    If Tom Stoltman is a one trick pony then I applaud him, because to win three WSM titles is a hell of a trick. Positively Houdini-esque.

    I don't understand why Tom gets so much hate the last months. People seem to forget that he is autistic. That's not a small thing to deal with.
    3x Wsm, 2 times second at wsm, second at Rogue, third at SMOE and at Arnolds, 3x Britains, etc. Some People act like he has done nothing. 😅
    No hate to Hooper, he is already a Legend, but their Rivalry isn't over.

    • @scannerbarkly
      @scannerbarkly หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      I think people are bitter and feel like he didn't do enough for them. It's a bit problem with modern sports, people hang their entire personality on one guy/team/gal and as long as they are winning, they feel superior. I think lots of people figured Tom would roll up four of five WSM and be in GOAT contention and because he has stared to struggle for various reasons they are now bitter at him instead of supportive.
      Lad seems like a good dude, it's a shame people are being so cunty to him. When he nabs his next wins they'll flock back to him and pretend they loved him all along.

    Athletes at peak for show time versus athlete at peak every day.
    Part of having that luxury is not having to work a job.
    If you’re a pro at this (less than 10 of them out there I reckon) and you’re not in peak condition at all times (post comp and injuries aside) that’s on you and the results that come are on you.
    I think Luke R is spot on yknow, if you’re writing essays in the comments section of TH-cam videos you need to look at your life.
    I will begin to look at my life.

    If they were all in arenas they'd all seem too similar. WSM being in a weird exotic settings is kind of the whole adventure vibe and mystique that goes with it. It's what sets it apart but yeah there's defintiley UK settings that could fit with that narrative too. We have some utterly stunning backdrops here where the whole completing the "quest" of the WSM could be more than done justice to. Proper laughed out loud btw at this tonight, nice one Pa 👍

    It's easy to see why people think Mitch is egotistical, and he is to some degree since everybody is, but to my mind, he is a combination of very analytical and candid, which doesn't preclude his being analytical about his own form and abilities.

    15:31 people need to understand that Giants Live, OSG, Rogue, Arnold's etc... are all businesses and the best way to grow a sport is with competition. Not just competitions for the fans to see, but competition between business'. Having been to many of the Giants shows its not only an epic show it's clear to see that they are bringing new people through not only for the men but the Women's divisions to!

    • @gaia8840
      @gaia8840 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Frankly brian is incredible, but mitch does seem to participate in a loooot of events back to back and often on podium which is not common for strongmen especially knowing how "small" mitch is for a strongman. But just the fact that brian retired on a win againts mitch is incredible. like, i would have never thought he would be able to do that cl, glad to see such a legen go out on top and due to his own choice

    • @pagit85
      @pagit85 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think some people also don't consider that if they think Z is a goat (he is ofc) but by default that makes Brian one too because he was the guy beating him the most in his prime. Titles went back and forth with them

    Tom could win six WSM titles. 100% switched-on Tom, I think, could do everything Mitch can do physically if not better, but Mitch has the piranha brain. It's like Magnus ver and Badenhorst. Look at them side by side. But now guess who has the 4 WSM titles. Gerrit said it in Mauritius: "Magnus has it here" and he pointed to his brain...

    Maybe Tom has some mental connection with WSM that put him in the right state of mind, great desire to peak for it. He’s said he wants to win it more than anyone. Watch out, he said he’s going to learn to peak for other competitions. Tom can beat Hooper, but for now Hooper is on a roll.

    There is a one trick pony in strongman and it's Bobby Thompson. Standing still and pulling weight off the floor he's fine - most of the time. But as soon as Bobby is asked to move with weight he'll limp off holding his arm. Every fecking time. I don't know how he keeps getting into the big comps. He can do one thing but that doesn't stop him having tickets on himself and talking himself up in the promo interviews. "It's a log and, well, I'm Bobby Thompson". Can't help but roll my eyes every time I see him.

    “So much money” 2024 was my first WSM experience, I remember it being totally affordable, maybe $300CDN for the whole week, one of the best weeks of mine and my moms life, it was so much fun. The stands were HOT and it was tough days honestly, but good fun all in; also i disagree with the other guys comment about assigned seating, because there was so much turnover there was always somewhere to sit and to view from different angles was always fun, they had lots of great views of the “stage”, ocean, city, it was great, and we often always got our preferred seat anyways, people were always coming and going.

    Id say 2023/4 myrtle beach was basically in “an arena”, as far as; it was outside but all events occurred within the little “stage” (ie. no plane/bus pulls, water events, etc), and likewise with seated stands around it. Before they would use the environment as good TV but with Myrtle Beach lately they’re not using the setting anymore for the lore of it, just keeping it within the box. So with that style, an arena show would occur naturally in that type of format

    I think it's ok to like or dislike athletes based on their personalities, how they present themselves etc... But I think the thing that many of "strongman fans" are forgetting is that it's ok to dislike someone, and still have respect for them. I'm Canadian, I should be cheering Mitch, but I'm not a huge fan because of his personality. However, I have huge respect for his ability, his thought process and preparation and his insight and knowledge. In a short time he has risen to be one of the best of all time. And that deserves a huge amount of respect and admiration. Keyboard warriors need to learn that like and respect are different things.

    I don't get the hate for all these giants live shows, been a strongman fan for 10 years and just this year I went to Europest strongest man and the world open.
    Both shows I found to be fantastic, watching guys that you've seen training and competiting for years come out and perform was surreal (even if some weren't in 100% shape). Even the Mitchell hooper dominance for the world open didn't bother me, as other athletes did insane feats, Ondreji Fojtu 210 log, Luke Richardson arm over arm, paddy Hanes deadlift, boudreaults throwing e.t.c. I know the main reasons for these shows are to see who the best overall strongman is, but each strongman athlete is so unique and following there own story is what makes it so entertaining for me as a strongman fan. Can't wait to go to another show next year.

Yes, he's smart about competition and training technique. If you want to watch a sport with purely strict, static strength, watch powerlifting. And have fun being bored to tears. Hooper will have to break before he can be beaten. He can only beat himself. Exactly right what you think about Hooper.
    True too what you say about Eddie. He is an alien too. Unfortunately,
    Did you see Eddie Hall rupture his triceps doing seated do presses with two 100 kg dbs. He was pressing with Biby.
    Eddie at a lighter weight, training for a fight, not having lifted heavy dbs for something like a year, he seemed stronger than Biby.
    I feel terrible for Eddie. He called himself stupid, but carried on with the video with a smile.
    WSM has heats and has a tradition of being outside. It’s set for television.

  • @christopherroberts2500
    @christopherroberts2500 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    It's unfair to call Tom a one-trick pony - but there is certainly an asterisk after his name when it comes to 'greatest of all time,' or even 'greatest in current era.' Worlds, as prestigious as it is, has the heats seat-up, meaning no athlete is going against the entire field. This isn't in the case in the ASC, TSC, or any of the Giants Live competitions. Tom tends to do quite badly in any competition where he's against everyone, not a select group of athletes.
    His international win rate is poor, and he had a reputation growing of half-assing competitions, coming in underprepared, off-cycle, etc. Yes, his performances at WSM are phenomenal - but you can't JUST have those, can you? Until Tom wins an ASC, Strongest Man on Earth, or beats everyone at a Giants Live or two, he'll always have this reputation clouding his name.
    Given how we've been here every year for the past three or so years, I reckon Tom, with his coaching change, has next year to turn it around. If we see the same thing again, then his reputation will be more or less set in stone.

    Since Mitch started competing in Strongman, he has brought more fans. What you don't really know is that Mitch became a rich guy since he won more than 20 competitions in the last 2 years

    Nah Pa people aren’t mixing up those words, it’s just what people say. Your totally right about the use of the word, we should also all start saying the strictest strength athletes instead of the most statically strong
    In any case Mitch is a mutant and Eddy was a mutant, but Mitch is a better strongman and Eddy was stronger by far. Eddy was also insanely good at repping stuff out, he did have a motor when he could get reps pumped out quick
    For a big gym lifter Eddy was still quite good with his tech on log and especially the clean

    Having WSM in UK may stir up too much publicity and in turn might get bad press as it won't be aired for 8-9 months. 🤐👊👍

    13:03 i vehemently disagree with the comment. I like that the seats were provided and i could buy a ticket; however, i do wish they had assigned seating. Not being able to leave our seats for fear of losing them.

    I'm enjoying this format. Worked well with having Luke on.
    Bit disappointed that WSM is returning to Sacremento. I know there's a load of contractual/money reasons but it would be great to see it somewhere else. If it goes some place off the beaten track with dodgy food and water, Mitch getting the wild shites may be the only chance other athletes have of winning.

    The only issue i see with mitch at least here in canada Pa, is that he doesn't do any Pro circuit comp, we never saw him at CSM or NAS where it's top 6 NA vs some of the Top in the US. And when Max won CSM hooper fans just shat on max saying you won because Mitch wasn't there. Mitch wasn't there, end of story. But he's a phenomenal athlete. But J-F is still the GOAT in canada

    Tom is of course great. I am looking forward to him winning a couple more big international titles to fill out his resume. The comparison to Brian from neilshoddy01 is oddly misguided. Shaw competed in and won a lot of international shows when he was younger. He only started targeting only WSM and Arnolds later in his career. He has won 3 Giants Lives, 6 Strongman Super Series, 3 Arnolds (4 second place finishes), and 4 WSM.

    WSM is a CBS production which I guess is why it's now an American fixture. Either that or it's rigged for travelling so Hooper gets an unfair advantage, being such a one trick pony (always winning every show).

    If Hooper was as good as Matt Ragg he'd say: "I'm clearly good enough for top 5" and no one would care 😂

    One trick pony...lol. I'm getting closer to age 50 by the day and I've spent over 20 years in Strongman trying to figure out THAT "one trick" to get me there...lol. It is Friday night and I just finished training Atlas Stones at midnight trying to find that "one trick". Is it the same trick that Mariuz and Eddie had where they could win WSM yet perform "poorly" at The Arnold? Gosh what I'd give to be THAT pony. Doggone it Pa' I'd love to sit next to you one day and actually be "me" on camera :)

    As I keep typing and Mitch says himself, diet matters massively, just look at any high level sport, unfortunately strongman is still in the "Look how much I can eat" Camp. This has to change or Mitch and anyone else who comes at strongman from a professional sporting backhround will take all the medals

      Could be that x-factor. Thor has been on the vertical diet for a long ass time and now Mitch.
      I love the stoltmans but their diet, especially when they travel isn't the same quality.
      Shaw used to bring/buy microwaves or hotplate to cook his food as well.
      That could be the difference between the elite athletes and everyone else.

Secondly Thor is a stronger STRICT presser than mitch by alot.hes repped 180kg strict, and 200kg on a olympic bar. I doubt mitch can strict press 180kg...Eddie could do it in his sleep
