That Christ and His Apostles were confused on this issue would be a hard (impossible) pill to swallow. Please have a read of the following: An extensive look into why “born of water” in John 3:5 is water baptism & not natural birth as some say: “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Matthew 11:11 NKJV For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” Luke 7:28 NKJV But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, Galatians 4:4 NKJV How then can man be righteous before God? Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman? Job 25:4 NKJV Here we see in both the old & new covenant & even from Jesus Himself (who said unless one is born of water & Spirit...), referring to someone born naturally as being born of women (or “out of” woman if translated more literally); not once is the term "born of water" used clearly to refer to natural birth & the term is only ever used in John 3 when talking about the new birth in context to Nicodemus's curiosity as to the supernatural power of Jesus ministry. However Nicodemus would connect the term "out of water" when talking about the new birth to baptism, because great crowds were flocking to be baptized by John the baptist & it was only after Jesus Himself came out of water (Matt 3:16) & the Spirit descended on Him that He could minister with signs & wonders, fitting the exact context of Nicodemus's curiosity as to why Jesus ministry was one of signs & wonders, God being with Him; where as Nicodemus the teacher of Israel did not have this supernatural aspect to his ministry. Jesus disciples were also baptizing many at the time so water & being immersed into it for a new, clean start would have been in everyone's knowledge at the time & also the Pharisees of whom Nicodemus was one refused John’s baptism, so it is quite a humbling & appropriate statement to make to Nicodemus that he must humble himself & be willing to be baptized to experience a new start (though baptism into Christ had not come yet but John was preparing the way)! So why did Jesus not just use the term baptized in water? Well baptized/immersed/dipped was just a verb then (“baptizó” in the Greek meaning to submerge, dip under, immerse) & it was not coined as a term for a specific event like it is now, so to say “out of water” would be just as clear as the term “baptism” is to us. Also to come out of water means one has to have been immersed into water first; which by definition is water baptism. When Nicodemus asks how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb? The emphasis of this question is not about natural birth for I can't imagine Nicodemus to be genuinely thinking an old man could go inside his mother's womb & be born that way again! The essence of his question is "I am an old man, how can I experience this new birth that you're talking about?" hence Jesus then going into more detail about how he can be born again, breaking it down into water & Spirit. Finally when Jesus says "that which is born of flesh is flesh & that which is born of spirit is spirit" He is saying the natural birth has nothing to do with the spiritual birth & so He uses the term "born of flesh" which is used elsewhere in scripture: But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Galatians 4:29 NKJV who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:13 NKJV concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, Romans 1:3 NKJV If this statement “whatever is born of flesh is flesh” referred back to the water part of “born out of water & the Spirit” then surely Jesus would use the same term! & say "whatever is born of water is flesh/fleshly". However in this statement He clearly divides born of flesh from born of Spirit, but in the statement before He puts water & Spirit together, emphasizing the fact they are two parts of the same new birth, & to support this, all through the book of Acts we see water & Spirit together & in 1 John 5:8. 'This is he who came by water and blood-Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. ' 1 John 5:6-9 ESV Flesh is also used in scripture of those trying by their own efforts or of the sinful nature which would put a different meaning altogether to “that which is born of flesh is flesh”: it would mean those who are born of flesh/into sin are fleshly/sinful people but those who are born of the Spirit are Spiritual people; enabling Nicodemus to be able to identify between the two. Jesus from this statement on, refers to the Spiritual aspect of the birth as it is the Spirit who enables signs & wonders & who changes people's character & I have already in another post discussed the reference of the next bit about the Spirit blowing, to Pentecost, which Nicodemus himself would likely have experienced as he helped take down Jesus body from the cross & so was still around & respected Jesus. Furthermore, for Jesus to tell someone who is already born naturally that they need to be born naturally to enter the Kingdom is completely unnecessary & pointless to say because everyone who reads or hears this is already born naturally, it would be a null & void statement that would add nothing helpful to the conversation & would not help Nicodemus one bit, & would probably imply to him that he does need to go back into his mother's womb & be born naturally again to enter the Kingdom of God! It is an òbvious allusion to water baptism. It is an introduction to a new way. Later through Mark 16:16, Acts 2:28, Gal 3:27, Acts 8, Romans 6, etc... we find that water baptism is the point at which sins are forgiven.
Jesus is what washes away our sin, not baptism. What about the man on the cross that Jesus said would be with him in paradise. He had no time to get baptized, it’s just belief in Jesus that cleanses our sin

At this point Christ was still alive, and the command to be baptized as a condition of salvation had not yet been given (Mark 16:16), thus not relevant to this conversation. Today, we live under the new covenant. The old covenant is no longer in effect, and we cannot be saved under its provisions. To say that I don't have to be baptized because the thief on the cross wasn't would be equivalent to me arguing that since George Washington didn’t pay federal income tax, I don’t have too either. Yes, the blood of Jesus is what washes away our sin, but scripture teaches that we contact His blood (spiritually) in the waters of baptism. I believe I was washed by water and spirit. It took both. I was singing to God in the shower, I had an experience, and I've been a different way ever since. Since it didn't happen in church there is little interest in my experience but I believe it is the way to overcome sin and our sinful world.

When it speaks of "unless one is born of water and the spirit" the water part is referring to our natural birth. The waters break then the child is born. Its talking of our natural birth and to be born again is the spiritual new birth.. God bless brother
The water is repentance. The gospels, though disjointed in sequence, are not disjointed in Spirit. Loon at Matthew saying, repent and believe the Gospel. It clearly spells out that you must repent, which is being washed of your sins, wherein John says later in his epistles, If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness, and believe, wherein the Apostle Paul states that the Spirit takes residence in our heart by faith unto the day of redemption. So it is revealed that the Spirit bears once unto cleanness, and again unto holiness. Because if we are not first cleaned, man or woman or child or not, God won't have anything to do with us, because he is a holy and Just One
Woke up one morning and had a familiar "brand", or name I couldn't quite place. Kept thinking why is this an ear bug trying too figure it out...hmm, barbasol,...no...what is a barabas? Then it hit me stupid hard. ... and in an instant I knew Jesus died for me, and I was absolutely full of exhilaration and joy! I bawled like a baby at 56. I mean ugly cried hard over His saving Grace He just filled me with. Repentance was instantaneous and man did I feel ridiculous about what I thought so much of me, it was and it was so silly! I literally had no idea what born again meant or even a new heart. And that very day I grabbed a Holy Bible and turned toward the new Testament only too find Ezekiel and my new flesh heart! Only our Living Savior Yeshua would guide a prodigal as myself. I truly try and know only His Truth, Life and Way. Keep the narrow path!
The Living Water is also another good thing to remember for when Jesus speaks of this, Jesus Christ is our salvation and the Holy Spirit comes from Him and His sacrifice and through Him comes Living Waters.

The best commentary on the Bible is the Holy Spirit commentary. John has already told us that we need no man to teach us and that the anointing abides in us. Run with it and never let it go, for it shall lead thee and guide the in all thy ways.
I taught classical Greek for 25 years in Europe. "Born of water and spirit" is not two things, but one. The Greek construction is called a hendiadys. It consists of two nouns separated by "and." The second noun becomes a superlative adjective that modifies the first noun. Christ thus said, "Born of spiritual, yes, I tell you spiritual water." The reason why translators don't like to add so many words in the English translations is puzzling because there is no English equivalent for a hendiadys and words do need to be added for clarification. Christ did not say "spiritual water" only. He said something like "truly spiritual water" to emphasize spiritual in a superlative way. Looking at the Hebrew, God never told Eve I will "greatly" multiply your sorrow. Actually the Hebrews reads "Multiplying I will multiply," which is one way the Hebrews used superlatives (in this case using a polyptoton). I quote Genesis because the translators use "greatly" even though the Hebrews never used superlatives either and "greatly" is an added English word. As an aside, since the Hebrews did not use superlatives either, one way they described very red is to simply write "red red."
The Holy Spirit is the Living Water that is part of being born again. In Acts 2 we can read about the beginning of the church where God's Spirit is poured out. In verse 38 Peter tells the crowd that had gathered that they must repent AND be baptized in the name of Jesus FOR the REMISSION of sins and they WOULD receive the Holy Spirit. We see here that there are 3 distinct things mentioned: repentance, baptism and receiving God's Spirit. These 3 steps correspond to the death (repentance), burial (baptism), and resurrection (receiving the Holy Spirit) of Jesus, which is the gospel. This view was not held by the early church, and neither by the reformers. Martin Luther believed and stated that the "water" in John 3:5 refers to water baptism. I feel that you hit the nail on the head my brother this is been something i have been investigating for awhile. Everyone said baptism but the problem with that is baptism does not save us because that is a work and we are saved by grace through faith. People said the water being of natural birth but i don't belive that that was debuked by when Nicodemus said to jesus can a man return to his mother womb, obviously not!!
And “born of water” was NEVER an expression for being born of woman. That has always been referred to as born of flesh, born of man, born of Adam. If Jesus meant born of woman he would have said “one must be born of flesh & spirit.”
My dear brother,I clearly disagree with you on this one. from my understanding, I believe water baptism is a physical action that has a spiritual implication. water baptism is for remission of sins just as it was said by Peter in the book of act 2:38. Also Acts 19:4-7 talks about apostle Paul correcting some certain disciples on water baptism, which they obeyed and where all baptised in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and there received the Holy Ghost.

The water here in John 3 is spiritual as explained in Ezekiel 36:25. Water baptism is taught in many churches as part of the salvation doctrine. That is not true at all. Its ok to be water baptized, but the IMPORTANT baptism is the Holy Spirit we receive after we are born again.

I totally disagree with you. The point in this passage is TWO BIRTHS. He goes on to say that which is born of FLESH is FLESH and that which is born of SPIRIT is SPIRIT.
In order to become part of the Kingdom of Heaven's earth colony you must have a physical body (born of water) and be filled with the Holy Spirit (born of the Spirit). The Holy Spirit is our link to our home country (Heaven) while our physical bodies gives us authority here on Earth, as per Gen 1:26. We become what Adam was originally supposed to be and we can once again rule Earth as God intended, on His behalf. The Kingdom is the solution to all Earth's problems.

The Baptism washes away our old sin nature and separates us from the powers of darkness so that we can now be a slave to righteousness!! Paul eloquently illustrates this fact in Romans 6:1-8! The baptism does cleanse us from our old man (sin nature) after we repent of course! If you don't repent before getting baptized, then it isn't actually a baptism!!

The baptism is in spirit not physical or why would Jesus said in John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Is not talking about H2O but the word of God, the living water.
@@Fr4nkSanchez Jesus Himself was baptized as an example to us. He told Nicodemus we must be born of water AND spirit to enter the kingdom. That we must be born again. This happens through faith and obedience to the Word. Yes, there is only one baptism, but if you dont repent prior to being baptized then it wasnt a baptism at all. It was more like a bath. Just like when a baby is baptized, it isnt a baptism. A person must make a personal and sincere choice to repent to God, and turn away from their sin before they can actually be baptized. This point is illustrated in Acts 2:38 when Peter tells the very Jews that crucified Jesus that they must repent, be baptized into Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and receive the holy spirit. 3000 came to life that day with that message on Pentecost. How can we enter the Kingdom if we arent yet forgiven? The Baptism gives us a clear concience toward God. This is the way to be born again. With it comes a RADICAL transformation, which is our testimony.

Verse 6 explains verse 5. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. The flesh speak of the natural birthing process of humanity and the spirit there is the Spirit of Regeneration (Born Again).
Jesus taught about being born-again in John Chapter 3. In V3 Jesus said "unless one is born again he cannot SEE the kingdom of God" and in v5 Jesus went further, "unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot ENTER the kingdom of God". Seeing and Entering are 2 different steps for a follower of Christ. V16, "whoever believes in Jesus have eternal life". Accepting Jesus as our Lord and savior give us eternal life but also Jesus wants us have "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" In order to have abundant life, we must ENTER and live in the Kingdom of God now, which means that we begin to use the same power in us that resurrected Jesus from the dead, the power of Holy Spirit. This is what Jesus said in v8. Those who entered in to Kingdom will live like with effects of Wind. We don't see wind but we feel and see the effects of the wind. 1st, believe Jesus (the Word) and declare the Word. (I believed, therefore I have spoken) 2nd, Live the Word by doing the Word (Faith without works is dead). 3rd, Be spiritually minded by walking in Spirit (Gal 5:22 -23).
To be born of water, (the symbol of being buried with Christ) Baptism. Some people think today we can skip some things in the Bible. This is not true; we need every Word now more than ever...! It always gets me when I'm standing in front of a woman and she is saying how much of a Christian she is, at the same time her hair is cut short, and she is covered in gold. The little things are just as important, as any part of the Word...! Jesus is depending on us now more than ever... to keep His Word whole... Stop the division, stay the course...! Good job linking John with Paul. Paul never speaks literally of a birth or a begetting, as John often does, but prefers the phrase "new creation." Peter speaks of a "regeneration by the seed of the word" and is the only place where we find that term exactly. Paul's appeals are generally corporate as well. We are IN Christ. The Church is his body and so on. Lots to say, but that's why we have a Bible!

The very first example given for new covenant…..“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Now look at verse 9 again and you'll see there's TWO seperate acts going on. 1st there's the FORGIVNESS of sins that is applied after we've confessed those sins, but 2nd there's ALSO the "cleansing from all unrighteousness" that takes place in our hearts, our unconscious, through the sprinkling of His blood!!

For further follow-up on the Type of these 2 cleansings I'd strongly suggest re-reading Leviticus 14 on how to 1) cleanse a leper (sinner) and 2) prepare the cleansed leper so that he may reenter the camp and see how perfectly God's Word truly has been writeen!! I pray this lands on good soil on both you and everyone else who takes the time to read it as well because there is such great Truth in this...it's NOT just being set free by the Truth, His Word (according to at least John 17:17) which is also His Water, but we can be set free indeed by the Son through the sprinkling of His blood!! And free indeed is very much better than just being free (although both are amazing)!!

Did you take the time to go and read Leviticus 14 and look for the Type(s)?? Or even further back you can look at Israel itself whom though redeemed from Egypt and converted from the Kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light, and being cleansed in the Wilderness STILL needed a 2nd circumcision in Joshua 5 to "roll back" the reproach from Egypt on that 2nd generation...again a Type of cleansing the conscience even though the sins had been left on the other side of the Red Sea. I REALLY DO pray this doesn't land on a hardened heart and you take the time and diligence to go and search the Scriptures I've shared for yourself and let the Spirit tell you what's the Truth and what's not my friend.

Very good study. We have tried for years to get Christians to understand that just because you were baptized, does not mean you are born again. For a lot of people, all they got was wet. Love how God has put such wonderful gifts in this younger generation.

Interesting theory, young man. I have always thought, and still do, that being "born of water" is the natural birth of a human being (a mothers water breaks just before labor). This is the first birth. The Spirit birth is when you are filled with the Holy Spirit at salvation. This is being "Born Again", "which is the second birth". Love your insight.
That has also been my interpretation. But… this lesson really has me thinking. Both interpretations still point to the new birth in the Spirit. Good stuff.
We share the same thought pattern but not the filled with the Spirit part. Born of the Spirit refers to the indwelling Spirit taking up residence within the New Believer. Being filled with the Spirit is that which occurred in Acts where the Believers were filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other to tongues.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

@@scooterp7009 my favorite thing about the miracles and signs of God are that they don’t follow a set formula. While tongues was and can be a sign of the indwelling of the Spirit, the greatest sign is that the believer is filled with the peace and knowledge that they are truly saved.

The "water" is His word, the Biblical scriptures they are spirit and are life, understanding of His word is given by His Holy Spirit who is given to us at the moment of rebirth (born again) Eph.4:30 2Tim.1:14 2Cor.1:22 Rom.8:11 John 14:17 etc. 🙌🙏

I agree with what you have observed and said... because those who come to Jesus, rivers of living water will flow from his bosom.. there's a spiritual cleansing on the person being done by God by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the cleansing of the Word. But in another sense, the Gospel said repent and be baptised, said by John the Baptist, Jesus, and the apostles, and people have done this as well, so that it means there must be willingness for everyone to come to Him to repent and be baptised, a step of faith coming to the Lord so that the Lord will come to him, and so that the work of the Spirit will take effect and be done, the regeneration, cleansing of water, the purging, the transformation with a new heart and renewed mind, the rebirth of the new person.
Water baptism is not required for salvation, but it is necessary for obedience because Yeshua said to do it. Everything He said is nonnegotiable because He is Lord. The Christian life is about more than escaping God's wrath. Let's obey Him because we love Him and He's worthy, not just to escape punishment, though that is also valid.
Baptism is symbol of dedication....(the word does not cleanse,)..... it's the blood sacrifice that does the cleansing (1 John 1.7)

I do wonder what people think about Peter's quote in Acts 10:47-48? Not here to argue, but understand. This directly and emphatically declares we should NOT forbid water (born of the water) and then COMMANDS us (they were gentiles) to be baptized. If baptism by water doesn't matter, why did it matter so much in this instance? Here's the scripture. Thanks for respectful commentary or responses.

I would also add this scripture to go along with my previous comment:

My last point as I wait for responses and keep looking for real meaning as to what Jesus meant by "born of the water". I have also believed it was representing our natural birth by water, and it absolutely could be that. Yet, as I study water, and how God/Jesus reference water, I start seeing some alignment around baptism.

Very interesting study. I re-read John ch. 3 in the interlinear Greek and noticed a couple things.
1) Jesus is answering the questions of Nicodemus - a Pharisee! Nic would have been very familiar with the passages you pulled together, and many others, yet still struggled to understand Jesus' words. Jesus was so patient as He explained the work of His Spirit.
2) Reading the entire chapter, I noticed a focus on the person and deity and work of God's Son. All the way to the end of the chapter - we read the gospel several different ways, by Jesus, and then repeated by John the Baptist. The water, or baptism references, really seem to be focused on repentant hearts where the Spirit moved.
I appreciate you desire to do somthing like this. May I suggest you do a word study on the word baptize, baptized, baptism, baptizing etc.... by looking up every scripture that has those words in them. I would like to suggest you start with Mark16:15-16 where Jesus is talking about this and instructing the Apostles what to teach. After all I think you would agree we need to follow Jesus's instruction on what we teach folks. Also the second one you can look at is Acts 8:26-40. The book of Acts is full of conversions and what they taught imediately following Jesus's resurrection and ascension. And then of course all of the rest of the scriptures that have the word baptize or the variations of that word that I mentioned earlier. Always strive to dive deeper.

Being born of water is being born in the word of God, knowing the scriptures and gaining understanding of the true wisdom within the Word of God which will lead us into being born of the Spirit too. That's what I feel is what is meant here

That water is the same as having the living water flow from within, and is refering to the Holy Spirit. The water is the Spirit given to us.
John 7:38-39 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet [given,] because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Once again, this is great teaching. I agree that faith precedes rebirth (whether that faith is free or predestined), because I know for certain that having faith does not mean that one is reborn. In addition to being born of water and spirit, Jesus tells us two things about being born again: 1. It’s random. 2. You can see the kingdom of God. #1 fully repudiates any possibility that it comes from a decision or action (unless you can decide to make the wind blow), and #2 is a wild, radical transformation of the mind that alters your perception of everything around you. The kingdom of God is TRULY at hand.
How do you know for certain that having faith does not mean that one is reborn? If I have faith, but must also be reborn, then how do I meet this additional requirement for salvation?
@@sarco64 That is an excellent question! There is no additional requirement. We must believe in Jesus to be saved. Belief in Jesus is the only requirement, at least according to Jesus (John 3:16). If you believe in Jesus, you are saved. Of course, if you believe in Jesus, your belief will manifest itself in actions that follow his commands. But you cannot enter into the Kingdom of God until you are born again. And there is no way to control that (again, that’s according to Jesus and his likening it to the wind). ALL saved people WILL be born again to enter the Kingdom of God, but not all saved people ARE born again. My experiences of believing in Jesus and being born again were distinct events, although they were obviously related. My experience of being born again was a radical transformation that proceeded not only without any decision on my part (exactly like the wind) but very much AGAINST my own will. It happened really and truly with me FIGHTING it, even as a believer in Christ. It happened EXACTLY like a baby. I did not even realize this until so much had happened that I finally realized I had been born again. Jesus called it being “born again” (as opposed to “awakening” or some other softer concept) for a reason. It is a shocking, painfully disorienting experience that moves you out of the dark, lightless apparently protected comfort of your previous existence and places you into an entirely new environment. That is a description of being born, and that is a description of being born again. You cross a boundary. Every believer WILL cross that boundary to enter the Kingdom of God, but not every believer has. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Being born again means you enter it now. There are many pastors out there who truly believe in Jesus, but their actions are of the world. They are saved, but they have not entered the Kingdom of God, because if they had, they would stop doing a lot (maybe even all) of what they’re doing. I am completely aware of all the objections that could be raised to what I’m describing, and it is only my testimony. But one objection that cannot be raised is that it is inconsistent with scripture. Belief = being saved. Born again = entering the Kingdom of God. There are people who might say that these two things are the same, but Jesus wasn’t one of them.
@@stephenstrager9852 Many, many people want to quote John 3:16 out of context. John 3 should be read from verse 1-22 as a unit.
In a number of places, as in John 3:16, “believe” is used as a summary or a synecdoche. Synecdoche is “a figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole.” When Moses said not a “hoof” shall be left behind (Exodus 10:26), he used a synecdoche, as does a cattleman who says he has “ninety head of cattle.” Jesus used a synecdoche here in John 3:16: “whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” He permitted belief, which is only one condition of pardon, to stand for all the conditions. This does not make repentance, confession, or baptism unnecessary any more than God’s granting Gentiles “repentance to life” (Acts 11:18) makes belief unnecessary.
Belief does not equal being saved. Scripture has several examples of those who believed but did not go on to salvation. John 12:42,43 is but one example. James 2:29 says "You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder!". James says that belief does not equal salvation.
On the other hand, Jesus says that being born again equals entering the kingdom of Heaven which equals salvation. You cannot enter the kingdom without being saved. Jesus said that you cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven without being born again of water and the Spirit. Jesus definitely said that these two were one and the same.
I don't want to discount your feelings. You feel them. That is as it is. But feelings are not what the kingdom is about. Only by the word of God can we find the true Gospel.

And before I was born again, I absolutely would have analyzed the text from a purely intellectual standpoint using terms like that. Not today. One thing we know for sure is that you 100% believe that salvation is totally predetermined and completely out of one’s control, since Jesus says that irrefutably and without the slightest room for variance when it comes to being born again: The wind blows where it will-he could not possibly have come up with a more precise example of something we can’t control. I have been a Bible teacher and author for over 50 years, so I don't think at this point in my life I have as many experiences to look forward to as have already gone by. And yes, as a retired engineer, I have a fairly analytical mind. But I definitely have been born again, and try my best to be led by the Spirit. I don't base my doctrinal position on my feelings, or even my experience. The Holy Spirit is the author of all scripture, and scripture alone is my guide. I would love to have you school me (from scripture) about the much I have wrong. But if you say that salvation is completely out of our control, that makes you sound like a Calvinist. If so, we can probably find little common ground.
I have to disagree with you using the wind analogy to mean we have no control over over decision to follow Christ. Jesus is describing the one born of the Spirit. Sometimes conversion comes quietly with little fanfare like a gentle breeze, and other times it makes an Earth shattering difference in a convert's life, like a tsunami. We don't know beforehand how the Spirit will come. Too many scriptures plead with us to turn to God (repent), call on His name, not to harden our hearts, etc... for any reasonable person to conclude that we have no part in our salvation. Before you jump to conclusions about what I believe, let me state, there is absolutely no meritorious work we can perform to earn any part of our salvation. It is all God's grace. I assume that we will just have to agree to disagree on the rest.

Being born of the water is clearly baptism and the spirit is when one has been filled with (Holy Spirit). Peter said “ Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall (receive) the gift of the (Holy Ghost).
So you need baptism in order to be truly saved? There are so many verses that contradict that statement and false belief that you need to be physically baptized in order to be saved. Look up acts 10: 44 and study that. And it’s be baptized “because of” the forgiveness of your sins not “in order to receive” the forgiveness of your sins.

David, only Jesus can save. Because of Jesus you can be forgiven of your sins and be reconciled back to God. Salvation is a gift from God when you believe in Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. "God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism doesn't necessarily save you but Jesus Himself was baptized. "After His baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on Him" (Matthew 3:16).

The passage you quoted is a washing of repentance. The reason it is call the baptism of repentance, NOT a baptism for repentance.
Repentance is the washing/renewing of the mind/change of mind, that comes by hearing the Word of God. We are WASHED by the Word of God.
Repent and be made clean/Repent and be baptized. Same thing different wording but the same meaning.
A person can not receive the Holy Ghost if they are not made clean.
Many time we see where people repented and then received the Holy Ghost.
They were never dunked in water.
They heard the Word, repented and were made clean/baptized.
We also have an example where some were dunked and never received the Holy Ghost.
Paul asked them about this and then shared the Word of God with them and they repented and immediately received the Holy Ghost.
This baptism Jesus spoke of has nothing to do with physical water. It is repentance he was speaking of.
To repent is to turn from something to another way. It is not a confession of sin.

But one of us is definitely confused about the purpose of baptism. Let's assume for a moment that it is me. If I agree that "Water baptism is not for the remission of sins" then Peter must have also been confused when he said "Repent, and BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR THE REMISSION OF SIN". Paul was also confused when he said that God chose him as an example of how we are to be saved (1 Timothy 1:16) and then related in Acts 22:16 how he was told to "Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins". Paul still had this confusion when he told the Ephesians that their baptism of repentance (the baptism of John) was not good enough, and that they needed to be rebaptized into Christ. Even Christ was confused about the role of baptism when He said in Mark 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved". It is curious that He didn't say "Whoever believes and repents will be saved".
That Christ and His Apostles were confused on this issue would be a hard (impossible) pill to swallow. I don't care what any preacher says. Let's stick with the Bible.

An extensive look into why “born of water” in John 3:5 is water baptism & not natural birth as some say:
“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”

Here we see in both the old & new covenant & even from Jesus Himself (who said unless one is born of water & Spirit...), referring to someone born naturally as being born of women (or “out of” woman if translated more literally); not once is the term "born of water" used clearly to refer to natural birth & the term is only ever used in John 3 when talking about the new birth in context to Nicodemus's curiosity as to the supernatural power of Jesus ministry. It would be strange for Jesus who used the term "born of women" to suddenly use the term "born of water" once to refer to the same thing when no one else ever in scripture uses that term... especially considering Nicodemus said nothing about water in the natural birth to give Jesus a reason for using that term for natural birth.
However Nicodemus would connect the term "out of water" when talking about the new birth to baptism, because great crowds were flocking to be baptized by John the baptist & it was only after Jesus Himself came out of water (Matt 3:16) & the Spirit descended on Him that He could minister with signs & wonders, fitting the exact context of Nicodemus's curiosity as to why Jesus ministry was one of signs & wonders, God being with Him; where as Nicodemus the teacher of Israel did not have this supernatural aspect to his ministry.
Jesus disciples were also baptizing many at the time so water & being immersed into it for a new, clean start would have been in everyone's knowledge at the time & also the Pharisees of whom Nicodemus was one refused John’s baptism, so it is quite a humbling & appropriate statement to make to Nicodemus that he must humble himself & be willing to be baptized to experience a new start (though baptism into Christ had not come yet but John was preparing the way)!
So why did Jesus not just use the term baptized in water?
Well baptized/immersed/dipped was just a verb then (“baptizó” in the Greek meaning to submerge, dip under, immerse) & it was not coined as a term for a specific event like it is now, so to say “out of water” would be just as clear as the term “baptism” is to us. Also to come out of water means one has to have been immersed into water first; which by definition is water baptism.
When Nicodemus asks how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb?
The emphasis of this question is not about natural birth for I can't imagine Nicodemus to be genuinely thinking an old man could go inside his mother's womb & be born that way again! The essence of his question is "I am an old man, how can I experience this new birth that you're talking about?" hence Jesus then going into more detail about how he can be born again, breaking it down into water & Spirit.
Finally when Jesus says "that which is born of flesh is flesh & that which is born of spirit is spirit" He is saying the natural birth has nothing to do with the spiritual birth & so He uses the term "born of flesh" which is used elsewhere in scripture:
But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.

If this statement “whatever is born of flesh is flesh” referred back to the water part of “born out of water & the Spirit” then surely Jesus would use the same term! & say "whatever is born of water is flesh/fleshly". However in this statement He clearly divides born of flesh from born of Spirit, but in the statement before He puts water & Spirit together, emphasizing the fact they are two parts of the same new birth, & to support this, all through the book of Acts we see water & Spirit together & in 1 John 5:8.
'This is he who came by water and blood-Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. '
1 John 5:6-9 ESV
Flesh is also used in scripture of those trying by their own efforts or of the sinful nature which would put a different meaning altogether to “that which is born of flesh is flesh”: it would mean those who are born of flesh/into sin are fleshly/sinful people but those who are born of the Spirit are Spiritual people; enabling Nicodemus to be able to identify between the two.
Jesus from this statement on, refers to the Spiritual aspect of the birth as it is the Spirit who enables signs & wonders & who changes people's character & I have already in another post discussed the reference of the next bit about the Spirit blowing, to Pentecost, which Nicodemus himself would likely have experienced as he helped take down Jesus body from the cross & so was still around & respected Jesus.
Furthermore, for Jesus to tell someone who is already born naturally that they need to be born naturally to enter the Kingdom is completely unnecessary & pointless to say because everyone who reads or hears this is already born naturally, it would be a null & void statement that would add nothing helpful to the conversation & would not help Nicodemus one bit, & would probably imply to him that he does need to go back into his mother's womb & be born naturally again to enter the Kingdom of God! Exactly the opposite of what Jesus is saying!
Finally Titus 3:5 is another witness in scripture that puts water baptism as part of the new birth along with the Holy Spirit, further supporting John 3:5 to mean water & Spirit baptism:
'But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the bath (literally a bath of water!) of new birth and renewal of Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.'
Therefore I am confident being born out of water means water baptism & being born out of Spirit means Spirit baptism.

It is an òbvious allusion to water baptism. It is an introduction to a new way. Later through Mark 16:16, Acts 2:28, Gal 3:27, Acts 8, Romans 6, etc... we find that water baptism is the point at which sins are forgiven.
Jesus is what washes away our sin, not baptism. What about the man on the cross that Jesus said would be with him in paradise. He had no time to get baptized, it’s just belief in Jesus that cleanses our sin

At this point Christ was still alive, and the command to be baptized as a condition of salvation had not yet been given (Mark 16:16), thus not relevant to this conversation. Today, we live under the new covenant. The old covenant is no longer in effect, and we cannot be saved under its provisions. To say that I don't have to be baptized because the thief on the cross wasn't would be equivalent to me arguing that since George Washington didn’t pay federal income tax, I don’t have too either.
Yes, the blood of Jesus is what washes away our sin, but scripture teaches that we contact His blood (spiritually) in the waters of baptism.

I believe I was washed by water and spirit. It took both. I was singing to God in the shower, I had an experience, and I've been a different way ever since. Since it didn't happen in church there is little interest in my experience but I believe it is the way to overcome sin and our sinful world.

It clearly spells out that you must repent, which is being washed of your sins, wherein John says later in his epistles, If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness, and believe, wherein the Apostle Paul states that the Spirit takes residence in our heart by faith unto the day of redemption. So it is revealed that the Spirit bears once unto cleanness, and again unto holiness. Because if we are not first cleaned, man or woman or child or not, God won't have anything to do with us, because he is a holy and Just One
Woke up one morning and had a familiar "brand", or name I couldn't quite place. Kept thinking why is this an ear bug trying too figure it out...hmm, barbasol,...no...what is a barabas? Then it hit me stupid hard. ... and in an instant I knew Jesus died for me, and I was absolutely full of exhilaration and joy! I bawled like a baby at 56. I mean ugly cried hard over His saving Grace He just filled me with. Repentance was instantaneous and man did I feel ridiculous about what I thought so much of me, it was and it was so silly! I literally had no idea what born again meant or even a new heart. And that very day I grabbed a Holy Bible and turned toward the new Testament only too find Ezekiel and my new flesh heart! Only our Living Savior Yeshua would guide a prodigal as myself. I truly try and know only His Truth, Life and Way. Keep the narrow path!

The Living Water is also another good thing to remember for when Jesus speaks of this, Jesus Christ is our salvation and the Holy Spirit comes from Him and His sacrifice and through Him comes Living Waters.

The best commentary on the Bible is the Holy Spirit commentary. John has already told us that we need no man to teach us and that the anointing abides in us. Run with it and never let it go, for it shall lead thee and guide the in all thy ways.

I taught classical Greek for 25 years in Europe. "Born of water and spirit" is not two things, but one. The Greek construction is called a hendiadys. It consists of two nouns separated by "and." The second noun becomes a superlative adjective that modifies the first noun. Christ thus said, "Born of spiritual, yes, I tell you spiritual water." The reason why translators don't like to add so many words in the English translations is puzzling because there is no English equivalent for a hendiadys and words do need to be added for clarification. Christ did not say "spiritual water" only. He said something like "truly spiritual water" to emphasize spiritual in a superlative way. Looking at the Hebrew, God never told Eve I will "greatly" multiply your sorrow. Actually the Hebrews reads "Multiplying I will multiply," which is one way the Hebrews used superlatives (in this case using a polyptoton). I quote Genesis because the translators use "greatly" even though the Hebrews never used superlatives either and "greatly" is an added English word. As an aside, since the Hebrews did not use superlatives either, one way they described very red is to simply write "red red."
The Holy Spirit is the Living Water that is part of being born again. In Acts 2 we can read about the beginning of the church where God's Spirit is poured out. In verse 38 Peter tells the crowd that had gathered that they must repent AND be baptized in the name of Jesus FOR the REMISSION of sins and they WOULD receive the Holy Spirit. We see here that there are 3 distinct things mentioned: repentance, baptism and receiving God's Spirit. These 3 steps correspond to the death (repentance), burial (baptism), and resurrection (receiving the Holy Spirit) of Jesus, which is the gospel. Completely agree nowadays. I used to think natural birth or baptism also. Remember also Jesus said to the Syrian woman that He had Living Water, and Rev 22 says He will give freely to anyone who thirsts, the water of life.

I feel that you hit the nail on the head my brother this is been something i have been investigating for awhile. Everyone said baptism but the problem with that is baptism does not save us because that is a work and we are saved by grace through faith. People said the water being of natural birth but i don't belive that that was debuked by when Nicodemus said to jesus can a man return to his mother womb, obviously not!!
And “born of water” was NEVER an expression for being born of woman. That has always been referred to as born of flesh, born of man, born of Adam. If Jesus meant born of woman he would have said “one must be born of flesh & spirit.”

My dear brother,I clearly disagree with you on this one. from my understanding, I believe water baptism is a physical action that has a spiritual implication. water baptism is for remission of sins just as it was said by Peter in the book of act 2:38. Also Acts 19:4-7 talks about apostle Paul correcting some certain disciples on water baptism, which they obeyed and where all baptised in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and there received the Holy Ghost.

The water here in John 3 is spiritual as explained in Ezekiel 36:25. Water baptism is taught in many churches as part of the salvation doctrine. That is not true at all. Its ok to be water baptized, but the IMPORTANT baptism is the Holy Spirit we receive after we are born again.
When you was born ,you was born with water, Jesus came through water, now you need to be born of God spirit , Satan didn't come through..

In order to become part of the Kingdom of Heaven's earth colony you must have a physical body (born of water) and be filled with the Holy Spirit (born of the Spirit). The Holy Spirit is our link to our home country (Heaven) while our physical bodies gives us authority here on Earth, as per Gen 1:26. We become what Adam was originally supposed to be and we can once again rule Earth as God intended, on His behalf. The Kingdom is the solution to all Earth's problems.

The Baptism washes away our old sin nature and separates us from the powers of darkness so that we can now be a slave to righteousness!! Paul eloquently illustrates this fact in Romans 6:1-8! The baptism does cleanse us from our old man (sin nature) after we repent of course! If you don't repent before getting baptized, then it isn't actually a baptism!!

@@Fr4nkSanchez Jesus Himself was baptized as an example to us. He told Nicodemus we must be born of water AND spirit to enter the kingdom. That we must be born again. This happens through faith and obedience to the Word. Yes, there is only one baptism, but if you dont repent prior to being baptized then it wasnt a baptism at all. It was more like a bath. Just like when a baby is baptized, it isnt a baptism. A person must make a personal and sincere choice to repent to God, and turn away from their sin before they can actually be baptized. This point is illustrated in Acts 2:38 when Peter tells the very Jews that crucified Jesus that they must repent, be baptized into Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and receive the holy spirit. 3000 came to life that day with that message on Pentecost. How can we enter the Kingdom if we arent yet forgiven? The Baptism gives us a clear concience toward God. This is the way to be born again. With it comes a RADICAL transformation, which is our testimony.

How i see it is, when you are baptised by Jesus (blood coventent) with the Holy Spirit (water) Genisis...the Holy Spirit hovered over the waters of the earth, also, when Jesus was crucified and they pierced him....blood and water came out. God Adonia circumcision your heart, so that you become a new man, the Isreal of God.....one of the letters of Paul (Saul). Verse 6 explains verse 5. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. The flesh speak of the natural birthing process of humanity and the spirit there is the Spirit of Regeneration (Born Again).
Jesus taught about being born-again in John Chapter 3. In V3 Jesus said "unless one is born again he cannot SEE the kingdom of God" and in v5 Jesus went further, "unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot ENTER the kingdom of God". Seeing and Entering are 2 different steps for a follower of Christ. V16, "whoever believes in Jesus have eternal life". Accepting Jesus as our Lord and savior give us eternal life but also Jesus wants us have "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" In order to have abundant life, we must ENTER and live in the Kingdom of God now, which means that we begin to use the same power in us that resurrected Jesus from the dead, the power of Holy Spirit. This is what Jesus said in v8. Those who entered in to Kingdom will live like with effects of Wind. We don't see wind but we feel and see the effects of the wind. 1st, believe Jesus (the Word) and declare the Word. (I believed, therefore I have spoken) 2nd, Live the Word by doing the Word (Faith without works is dead). 3rd, Be spiritually minded by walking in Spirit (Gal 5:22 -23).

To be born of water, (the symbol of being buried with Christ) Baptism. Some people think today we can skip some things in the Bible. This is not true; we need every Word now more than ever...! It always gets me when I'm standing in front of a woman and she is saying how much of a Christian she is, at the same time her hair is cut short, and she is covered in gold. The little things are just as important, as any part of the Word...! Jesus is depending on us now more than ever... to keep His Word whole... Stop the division, stay the course...!
