    Where I did my apprenticeship back in the '70s they had zillions of those in the workshops. Electric bill must have been huge.

    I got the inside frost version recently. These are wonderful bulbs! Good quality and very bright! I love the etches on them too!

      Nice find, these old versions are the best! I think these 300 watt bulbs are still made under the GE name but with a horizontal filament and of course made in china.

      @@Parrot175Hello! How much are these, and how many lumens? Thanks. Also, a measurement of the glass vertically would be appreciated if possible.

    Very nice bulbs. At my dads work he has a GIANT wear house and there three HUGE panels full of switches and there roughly 2000 of these exact bulbs in there. And when I say exact I mean same support in the middle and everything. Only two have burnt out over 45 years of being on 6 hours a day. Amazing bulbs. Now I know more about them so thank you parrot175!!!

      Wow, that’s roughly 100,000 hours! Are you sure they are not being dimmed? Either way, that’s incredible! No LED could ever compare.

    Just found 2 of these in some old crime scene lamps that were use to light the scene. The lamps have "Natural Lighting" stamped on the side and there is an alum dome in use as the reflector. Can't wait to plug it in for a few seconds to see how bright these things can get.

    This bulb is really cool. =)

    Nice finds! I love the filament structure with its centre support inside the bulb, much nicer than the later one without the support. GE getting a bit stingy in manufacturing costs! thanks for sharing your video!

    My apologies.... I thought this was the bulb I found... I actually found 2 - 1000 Watt bulbs.... Can't wait to give them a try.

    Jesus, those are bright as the sun. I have one just like these, but very new. I use it as a current limiting device, but the construction is very poor now on these, present day.

    • @Parrot175
      @Parrot175  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed, It's interesting to see how they cut things to reduce costs like removing a filament support. In fact, I'm not even sure if the new ones have a heat shield anymore?

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Parrot175 They do still have the heat shield. Although as you so meticulously pointed out, due to the cost cutting measures, even it is of a questionable quality.

    Where in the world would you use a light bulb that size and that strong of a wattage because no household lamps can support 300watt bulbs

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd have to say these were used in; small shops, spot lights, and outdoor lighting.
      The only lamp holders suited towards the heat of this lamp would've been made of porcelain or ceramic rated for 660W.
      Thank goodness we have more efficient and safer technology.

      Older floor lamps had 3way mogul bulbs that were 300 watts on the high setting.

    Here in the uk I think these were used in theatre lights, Football grounds etc, replaced eventually by High pressure sodium and now LED of course.

    I use one of these 130v 300w (I'm using it on 120v so it's actually 266w) clear ps25 light bulbs base up in my room, it has been used quite a lot, and it doesn't even have any black on it, and I hate LED bulbs, and I like a LOT of light, so I have 1046 watts worth of incandescent light bulbs in my room (yes I actually have over a kW of incandescent light bulbs lol.)
