Just had to say: I also planted a small magnolia, last year, in honour of my late dog Panda. She was my best girl. Brought tears to my eyes when I saw Vince's memorial plaque. I hope Panda's magnolia grows as beautifully as Vince's has ♥ Lovely and enjoyable tour :)
Hi there! Oh I'm so sorry about your Panda. This makes me happy that you also planted a magnolia in Panda's memory. That tree will do great, I'm sure of it!! Our Magnolia blooms each year around the time we burried him. Which we had no idea that would happen. We bought the tree in a dormant state, and after it had already bloomed. Its almost Vince's way of saying I'm happy here, and I like this tree! Our pets stay in our hearts forever. They are only with us for a short time, but make the biggest impression on us. Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your video so very much on this cold winter day in Northern California. Looking forward to following your channel. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden.
Lovely garden, perfect colour combinations. Your 'shed' is so beautiful, you would laugh at my garden Shed !! You certainly have a large garden, never a dull moment.
I love your balance of shrubs, perennials and annuals. Your eye for color and texture is truly fabulous. I also live in Massachusetts and am inspired to strive toward the balance that you have so artfully achieved. Thank you!
Hi Ginger! Welcome to my channel, I'm so glad you have found me! I hope you have subscribed and will stick around. Happy to have you. I so appreciate your kind words. I keep trying to have a good balance in the garden. I have started to stay away from getting too many more perrenials (unless they are really low care), and favoring more shrubs and trees etc. The garden is always evolving! Thank you so much for watching, and for your comment.
I never get tired of looking at your garden. Your whole property is absolutely gorgeous. . .and you are so humble. I love your transparency and honesty. Wonderful video hun. . . glad you are enjoying your fall. 💚💛🧡❤💜💙
Hello there, I'm so sorry I missed this comment. Thank you so very much for your kind words. Its been a labor of love, and I enjoy working out in my garden so much. Thanks again!
Hi Betty, For all the things that are doing well, there is always a good amout that aren't doing well. Its part of the process. I was just mourning the loss of of a Jack Frost Brunerra this weekend. Happens to all of us.
I love how you state the month on your video. Often times, I find that it’s hard to tell what month TH-camrs filmed their videos when it’s a year plus old. Knowing the month helps you determine what you can do or expect from your garden. Thanks for all you do.
Hi Karen! Thank you so much for your comment. I do this for my record keeping, so I can refer back to videos of my garden, like a journal. There are times after a long winter that I'm worried about a perrenial not showing up, or a shrub not yet leafing out. This way I can look back to see whether or not it was time yet for that perrenial or plant. Have a great weekend, and thanks for watching.
Love your garden 😍 I to have a space where I call my rehab center where I nurse my clearance plants back to health and spray them for any pests before I plant them in my garden
Hi Joycelyn! Yay, the plant rehab center! We all have a space like that. Isn't it the best feeling being able to nurse a plant back to health?! I love it.
I love the limbing up of the false cypress and the look you get from seeing the actual branches. What a great garden you have with so many plants still in the process of reaching out.

Thank You for this wonderful tour Steph ❤ everything is looking so beautiful and inviting and I cannot wait for the Autumn tour when the leaves turn, your garden will be magnificent 🍂🐿🍂
I love your garden so much Steph! I could spend all day just looking at it! 😍 I love gomphrena too. They are so drought tolerant. I planted some last year and they self seeded and I didn't have to plant any new gomphrena in my flowerbed this year!
That’s fantastic - I am planning to plant some next spring and would like them to come back as well - did you just leave the Gomphrena flowers on in the fall for them to drop and self seed below in the same space??
@@urchinsushi2041 It was a pleasant surprise to see that they self seeded as I pulled out all the annuals in the flowerbed during my fall cleanup. I suppose you could leave them in the ground to see what happens the following spring. 😊
Your garden is looking incredible! The weeping spruce was the perfect choice for that spot and you obviously have the magic touch when it comes to Japanese maples...those 'twigs' have done incredibly well! Just loved seeing that bee going crazy over the anemone too 🌸🐝 And yes to the plant 'waiting area'....I think every gardener needs one of those 🙂
Such an inspiration, I love your color scheme. Boxwood topiary are so cute. Steph, I can't tell that any foliage was damaged earlier, it all looks amazing.
Another great garden tour! I love love the Colorado Blue Spruce - I bought one small but put it in the back of my yard, however, it gets too much shade and it's blue and healthy, but growing slower than it should. Yours is absolutely stunning on the corner of your house 🙂
Hi Robyn! Thank you so much! I absolutely LOVE that tree. I'm heartbroken it will have to come down at some point. My husband keeps telling me that the larger it gets, the harder it will be to handle removing, but I just cant bare getting rid of it yet. Its just too beautiful and hasn't become a problem yet. So i'll give it some more time. The fact that you have it in some shade, might be a good thing! it will keep its size growing slowly.
Your gomphrena is beautiful! I live in zone 6 and was my first year growing them. Wow do they produce a ton of seeds! I'd never guess DRY would be an issue which is WHY I started gardening in the first place, lol. And JUST LIKE THAT my soggy summers became DUST dry! 🤯😂
Hi there! Thank you so much. Wasn't the gomphrena so fun? I also collected some seeds. I agree, I don't think they would survive our zone 6. I had a bunch drop seed also so maybe we'll get some self seeding. I love the candy corn spirea, if you don't have one yet, its a beauty and stays relatively small/compact. Yep crispy year for hydrangeas here also. I hope that dry hot summers arn't our normm now. But it likely is. New Sub and loved your garden and videography! I want the Atomic Purple Gomphrena as a border in my garden. Your video was so serene and peaceful. So happy YT recommended your channel.
I love your garden so much!! We’ve got such a similar style. I love mixing beautiful conifers with Japanese maples along with cottage style flowers. I just started seriously gardening landscape designs last year at our new house that has mature Japanese maples and yes a big blue spruce planted too close to the courtyard brick wall in front of the house. I think it was a landscaper design mistake. They might of thought it too was a dwarf. It’s 15 years old probably 12’ tall and 6-7’ wide. I think it’s been trimmed several times to keep it from getting too large. I love it but it is a large specimen right in front of the wall. So we’re not sure what to do with it either. It takes so long for these beauties to mature. We’re in the same dilemma. You’ve got such a beautiful collection! Great design skills Steph! ❤
Hi Jennifer! Oh wow, I just love your comment, and that we have similar interests in the garden. I love the variety, I think it keeps things interesting, doesn't it? And look we're twins in the bad placement of colorado blue spruces category! Its such a shame that these beauties are planted in less than ideal spots isn't it? I absolutely LOVE this tree, and I'm so sad to think of having to get rid of it at some point. It was totally a rookie mistake on my end, underestimating the growth of a happy conifer. I'm guessing who ever planted it at your house in front of the wall, also probably didn't think it would get so large. They are stunning trees, in the right application. I will no doubt get another to plant in a more appropriate spot since its such a stunning tree. Thanks for watching, and for your comment.

Great video! I want to try growing GOMPHRENA from seed - yours looks AMAZING !! I’ve never done this before - how many seed packs did you use for your border?
so easy from seed! I had 1 pack of seeds. Soaked them in water overnight, then planted the seeds about 8-10" apart to create this thick hedge. So easy, and they just keep going!
Hi Nikki! I ordered it right on the david austin roses website. If i'm going to buy the DA roses, I always order directly from them because they offer a great warranty.
Ok, I did go around and sniff all my butterfly bushes. One called flutterby blue heaven smelled like lilac. All the pugsters smelled “soapy.” A larger one called Prince Charming, a beautiful cherry red, didn’t seem to have any scent. A challenge to my creaky knees but it had to be done.
Hi Dora! lol great work!! sometimes we need to excercise our senses, and our creaky knees. Mine are giving me some grief these days too! a little too much ice cream this summer with my boys, and the scale and my knees let me know! Such is life! I notice my knees bothering me most when its about to rain...guess that our bodies can really tell the weather!! Glad you were able to explore the scents on your butterfly bushes.
Hi there! I used a whole packet of seeds, i had some plants in my shed window boxes, and the rest here in my front walkway border. I soaked the seeds overnight in water, and then planted them out. I spaced the seeds about 8-10 inches apart. Hope this helps.
Hi Rita! Every couple of years I order fine shred hardwood mulch in black. However for touch uos or a refresh I often buy the Scott's earthgro mulch. I try to stock up when they go on sale 5/$10 at the box stores.
Hi Steph, I was wondering how many packs of seeds did you sow for the Atomic Purple gomphrena. Yours look so fantastic, it has inspired me to give it a try. I've never sown seeds before as I hate the indoor starter process, but you said you direct seeded them. Thanks, your garden is beautiful.
Hi Gina, Just 1 pack of seeds! soak them over night and then direct sow them after your last frost has passed. I did mine kinda late in June sometime. But you just plant them direct in soil, and space them about 8-10" apart.
So just a little more info on the gomphrena. Did you sew them directly in the ground? And could I have the name of the plant and provider again please? Was this the annual of the year? It looks heavenly in your garden.
about the gomphrena, yes, I bought them from Baker Creek Seeds, and I'll post the link here for you. They were ewtremely easy to grow! I soaked the seeds in water overnight (I believe that's what the instructions said), and then planted them out about 8-10" apart I sowed all of them, with the exception of a few that I put in my shed window boxes. If too many sprouted in an area, I just thinned them out. They are gorgeous and fill out so well! I hope to collect seeds soon to grow them again next year! Here's the link: www.rareseeds.com/atomic-purple-gomphrena

When you said George I was smiling because my daughter’s name is Stefanie with a f and her husband is George
Hi Amy! Oh how cool!! Isn't that such a coincidence! Also, I absolutely adore the Candy Corn Spirea! Oh yes, and your a fellow MA gardener!!
The gomphrena from the beginning of this video are so so pretty! May I ask, how many plants were there to make it look like that?
Hi there! I used a whole packet of seeds, i had some plants in my shed window boxes, and the rest here in my front walkway border. I soaked the seeds overnight in water, and then planted them out. I spaced the seeds about 8-10 inches apart. Hope this helps.
David Austin has been quoted to say that Olivia Austin is the best rose he's ever produced.
I can see why! Of my few DA Rose's, she's the healthiest one. Olivia Rose Austin is a beauty!
Hi again, what is your mulch favorite?
Just bought gomphrena seeds at wholefoods to direct seed next spring. Can't wait!!!
Hi Gina, Just 1 pack of seeds! soak them over night and then direct sow them after your last frost has passed. I did mine kinda late in June sometime. But you just plant them direct in soil, and space them about 8-10" apart.
@@nekovero93 wow - you won the jackpot!! Wondering if I can find the seed packs in store at my local Whole Foods in northern va? I want to try too!!!
Nice video. What zone is your new dark tall grass? I can’t seem to find a grass that color in my zone 5?

Everything in your garden looks so healthy. What part of the country do you live in? I live in Arkansas and the drought is horrible here.
Hi Annette, Sorry I've just noticed this comment. I'm located in Massachusetts, zone 6b. We had a terrible drought and hot summer in 2022. Hoping it will be better this year.
I think buddleia smells like homemade root beer. :-)
How funny! Isn't it interesting how our senses associate smells with different things?! I love root beer!!
I love your fountain, is it electric?
Hi there, Thank you! Its solar powered. I bought it on Amazon. While I can't find the exact one anymore (its been about 4 years), here are some similar options if your interested: amzn.to/3Gf5Ubz
