I've ridden past a few cops and no one bothers me. I should be fine as long as I don't drive like a bat out of hell lol 🤣 I work night shift and have no problems seeing unless it's a car with their headlights out or really dim coming up next to me.
If you're driving in a really dark area can you still see out the windshield/ see pedestrians? I like the look of the 50% on the windshield but I don't want it to make driving at night a hazard
Yesterday morning I got 20% all sides including my windshield. 20% was great during the day and look awesome, but at night it was too dark for me. I mean I could drive in it, but I can tell it can pose a hazard when it comes to pedestrians while making turns, etc. Also can't forget when it snows and rain. So this morning I went back to the shop and got 50%. I was tempted with 35% but watched other videos on YT. And 35% also looked dark at night. 50% still look mean. Especially if you have all black interior which I have. You can't see the driver or passenger faces. bright clothing is barley seen. let me stop ranting 😆
This was an amazing comparison and demonstration! Thanks for this! I just put my deposit down on PPF and ceramic IR tint. Went in with the intention of getting 70% on the windshield of my Model Y and they convinced me to opt for 50% as a number of the Tesla's they had in shop had it and it looked pretty good, but I was worried about how it would look at night time.
Honestly 70% is a waste if you weren't just getting it for actual benefits of tint besides privacy. 50% is a pretty good compromise. Wish a company would provide a 40-45%. 35 on windshield is too dark at night, but 50 during the day you can barely notice it unless the rest of your vehicle has medium level tint. I did 15% ceramic ctx llumar all around, 50% on windshield and it's the perfect compromise of privacy and visabilty without being in constant alert. 50% windshield with high quality tint virtually zero loss of visabilty looking out but you get a slight dark increase to your cabin and other windows.
@@jmabs5096 that's what I ended up going with... 15% all around 3M Ceramic IR, 50% on the roof, and 50% 3M crystalline on the windshield. So bright inside the car, but looks nice and dark from the outside.
I got the same setup 50% on the windshield and 20% all around and my only regret is not getting it sooner. I could’ve even went darker to 15% all around but i would keep the 50% on the windshield its perfect
My eyesight is 20/10 (from 20ft actual it appears 10ft to Me) 20/20 is normal - I don’t think I’d have an issue seeing Im just concerned with the likelihood of getting pulled over
I've been tinting my vehicles for decades and recently did my latest Model 3 with 3M Ceramic IR. Just a word of caution...the Ceramic IR film looks WAYYY lighter than other brands and types and more blue-ish and this is with my black interior. I did 50% on the windshield and 35% on the sides and rear and honestly wish I went darker like the 25% or 30%. I had Lumar Pinnacle 40% ceramic on my last car and this 35% looks lighter which is weird. Oh well....lesson learned, not all film is comparable by %.
The ceramic IR has a weird and higher VLT than the percent it claims. For ex. I did IR35 3m windshield tint and the picture showing info about all the tint percentages says it has a 45% VLT. Supposedly according to my tint guy, 3’ does it like this so when the film is combined on top of the factory shade, it’s a true %.
Yea I had 20% llumar atc (basic dyed tint) it looks darker than their ctx ceramic at the same level. The benefits of ceramic is worth the extra money. Going to get my Tacoma 15% ceramic all around with 50% windshield! Without the windshield tint, 15% looks like 30% and with it actually makes it looks darker. I didn't want 5% because it's dangerous at night. This combo negates that risk with good viability but during the day, most of the cabin is dark enough so you can eat your boogers without too much risk of folks judging you 😂😂😂😂jkjk
I agree. I have a model Y and did 3M ceramic IR 25% on the side and I think it looks amazing however I swear it has the same darkness of my precious car tint which was 3M 35% color stable. I also agree with it being a slightly more bluish tint. Not visible however when compared to factory tint you can tell the factory tint has a more yellow tone to it. Getting 3M ceramic IR on my windshield this week and can’t decide between 50% or 70%. I was going to go for 70% but after your point I may do 50%. No wonder the tint guy told me “15% ceramic IR compares to 20% color stable”. Now I see.
@@NJ-750 Yeah, no regrets with 50% on the windshield. Find myself using my sun glasses less during the day unless driving into direct sun because of it, yet still decent at night.
Most states only allow visor strip to be tinted. Some allow clear full front windshield tint. Otherwise most illegal to tint front windshield and shops wont even do it around me.
You should park your car in a sunny spot rather than in the shade if you are trying to demonstrate the tint darkness. When there’s sunlight there’s a lot more see through visibility especially at certain angles so it gives a better representation of how dark the tint is under all circumstances. Especially most people that do tints live in hot climates since there’s very little reason to tint it in cold states.
PSA: getting pulled over and paying for the tint ticket are the least of your worries.(in most states, at least the ones around me, they will void the tickets once you present evidence that the illegal tint is removed) No... the real worry is that you get into an accident. Two of my friends are personal injury lawyers(working together in the same mega law firm). They tell me that they ALWAYS investigate and document illegal or malfunctioning equipment of the other party's cars. If there's illegal tint, it's quite easy to sue and win.(example "you client had illegal tint that hindered his/her vision and caused injury to my client"
I live in an extremely sunny area... My rear and side windwos are 10% tinted (darkest available, it's a mirror from outside impossible to see inside), I don't see a shit at night except mirror and in closed parking lots I have to open the windows to see... It protects extremely well, doesn't allow sun to get inside at all... I plan to tint the front windshield but I am worried about whether or not seeing properly...
@@Phoenix.Douglas yeah I would not do that dark in front . It's important for pedestrians to see you too from outside. 50% is a nice combo of heat rejection and visibility. Darker parking lots I also sometimes roll the window down too with my 20%
I’m in Queen Creek can I come see it in person? I just got a MYP and I’m cooking in a fishbowl. I’m scheduled for next Thursday but need to pick a windshield tint.
I will say 50% at night when it’s pouring rain if you don’t have good lights it’ll be a little rough in darker areas also but with streetlights will always be fine, personally I wouldn’t go any lower if you’re vision isn’t 20/20 during the day is never a concern and on gloomy days it makes the car look really good & it’s actually relatively hard to see in (which I like) I also have very sensitive eyes so it did help me a lot because I’ve had times where I would have to pull over for a bit because of that without it.
@@slimigo321 I personally feel its the perfect middle ground it will be noticeably darker at night and in certain conditions of course but just be more aware and mindful during storms and driving in non well lit areas etc at night. @@slimigo321 I had 50% on my last car and it didn't really affect my visibility too much at all at night. If you already have issues driving in the rain or at when it's dark, however, then 50% will probably make it a tad bit harder for you to see.

@@RobertSchmitt It's a bunch of horizontal/diagonal lines that appear as darker and lighter areas, I have noticed this on tinted side window, but it would obviously be very distracting to drive with this on the windshield. @@alexander_sinclair yes. If tint was applied before the damage then insurance pays for the tint. Depending on who does the tint or if the glass repair shop has the service in house will give you an idea of timing. I have a tint guy and has my glass replaced first and then tint guy tinted later.

Maybe. I have 35 on my windshield and when the sun is directly infront of me there still is a tad bit of glare but it's fine for headlights so 50% might be a lil worse
I just got my windows tinted with Xpel Prime Plus (IR) with 50% windshield, and 20% for all other windows, except moonroof 5%. I'm really happy with how it looks, when I'm outside the car looking at it. Looking from the inside, to the outside, the sides and rear are pretty dark. And driving at night, I'll need to take some time getting use to how it looks out the sides and back. But, the windshield is surprisingly lighter then I would expect during the day As well as at night. It looks like your setup in your video. Though, maybe they goofed and did my front with 70%? I should double check just with the tint place to make sure. Also, my 2022 Subaru's WRX GT's windows came partially tinted. Like it's in the glass, from the manufacture. Very faint on the driver and passenger. A tiny bit more for the windows behind it. The Xpel film is now onto of the glass and helps make most of the windows darker. That could be why the windshield looks as light as it is. For that had no tint in the glass from the manufacture. And now supposedly has 50% on it. Looking like how yours is.
So whats it like when your driving in the middle of no where at night? I notice most people live in the cities for these. Yet I have to watch out for animals that come on the road and want to make sure I can see them comming from the sides if with 50%
@@sparrowhawk5673 good question. I'm in the city. I am sometimes in area with no street lighting and is very dark. I was recently in a dark alley, with no lighting. Let me tell you what that was like. With the headlights on, there are no issues with seeing things out the front windshield that is at 55%. I previously said it was 50%. But for Xpel IR it's really 55%. My '22 WRX has LED lighting, and it's very bright and focused. So much more brighter than non LED headlights. My sides and rear windows are at 20%. It's a tad bit darker due to the OEM windows having a very slight dark tint built into the glass for the sides and rear. It's impossible to really safely see things out those windows in this situation. Being able to safely see a pedestrain or animal out those windows is definitely issue. My car has a rear facing camera, with light. Using that, I can see what is behind me when I'm backing up at a slow speed. Another option is I can roll down my driver and passenger windows when I need to see things to the sides. So when I'm driving at normal speed in a dark area, I can easily see anything that's walking in my path. If I have to stop, or drive very slowly, then I need to pay extra attention for people/bicycles/dogs that may pass me on my left or right side. So I don't steer/drift into them. I usually roll down the windows for that.
If you live in a state that doesnt allow windshield tint go 70%. You wont get pulled over because it looks like factory tint. Its easy to see through it but you get the benefits of heat reduction and little more privacy. Been driving for 15years multiple cars in that span. I always do 70% on the windshield never had a problem even with cops right next to my vehicle. When you start going down to 50 or below it becomes really obvious your windshield is tinted. Just depends how petty the cops in your area are and if you draw attention to yourself when you drive. 60% you are still safe but you are borderline. Trust me windshield makes a big difference even going down 10% more. Especially if you have a dark interior.
Where the tint ends around the review mirror camera, is it obvious with that area having no tint. Does it look funny? Thinking about getting my model s front windshield done but still on the fence. Not sure how it would look with again that area on the windshield not having tint and also having that much water anywhere near that area when its being installed. Is it worth the risk.

I went from 50 to 35% with a 5% visor halfway down my windshield and 5 all way around. I'll say 50 isn't much IF you HAVE great eye sight
Yes agreed
Just wear glasses if needed lol
I have a Kia Soul and I just got 20% on the front sides to match the factory tint on the back and I got 50% on the windshield. It's only been a week since I got the job done, and so far so good! I've ridden past a few cops and no one bothers me. I should be fine as long as I don't drive like a bat out of hell lol 🤣 I work night shift and have no problems seeing unless it's a car with their headlights out or really dim coming up next to me.
Still good
I've had my soul for like 6 years now and I speed like crazy. Cops see me and just keep going lol. I don't think they take our little cars serious

Do you still have this set up? Do you reccomend 15 all around and 50 on windshield
Do you still have this set up? Do you reccomend 15 all around and 50 on windshield
This is the video I needed to make the choice. Thank you.
If you're driving in a really dark area can you still see out the windshield/ see pedestrians? I like the look of the 50% on the windshield but I don't want it to make driving at night a hazard
it's a little harder but yes can see
Of course you can still see wear glasses I got 20 percent on mine and don’t use glasses and see perfectly fine.. only problem would be with the cops
50% is ok but if you get 20% it'll be hard. 35% is still ok but 50% is much easier at night and in rain
50% was way to light for me. Getting 35% installed soon.
It’s not hard at all to see at night. If you’re scared about the cops then go with 50%
This was an amazing comparison and demonstration!
Wow. 50 is legit! Thanks for sharing. Think I’m going with this for sure.
I got the same setup 50% on the windshield and 20% all around and my only regret is not getting it sooner. I could’ve even went darker to 15% all around but i would keep the 50% on the windshield its perfect

@@Rw.M240 I did. I asked
@@Rw.M240 weak ass BMW 🤡
I wonder how that 50% would look with the white interior
Definitely less dark!
Thanks!! Your videos helped me decide what tint to get!!
Very helpful, thank you brother! Hello from Miami, FL
we need to change the laws.....
Yes darker tint is needed in the desert!
Did this today, also in SFL. Cannot believe I waited so long. I will always have windshield tinted moving forward, 50%!

I will say 50% at night when it’s pouring rain if you don’t have good lights it’ll be a little rough in darker areas also but with streetlights will always be fine, personally I wouldn’t go any lower if you’re vision isn’t 20/20 during the day is never a concern and on gloomy days it makes the car look really good & it’s actually relatively hard to see in (which I like) I also have very sensitive eyes so it did help me a lot because I’ve had times where I would have to pull over for a bit because of that without it.
hey so i don’t have 20/20 vision and i was thinking of the 50% windshield would work for me at night , so did the 50% work out good for you?
@@slimigo321 I personally feel its the perfect middle ground it will be noticeably darker at night and in certain conditions of course but just be more aware and mindful during storms and driving in non well lit areas etc at night. yeah I still am satisfied. i would get 50% again. The tesla headlights are good enough where supplemental light isnt available. Granted I have 20/20 vision
Does it help to reduce glare from the sun and other peoples headlights? Im thinking of tinting my windows like this because Im sick of everyone disorienting me with their bright a*s LED lights But I also dont want to go too dark this seems perfect.
