    My son in law and I were just in Bardstown Oct 7 & 8 . It was his first time to visit any distilleries. We toured Makers Mark, where I was a graduating Ambassador, so we got that tour and I dipped 2 bottles with my name on the label and, I also got a bottle of the FAE-02
    Then to Barton, this was probably my 12th visit and tour there, when I pulled down my mask, they recognized me. Their Very Old Barton 100 proof is very good. You have to look around for it at other places. Then to Lux Row, nothing spectacular, but a nice tour. Then the next day to Four Roses, just a tasting, the tours were all booked, I did pick up a bottle of their Small Batch Select. Next was Bulleit and their tour and tasting, their tasting includes some little scent containers and mood lighting. Definitely different and unique. Then on to Buffalo for the Trace Tour, as always a great experience, and I got to say hi to my friend Freddie. I have been to Castle and Key 3 times, their Bourbon I dont think is ready yet, but their gin is good. The were aging the sourced product for Pinhook, I dont know if they still do. My first couple of time to Willet were vastly different than what I could see from your video. The parking lot in front of the distillery was gravel. And the Visitor center was in the same but smaller building, and no curved staircase. Taking a trip now involves so much planning if you want to take tours and the times and logistics all play into it more than ever. But it is still a lot of fun. Thanks for letting me ramble on. I really like your videos and opinions. Oh, I did get to meet Jimmy Russel at WT a couple of years ago and got a hat and bottle signed by him and a picture. Great gentleman.

Wilderness Trail was one of our favorites along with Old Forester, Makers, Angel Envy, Barton and so many more (25 total). We also found some wonderful bottles that we can’t get in Virginia. We enjoyed a visit by Cooper at WT and Noah and Rowan at Willett. A bonus was visiting Smooth Ambler along the way on 64. We live in Indianapolis, so that trip is a quick weekender for us. In Louisville, you certainly missed Peerless...our favorite distillery tour...right in downtown Louisville. Also, Rabbit Hole is within a 5 minute drive of there...so there is that. I wish someone would have told you how awful the 1792 visit is. When we were there last, they weren't doing any type of tour, and the tasting experience was poor at best. And back to other things you missed, when you were at Castle and Key, you were 10 minutes up the road from Woodford. I'm not a big fan, and when last we were there they weren't doing any type of tour. But also close (within 15 minute proximity on the backroads of Kentucky) is Four Roses. Having been so close, I think both of those distilleries might have been worth the effort. I totally agree with you about Willet...love that place. Great video. Thanks.

    How much was the bottle michters? Is it an everyday thing or did you just get lucky?

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like they probably have different whiskeys you can fill yourself from day to day, but this one is there pretty frequently. We were able to sneak in first thing in the morning before they started a tour to fill our own. This is one of our most expensive bottles: $150.

    Hello. Trying to find some information about tours. any information would be helpful

    • @TheBourbonVan

      The best bet is probably to choose a few distilleries in a single area that you'd like to visit, then call them to set up a tour. For instance, Heaven Hill and Willett are very close to one another. Definitely call ahead to schedule your tours.

    How did you like the Toasted Marshmello from Maker's? How does it compare to 46? I can get one but haven't found any info on it.

      @TheBourbonVan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly haven't tried that bottle in quite some time and don't have a 46 on hand to sample it against right now. I think we better give that matchup a try sometime though.

    did you have to do a special tour at michters to get the bottle purschase like that?

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. We were there early before the tours started and they decided they had time to take us back there before it got busy.

    Sorry for commenting on a 2 year old video, but why didn't you bring the camera into the distilleries? I'm planning on doing the trail this summer and one of the things that would have been beneficial is to see more detail of the grounds, what tours are available, what's available in the gift shops and where these places are located on a map (Google Maps to plan a route).

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This was mid-pandemic. There was a glass shortage. Heaven Hill's workers were on strike. Several of the distilleries we wanted to visit weren't open to the public and the gift shops were mostly empty. There's very little we could have shared that would still be useful for planning a trip. We shared our experiences, but there was no point in putting together a guide book that would be outdated the following year.

    How do you fill your own bottle at Michter’s?

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  ปีที่แล้ว

      We just showed up first thing in the morning before the tour groups and asked if they had anything special available. Pretty sure you can pay extra on the tours to fill your own bottle as well.

    Do you need to do a tour or anything to fill a bottle at Michter's?

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We were able to just go in and ask to fill a bottle, but the tours hadn't started yet for the day because we were really early. You probably don't have to be on a tour, but you might have to wait for folks who are on the tour to pour theirs first. Highly recommend getting there right when they open.

    Did you have a tour at michters or did you just walk in? That bottle is through the tour only I assume

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  ปีที่แล้ว

      We got there before the tours started and asked if they had anything special available that day. They suggested we could fill our own bottle before the tours started. I’m guessing once tours start, the wait is considerably longer, but you can likely still fill your own bottle.
