      Yeah he's damn good, only thing that bothered me about his play style was in Megadeth, any Friedman solos he would play didn't have the fluidity, he would have random stops in solos where he couldn't smoothly go onto another note.

    • @TheyCallMeMrMaybe
      @TheyCallMeMrMaybe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Hugo he was essentially emulating Poland and Friedman's solos. Don't get me wrong Broderick is possibly one of the best guitar players to ever play in Megadeth but his style of play(which is blatantly heavier) clashed with what he played live at shows. Endgame and 13 are possibly the best examples of his influence on the band but given how Mustaine and fans always keep the set list to their 90's hits, most newer guitarist don't get a chance to play what they write for Megadeth(and mustaine knows this if you listen to his commentary on Super Collider)

    • @TheGreatAlan75
      @TheGreatAlan75 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No it comes down to content being of importance , not just technique. Marty wrote awesome and memorable solos, while Broderick just wanks off and leaves me cold with EVERY SOLO

    Killer riffs. Cool solo. Badass intro.
    Subtle tempo changes. Fluent rhythm creations.
    Knew it! Broderick is much more than we saw in the past. He's a technical monster and he's doing what he wants right now.
    And omg. I did not like the vocals when I listened to teaser first. But now, he's good... Literally, really good!
    Overall, they're much more metal than most of the other bands today. They put their energy into it with furor and ambition.
    As a result, I really liked that Act Of Defiance project. Keep rocking!

I remember watching that little series he did on Guitar World and thinking "Why the fuck doesn't Mustaine allow this?" The only time Broderick was in the band where he demonstrated something remotely like this was one measure on Sudden Death and that's it.

  • @LifeofEbb
    @LifeofEbb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +131

    As much as how I love Megadeth, I absolutely hated how Mustaine held back Broderick and Drover in terms of writing, especially Broderick. It's no wonder they've been on the major decline since Endgame...

    • @VegaMyster
      @VegaMyster 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Capone Genesis Dave has always been the main contributor/song writer in Megadeth, it's nothing new.

    • @LifeofEbb
      @LifeofEbb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Vega M I know, but when you compare it to the golden era from Rust to Youth, you can really tell that Menza and Friedman had their own input considered at least, especially with Friedman's solos. Broderick on the other hand didn't ever have much time to shine at all through his own solos.

    • @VegaMyster
      @VegaMyster 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Capone Genesis
      Shawns drumming doesn't sound drastically different here and neither does Brodericks playing. Endgame had plenty of Brodericks solo's - Many of which were great and some rank amongst the best of Megadeth - and slowly tapered off, same thing went for RiP with Marty/Menza, the big difference with Marty/Menza being they did more albums together then any line up afterwards. Megadeth has never really tried doing the same album twice, you don't really know what you're going to get until its out.

    • @gotmilk4377
      @gotmilk4377 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Capone Genesis I heard a really long interview with Chris Adler (gonna be drumming on the next album if you didn't already know) on Metalsucks, and he actually had input for the material. He told Dave some stuff sucked, or that, as a Megadeth fan himself, if something wasn't what a fan would want to hear from Megadeth. I'm pretty excited about the new album.

    Act of Defiance - Throwback
    Stuck, a relic in time
    Dated, erase from my mind
    Your words have no merit
    Whisper from the past, grin and bear it
    Actions, horrid things you do
    Court jester playing the fool
    Hypocrite in your belief
    To all you're nothing but a thief
    But a thief
    Time has come
    Penance for things you've done
    Lies spilling from your teeth
    Spewing up from beneath
    You're a throwback
    Nothing but a throwback
    Winding back the hands of time
    Taking back what is mine
    Life no longer will I give
    Another sucker to help you live
    Your presence makes me sick
    Spreading lies, think it makes you slick
    On the table, nothing to offer
    Morally bankrupt, empty the coffer
    Casting out the line
    Friendship torn, we pay the fine
    Put us all on the hook
    For the lives that you took
    You're a throwback
    Nothing but a throwback
    Throwback
    Throwback
    Throwback
    Throwback
    {Bridge}
    Bad blood, on the wall
    Shouts echo through the hall
    And though, you can't see
    Your absence I decree
    Dagger, in the back
    Cold blood, soul of black
    Live and learn, we've all heard
    On your own, the absurd
    Cockroach under my foot
    Scurrying away with what you took
    Back from the filth, which you came
    Stealing ideas for your acclaim
    Parasite bleeding out my vein
    Diminishing the soul as you drain
    Weakened will, you're left with doubt
    It's at this time I cast you out
    Talking behind our backs
    Making allies with false facts
    The circles that you spin
    Confusion, chaos, you can't win
    You're a throwback
    Nothing but a throwback
    Vulture picking through the scraps
    Rummage around your hopes collapse
    Picked to the bone no more to swallow
    Retribution soon to follow
    Virus spreading through the human race
    Disguised as a friend as you try to save face
    The fever runs its frantic course
    Rooting you out at the source
    Hourglass of fate
    Falling sands as you berate
    Kinship only as it serves
    Wretched friendship no one deserves
    You're a throwback
    Nothing but a throwback
    {Bridge}
    Bad blood, on the wall
    Shouts echo through the hall
    And though, you can't see
    Your absence I decree
    Dagger, in the back
    Cold blood, soul of black
    Live and learn, we've all heard
    On your own, the absurd

    Meh. I can't be the only one who's tired of every metal band trying to use harsh vocals these days. I love Death metal, Black metal, Grindcore, but I also love Iron maiden, Judas Priest, and Dio. Why aren't metal bands looking for the next Ronnie James Dio, or Rob Halford? These type of vocals are just over done now. Like I said, I love my death metal, but I'm also interested in hearing some really good metal where the singer can actually sing too(and I don't mean mixing harsh and clean vocals...I hate that shit). And none if this whiny, modern rock vocals stuff neither. I want to hear some traditional metal vocals return to metal again.

      moremetalthanyou71 Because it takes actual talent and lots of practice to sing like Dio, Halford, Dickinson, Cornell, etc. Pretty much anyone can sing like this, although this dude is one of the better singers I've heard as far as that style goes - at least it's not total monotone Death Metal grunts and growls.

      Man I'd be happy if someone even discovered the next John Bush. Metal bands put so much effort into their playing, but get so lazy when they pick their vocalists. I think Randy Blythe is a pretty "meh" vocalist too. I still think Max Cavalera, Tom Araya, Mille Petrozza, and Tom Angel Ripper are the best when it comes to the heavy style of vocals.

    • @dmitryowens5439
      @dmitryowens5439 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      moremetalthanyou71 I sing a little like John Bush mixed with James Hetfield, Chris Cornell and Bon Scott. Just not quite as awesome as those four - ha!

    • @dmitryowens5439
      @dmitryowens5439 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      moremetalthanyou71 And I dig all of those Thrash singers except Mille - his voice is a little too high and screechy for my tastes, and so is Schmier from Destruction. Araya and Cavelera are the sucking best, and Phil Anselmo as well back in his prime years during the 90's. Blythe is just a wannabe-Phil without the range or originality.

    • @Gregbaltzer
      @Gregbaltzer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dmitry Owens I love Kreator, I'm just starting to get into Destruction, but I don't like it when Schmier does those irritating high pitch screams. I enjoy Overkill, but Bobby's vocals can be annoying sometimes too. Sounds like you've got a good voice. James Hetfield isn't the best vocalist in metal, but I wish there were more vocalist like him. I'm not bashing on heavy vocals, I have Gorguts, Napalm Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Emperor, Dark Throne etc. in my collection. I just hate the lack of real traditional metal vocals in metal now. I know a lot of power metal bands use more traditional vocals, but I'm not into power metal. I want to hear some new traditional metal. Oh well, at least the new Iron Maiden album is coming out.

    I remember a few months back, Chris and Shawn released a short snippet of this song in its demo stage, that version had very metalcore like vocals, and was not as well produced as this, and sounded very generic and boring. Reading these comments, i feel like a lot of people listened to that version, and then saw that this video had been uploaded, and went straight to the comment section without pressing play on the now released, completed version of the song, that is not at all boring or generic.

    • @angeleyes6572

      superduperkoolman123 Quite an assumption man...im on my 5th listen now and never ever even knew of or heard the demo version and I like the song but its not groundbreaking by any means...doesn't suck but Ive heard more interesting stuff in thrash metal vein than this. I think if people take it as a song as something that can be sung along with then it does the job...its catchy and memorable and it grooves. I think a lot of what makes metal fans critical of metal stuff in general is that a lot of us are musicians and metal musicians are hard as heck to please. Lots of ego involved and it can be a trap we let ourselves get into to expect something 'new' anytime a metal band releases something. One thing is true...the metal world is bloated with bands, a lot of shit bands too and this idea of something NEW happening in metal is very unlikely. Your Slayer, Testament, Metallica, Voivod's are few and far between. That being said, this is a good band with a solid tune and I can only think with time they'll get even better. In fact if Drover would take some chances and they got a second strong guitarist whose main talent is writing killer riffs they could easily become a top band. Its good stuff and has potential to be really good!

    • @byronstephens464
      @byronstephens464 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chimi Changa I totally agree with you. It's a fantastic song on it's own merits. If this was a band of unknown members I think we would not be so harsh on this song. I love Megadeth and I have always been interested in seeing what ex-members can do separate from the Dave dictatorship. I hear many past influences in this band i.e. Megadeth, Eidolon, Shadows Fall, etc, and I think they should bring in another guitar player like Glen Drover. Chris is already double tracking his guitar and the addition of Glen would IMO bring this band to the next level. It certainly does not suck and I will be buying this from Google Play when it's released, but it has the potential to be so much better. Also, Shawn is a fantastic pocket drummer. He plays to the song, not his ego and his work on Endgame is truly brilliant. I love how he plays on this song and I look forward to hearing what he does on the rest of the album.

    • @daruckus85
      @daruckus85 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      superduperkoolman123 The clip in snippet sound EXACTLY the same on this video. The difference is that you aren't thrown into the chorus so it feels much more appropriate. And as I had mentioned, if you took just the chorus on some megadeth songs and threw them in a snippet people would probably bitch too. This isn't bad, not great, but not bad.

      Maza Kota Have you noticed how many variations those songs have? They key is keeping it interesting. The thing about those songs is that they aren't traditional thrash per se. Classic? Sure, but not what I'd call traditional. This is more traditional sounding in how the song is structured but they drag it for too long without adding much to keep the listener hooked.
