Sometimes when I am in the mood I turn on this channel during the night and watch these raw videos. To me, even though I am seeing buildings long past their glory days, it relaxes me.

Definitely looks to be 70's motif at the Sundowner with the orange carpet, and look of the television. Love these places, truly locked in time.

From what I found online, the Road Runner Motel was raided by police a couple of years ago and something like half a mil in marijuana plants was seized.

The second motel was probably abandoned within the last few years. You could hear the low battery warnings on the smoke detectors, and those are pretty recent detectors

Nevada has over 600 ghost towns. Most are abandoned from mines not striking it rich and the rest are failed 'desert playground' attempts. The military bases nearby Tonopah are the only thing keeping that town from extinction.

As one who spent time in motels, back in the '60s when they were a welcome place to spend a night during a trip, these two took me back---minus the vandalism and dirt, of course. My folks and I visited Yellowstone late in June of '67 and found the mountain roads with a foot or more of snow alongside the roads going in. Old Faithful blasted half-heartedly, late, and sleet was pelting down as we ran for the van. On the way out, we experienced all forms of precipitation, and were lucky to find a spacious motel room on the outskirts of Bozeman, MT. Slept like a baby with rain pouring down all night, so I remember it fondly. Free coffee and hot chocolate in the morning, too!

What a contrast between two deserted motels: the first one had a tranquil quality to it, I found it to be a peaceful setting while the second motel has a very different and bad feeling to it. I know it's dated but I imagine there are people who would like some of the furniture from the first place, maybe even because it's so dated! The furniture from the second place: who knows what's been done on or around it; best to leave that alone.

I think crackheads usually live close to civilization in order to panhandle, steal, and buy crack. That Roadrunner Motel seemed way out there; was it close enough to some town to make it attractive to crackheads?

lol I have stayed in that motel. I used to do some desert racing & stopping there makes for a nice, easy 1/2 day drive to Reno. We also felt safer having a race car on the trailer in a small town. lol I love old motels like that. They are cheap, no frills, kinda nostalgic & you can park right outside you door. That was a long time ago. I feel old now.

I'll be darned if I don't think that's the motel my mother, aunt and I stayed in in 1971 on our way from Waco, Texas to Los Angeles. We had been in Las Vegas earlier in the day, then visited Death Valley Scotty's Castle and came on into Tonapah. We were upstairs with my room on the right end as you're looking at the motel and Mother and Aunt Mary's next to mine. That AC unit in the back wall was the noisiest thing when the compressor kicked on you ever heard--I think you could have heard it all the way to Waco.

The Roadrunner didn't close until late 2014. It was a druggie place long before it closed, and several shootings and knifings took place in the 10 years before it closed. Looks like the same people are now living in it for free. This is not a place I would have picked to hang around and explore.

Brings back childhood memories of Mammoth Cave in the early 80s, staying just outside the Cave in Cave City, and in walking distance of Guntown Mountain, there was a Jerry's restaurant that had thee best "vacation" food possible.
