Fine job on this reel! I haven’t been able to work on reels because of a pinched nerve in my shoulder. Got in a 4000C Daiwa today but didn’t even open the box. I got another Shimano MLZ 60 reel tonight. It is a favorite of mine. It’s about the same size as a Daiwa 7000C and are usually very smooth reels. Got a great deal but that makes me nervous. Hopefully I’ll be able to work on them again later this week. Right now it’s just too painful!

Hi Dennis, is there chance you could explain how to open up the drag system on a Penn torque 100 Star darg reel? 👍

I don't have that reel, but it looks straight forward from the schematic diagram. You can get a look at it here www.mysticparts.com/Assets/images/pennparts/schematics/trq25b.pdf It actually looks a lot like the Penn Squall inside - Thanks for asking - Dennis

when i do a wee service i don't have reel grease or oil i use 3 in one oil and Vaseline or petroleum jelly will that do any harm tae the reel i'm in Scotland keep up the good work thanks Rab

Thanks Rob - They won't harm the reel, but may not help it as much as the fishing reel greases and oils. The vaseline is not a dense and will evaporate sooner Thant fishing reel greases. The 3 in 1 oil may not protect as much in marine environs. That just means you will need to do your service more frequently. Most manufacturer's sell small combination kits of grease and oil for a few Euros. It is worth the price. - Dennis
