I think it looks much better than if you had repainted the whole thing. This vice has character, and is unique. I have a daughter who is 6 and is just starting to get interested in helping dad with my projects. Seeing Jewell gives me hope for the future of the next generations. We need more people excited to create or repair things themselves.
Nice work Jewell! A little tip about mounting a vise is to mount so that the fixed jaw is extended over the edge of the mounting surface so you can clamp a long part vertically.
I love how the vice turned out, looks AWESOME. Jewell is right saying it has a Rat Rod look to it. I do use a small vice just like you are talking about. A matter of fact it is that exact same vice, but when I got mine at a yard sale it looked like it had hardly been used so it is just the factory red paint. I also have a smaller vice mounted to a steel post on to of a tractor rim center. I made it the same height as my vices that are mounted to my workbenches. I can use that one in conjunction with the bench vice to hold larger/ longer pieces as well as moving around the entire shop to hold whatever.
You might want to shorten the front of the plate, or redrill it so the fixed jaw is even with, or slightly overhangs the front of the plate, so you can stand longer stock on end and not get hung up on the plate. I love the finish, really looks nice.
You should have showed her how to put a nut on the bottom bolt and then filled it with weld and then unscrewed it. Very rarely fails,and if it does then grind it flat. Great job fathering.
Maaan been out of loop for quite some time, Jewel grew up, aand VooDoo became older by... having shorter beard 😅 (yes man, you look older now!) Anyway, fancy me, i have same caliber vise-anvil, but mine has a rotating foot, was thinking of building my own worktable-cart, so that ma mum would give me a break to uninstal it from my kitchen counter 😂 Bt the idea of it being on a sleigh-plate sliding is a great idea. When ill build my own workshop ill certainly do it there 😊 1:30 haha, yeah i did use such big vise to unscrew few things 😂 its far superior to french wrench 😂 2:20 oh man, that is a crime what they did :( being able to turn the vise is (at least to me) even more important, that being able to slide it 😢 3:20 ah, have you tried concussion drill set to hammer mode? Also while heating one element, id pour cold water on the other part. In any case i always took the ability to dismount the teeth as "in case tooth breaks" kinda thing and never touched them 3:50 ssssSCARS?!?😢😢😢 oh well, first blood gone, carry on 😂 (sign of veterancy 😊) 6:00 let her cook 😂 J did a good job, especially that cut! 9:30 oh, i thought Jewel would just weld it directly to that plate 13:15 a Cat❤ 14:30 yeah this wont wobble 😊 although i also though you'd add rails that woukd slide in workcounter grooves, but yeah, good clamp and it will save fingers :) 15:15 so fun story, i broke my forearm while cutting trees 3 months ago. Wwhile performing a faceplant, my body did a reverse C manouver on itself. How i did not break my neck is beyond me. For first month since being out of gypsum shell i still had things to hammer down, straighten, flatten. Left hand handled my 10 lb beautifully. But my berely healed right hand hated every bit of holding anything 😂 made my peace a couple of times😂😂 but now that you lead to it, i do make my peace again with this world this one last time. Vise isnt hot, cuz Jewels way hotter 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊🔫
PS: how can Jewel screw her tiny vise so tight, she cant remove it? Can God make unmovable object he cant move? Apparentely yes😮 Meanwhile i broke couple of tools by overtightening them 🥴
