Aaron was one of the founding members of Underoath, he left the band in 2010, was replaced by Norma Jean’s drummer, during his in between Underoath period he played for Paramore for a while, he’s now back with Underoath
I like how you describe and articulate why drummers are good when they do simple things. You get into a lot of depth regarding his transitions and why they fit. Even though it seems theres not a lot going on, your dialogue is yet very descriptive
Aaron is the only original member of this band (starting at the age of 16) and lead clean vocal singer along with one of the principal songwriters so I was surprised his singing and playing was not commented on. Also this song is off of their first record which is as you noted very poppy with hardcore influences- they have said they were inspired by glassjaw and Jimmy eat world when they were writing this album. As you said in this video he played with paramour but that was only after he left this band for a brief moment- this band is his bread and butter. You should do another video of him playing either In Regards to Myself or Writing On the Wall from their album Define The Great Line which is much more in line with their post- hardcore sound and also reached Number 2 on the billboard 200 in 2006. His drumming is much more progressive on that record while also suiting the needs of the song. Thanks for doing a video of one of my favorite drummers from my favorite band. Listen to Define The Great Ljne and Lost in the Sound of Separation they are both great albums!
i dont know nothing about drumming but when i watch this video on youtube i notice what he did at 6:10 i really liked and he's my favorite drummer just because the way he hits so f'ing hardcore
Underoath really great post hardcore band w sum amazing and meaningful work they presented for their fans, I fell in love w them ever since I was maybe 11-13 the most important
I’d love to see you react to Ronald Bruner Jr. The video where he plays “it’s on” with George Duke at the Java jazz fest in 2010 has such a memorable drum solo in it.
I'd love to see you do anothet video on Aric Improta, but him playing through one of his Night Verses songs. My number one suggestion would be Earthless (and maybe do the full band playthrough to see what the other members are doing, too), or No. 0 if you want an actual live playthrough, but any of his playthroughs work! Also, can we take a moment to point out the keyboardist in Underoath? He's going insane (a little too insane if you ask me lol)
Just came across your channel and one of the only reaction channels I've subscribed to. A few I'd love to see, though won't find many drum cams most likely. Thanks for all the work and great reactions. Sara Lund (Unwound) Brendan Canty (Fugazi) Grant Hart (Hüsker Dü) Martin Lopez (Opeth) Ben Koller (Converge)
Junkdrummer TV just a lil request. I would love to see your analysis of either “the fourth color” or “crumbling castle” from Gizzard live at kexp. No pressure! 😂 thanks man!
I would love to see you check out Joseph Arrington or Donovan Melero. Both have been in multiple bands and Joseph and Donovan actually were in a band together as Donovan was not the drummer in that band but the frontman, a job he has in every band, including the ones where he drums.
Love the video! I don’t know if I would have reacted to this song. Great song, but you should definitely check out in regards to myself, writing in the walls, or it’s dangerous business walking out your front door
Dude he was making this music at the same time Travis barker was. You can’t write off his talent as somebody that’s copying that fuck. Lol this is a 16 year old song
Dance Gavin Dance is a must. They cover plenty of styles and even shift in the middle of songs at times. They have a lot of drum cam vids, but I'd lean on covering Lemon Meringue Tie or Strawberry Swisher Pt. 3. Can't go wrong with any track though.
If you’re taking comment suggestions, then Darkside from Mgła is one you should check out. Very creative drummer, think you’ll like him. There’s two main drum cams of him, Exercises in Futility II and V. Five is him doing real jedi shit, kinda overshadows how solid Two is.
They took down the Nick D'Virgilio track, so had to scrounge to find him singing & playing- th-cam.com/video/gNuR1LTySvM/w-d-xo.html sort of in the prog-funk-rock vein.
I wish you would have done something off their first album “the act of depression” it doesn’t really fit in any genre and was very original drumming. A blackened deathcore/metalcore sound but with some grind influences thrown in along with some hardcore influence too
ok. gotta cover for my man here since i dont see that hes commented. whitechapels alex rudinger when a demon defiles a witch. heres a few more...alex grind, pete sandoval, donald tardy, scott travis, paul bostaph, robert sweet, mike andrejko
He probably could play in a Bonham style if he wanted to. Seems like a pretty capable drummer. I’m sure you would agree there’s enough Bonham clones out there though. Lol Do we really need one more? 😄
Please do something from their album Define The Great Line next time! Missed opportunity, this is very simple stuff for him from their early career and not representative of his full ability
“Everything is open in the drum fill.” Sick advice thanks. By the way, Aaron is a ridiculous drummer. Listen to his beat on “Come Along” by The Dangerous Summer. Aaron is also a good singer.
Late to the party commenting on this one. Don't know if you realized it or not,but he is the second (lead) vocal on this song. Which is why he was playing so much "meat and potatoes" ... His style is one of the best from that genre, but this song doesn't do him justice, there are way better videos of him. You should check out some of his other stuff even if you don't do another reaction video. example: th-cam.com/video/gD6cIy6UzjY/w-d-xo.html
Should do a bit more research, he and underoath have been one of the most formative drummers and bands in the post hardcore scene, deserves more respect than calling it Travis Barker esq or producer drumming.
There are some way better videos of him. One of the most impressive things is he sings just as well as he plays the drums. He is amazing and my favorite drummer of all time.

I don't think you realized he is all their clean vocals, not just some background vocals
Spencer also does clean vocals
Spencer does almost half of the clean vocals on this though. Same on the track
@@JoeLaFon3 just recently. Aaron originally does all clean vocals before.
@@JackMihoff6969 In this song they split clean vocal duties, both live currently and in the studio version from 2004!
@@JackMihoff6969 Are you sure? I've been watching live videos of Spencer doing the second cleans for years and years. Since like 2009
Aaron was one of the founding members of Underoath, he left the band in 2010, was replaced by Norma Jean’s drummer, during his in between Underoath period he played for Paramore for a while, he’s now back with Underoath
You forgot he had that band "the almost" where he played guitar and vocals
@@ahetzel9054 shoot you're right!
@@ahetzel9054 I loved that album. That summer cruising in my trans am with the almost was fun.
Didn’t know he was the drummer for para more in between, I see why para more is a band I kinda liked back in the day too
Haha Aaron talks about how much he loves 90s alt rock so that’s cool that you were able to pick up on that influence in his playing
Aaron's ride cymbal *chuckles* im in danger
"that's travis barker as hell" nah, that's aaron gillespie, mah boi 🤟🏼
Travis barker cant even reach this level lol
Excuse me my good sir. You put some GD respect on Aarons vocals!
Aaron has that off beat syncopated feel, I love his style
Also worth mentioning that this song/album came out in 2004 when Aaron was 21.
You should do “Writing On The Walls “ by him (same band). I think that would a better song for you to react. :)
Best one my favorite song
Definitely need to do this one. Would be a way better one.
Singing like he does while spazzing on his kit at the same time is just not a normal drummer thing. It's awesome.
He’s singing too!!! Aaron is a true talent!! Not just background singing but he’s featured
Sick!! Love this drum cam video and was waiting for you to get to that epic fill
I like how you describe and articulate why drummers are good when they do simple things. You get into a lot of depth regarding his transitions and why they fit. Even though it seems theres not a lot going on, your dialogue is yet very descriptive
That's what I'm going for. Thank you so much!!
Love how much he loves all those fills around 6:00 and they're improvised!

Drummer has great fluidity and maintains body momentum. Great showman.
I wish it was a song from Define the Great Line, but Aaron is sick in any context!
The song is called "A Boy Brushed Red, Living In Black And White."
Underoath really great post hardcore band w sum amazing and meaningful work they presented for their fans, I fell in love w them ever since I was maybe 11-13 the most important

Bro, literally anything from Matt Greiner of August Burns Red is money.
That's real. They just dropped a new track tonight called Standing In The Storm. So sick!
Miss Dallas a lot
Aaron started drumming in the 90s, so makes sense lol

great review. Aaron is THE DRUM guy for me
I love how you summed it up at the end. I won’t say anything cause I don’t wanna spoil it. Lol great analogy though. You are a wise man.
Thank you!!

Would love to see a video on Achilles Preister of hanger
I mean to be fair Underoath started in 1997 so could say that's where the 90s vibes are from

React to Matt Greiner from August Burns Red playing Paramount
Remember he is singing a lot during this too
you should look out connor denis, theres videos of young connor practicing with aaron, he clearly takes a lot of inspiration from underoath

Can you do tre cool? I would also like to see a video of you reacting to Lars when Metallica was at the top of their game in the 80s.
Oh yeah
Aaron's most complex song is easily "breathing in a new mentality."
I don’t think so, and I’m not a great drummer at all. The intro beat is hard to figure out, but the rest isn’t.
Devil Driver- Not All Who Wander our Lost(Drums)(groove metal)
