Not true. In India and China during the Bronze Age there were many philosophers delving into the nature of reality and asking about existence. However, instead of just thinking about it, they developed mental techniques to examine the issue directly, experientially. Their findings were, and still are, way ahead of anything in the West. Only now are sciences such psychology and neurophysiology beginning to appreciate the depth to which these ancient sages understood consciousness and its relationship to that which we call reality.

They're exceptionally well-scripted, but I do notice he uses some of the video snippets many times (for the example, the slavery clip). But it must be difficult to find copyright-free material for multiple videos, and he seems to do a pretty good job.

Very true. Unfortunately, not all people living in all countries have developed their cognitive reasoning that transcends dogmatism and close-mindedness. I used to be what that's like. That's why I show myself grace for my past and towards whomever is still stuck in this paradigm, for it takes time for the mind to evolve and take in responsibility for each own's sovereignty, authority, and autonomy of thought and being. Religion comes from a place of need... A feeling of personal limitation and lack of understanding. Excellent summary. I read an article saying it's predicted that religion worldwide will not decrease any time soon. It's sad that so many educated people who seem decent still think they need religion. It shows a lack of respect for human intelligence.
If you think religion doesn't make sense any more, try reading something like the Buddhist Lankavatara Sutra, or maybe the Zen teachings of Huang Po. In these texts, Buddha and subsequent Zen masters discuss the nature of reality and consciousness. What they have to tell us about these things is essentially that materialism and rationalism cannot reach into the true origin of reality, nor do they help when it comes to understanding existence itself. Look into the Eastern traditions, and you will find a depth of philosophy and knowledge that easily matches that of the Greeks and subsequent Western thinkers. Far more importantly, the realisations that have arisen are not based on just thinking about reality, but rather via direct experience of such. In order to understand reality, consciousness, etc., it is necessary to know who, or perhaps, what, is asking the question. In the East, their traditions give you routes whereby anyone can explore these depths. Do not confuse 'religion' with the Abrahamic paths - there is far more to explore than the myths created in the Near East.
I've never tried to squash anyone's belief in the existence of God, even though I am 99% sure that there isn't one. The belief in an all powerful and loving god can provide direction, hope, and comfort to those who need it, heck I've even caught myself talking to a god that I'm pretty sure isn't there. Makes sense to me, well some religions :) There's the potential for people helping each other, harmony, social, meditation, less craving for consumption and lots more besides. These can be done without a religion but typically not as cohesively. However, some religions have guilt and can lead to "I'm right, you're wrong" bigotry, rather than tolerance and acceptance. Buddhism has a lot going for it! (different people will define "religion" differently. Buddhism involves faith, though not blind faith and there isn't the idea of an external creator god).

The fundamental issue I see with critics of organized religion, is they assume it is supposed to make sense or be based in science. Neither is the case now and never has been the case.

Free will doesn't explain earthquakes and cancer, yes. And even when questioned about people committing heinous acts upon innocent people, the free will argument doesn't work there either. Having free will means people are responsible for their own decisions and actions. That doesn't explain why God doesn't physically stop them from completing those actions. If he did stop it, no one's free will was messed with. They still did what they did, until they were stopped.
The issue I see with this point of view presented is, that humans without religion seem to also fall prey quite easily to ideologies instead of religion. So the masses usually are not that critical about what they are taught by those in power. Things like the insane woke movement could not be refuted by logic, it was highly emotionalised. Not true. In India and China during the Bronze Age there were many philosophers delving into the nature of reality and asking about existence. Very true. Unfortunately, not all people living in all countries have developed their cognitive reasoning that transcends dogmatism and close-mindedness. I used to be what that's like. That's why I show myself grace for my past and towards whomever is still stuck in this paradigm, for it takes time for the mind to evolve and take in responsibility for each own's sovereignty, authority, and autonomy of thought and being. It's an elevated mindset opposite of surrendering their mind towards someone other than you in a form of worship.

Excellent summary. I read an article saying it's predicted that religion worldwide will not decrease any time soon. It's sad that so many educated people who seem decent still think they need religion. It shows a lack of respect for human intelligence.
If you think religion doesn't make sense any more, try reading something like the Buddhist Lankavatara Sutra, or maybe the Zen teachings of Huang Po. In these texts, Buddha and subsequent Zen masters discuss the nature of reality and consciousness. What they have to tell us about these things is essentially that materialism and rationalism cannot reach into the true origin of reality, nor do they help when it comes to understanding existence itself.
Look into the Eastern traditions, and you will find a depth of philosophy and knowledge that easily matches that of the Greeks and subsequent Western thinkers. Far more importantly, the realisations that have arisen are not based on just thinking about reality, but rather via direct experience of such.
In order to understand reality, consciousness, etc., it is necessary to know who, or perhaps, what, is asking the question. In the East, their traditions give you routes whereby anyone can explore these depths.
Do not confuse 'religion' with the Abrahamic paths - there is far more to explore than the myths created in the Near East.

I've never tried to squash anyone's belief in the existence of God, even though I am 99% sure that there isn't one. The belief in an all powerful and loving god can provide direction, hope, and comfort to those who need it, heck I've even caught myself talking to a god that I'm pretty sure isn't there. There's the potential for people helping each other, harmony, social, meditation, less craving for consumption and lots more besides. Free will doesn't explain earthquakes and cancer, yes. And even when questioned about people committing heinous acts upon innocent people, the free will argument doesn't work there either. Having free will means people are responsible for their own decisions and actions. That doesn't explain why God doesn't physically stop them from completing those actions. If he did stop it, no one's free will was messed with. They still did what they did, until they were stopped.
The issue I see with this point of view presented is, that humans without religion seem to also fall prey quite easily to ideologies instead of religion. So the masses usually are not that critical about what they are taught by those in power. Things like the insane woke movement could not be refuted by logic, it was highly emotionalised.

We now know more about the cosmos than we did when the Bible was written. We know that God would have had to created trillions of stars and planets, not just Earth and our sun. We know that most those planets are dead and inhospitable to life, which does not make sense as a plan for an all-powerful God. We know that the universe is about 14 billion years old, and that even our own sun is about halfway between its birth and death. That should have been plenty of time for God to redeem his creation in accord with His plans. We know now that our sun will expand as it dies, and eventually boil away our oceans, which is inconsistent with the Biblical assurance that God will "dry every tear". The final "Amen" is a cessation of an improbable, temporary existence. It is not as comforting, but it is reality, and we should deal with it.

Christ is an actual historical figure that is found in the writings of the Romans, Greeks, North Africans and Jews. The account of Christ death, but the stories of his resurrection have been examined since the time of his death and resurrection. Hundreds, if not thousands of people claimed to have seen him post crucifixion; and the Romans were experts in ensuring their convicts died. Those people were willing to go to their deaths over their beliefs. According to J.Warner Wallace and other historians, Christianity has been the major influencing factor on society in the areas of getting rid of slavery, promoting education, science, medicine, social programs for the poor, widows and orphans. Nowadays you have people in very anti-Christian societies who are having hundreds if not thousands claiming they are becoming Christians because they have had visions or dreams of Jesus.
Anywhere society has gotten rid of God, has become a dystopian nightmare. Communistic nations that killed God in their nations suffered exactly what Nietzsche was afraid of: a bloodbath of violence never seen before. Communism killed 100 million people in less than 100 years. The world is now past 1.5 billion abortions since 1975. 1. treat their co-human beings with love, kindness, and respect as written in Matthew 22: 39

2. honor and obey Jesus Christ as their loving, kind, and merciful Master and Heavenly King in their obedience to what's written in Matthew 28: 18

clearly the LOVING, KIND, RESPECTFUL, and SUBMISSIVE persons on earth
who
are worthy and deserving of the Sovereign GOD's favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death not in heaven but on a safe and peaceful Earth without LIARS, slanderers, traitors, perverts, murderers, and deceitful persons as written in Revelation 21: 3, 4, 8
and
the teachings of Jesus Christ about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" written in Luke 4: 43 and John 11: 25, 26 are the guarantee
that
all the LOVING, KIND, RESPECTFUL, and SUBMISSIVE persons on earth
who
died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, King David, Jesus Christ's Followers and disciples, and many others
will
definitely be RESURRECTED back to life in the right and proper time so they can happily and abundantly live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "KINGDOM of GOD"

There are good arguments against irreligion, modern secular society is very nihilistic. Estonia would be a country that is majority atheist which is doing well. Sweden and especially Czechia would be example of successful atheist countries which still fall short in a lot of ways compared to Estonia. Czechia is deeply nihilistic and perverted. Sweden has the pc mind virus, though it is moving in a more sane direction.
The true religion will continue to make sense for those who really undestand its principles.

I had never given the question of religion and God, or gods, a thought until one day…a christian (who I had labelled as a crazy) told me I was troubled (which I was) and that I needed Jesus. I avoided this guy from then on but it turned out he was right.
I finally tried out the advice contained in the above psalm and found it to be true. 35 years and nothing has remotely changed my mind.
As long as birth and death are relevant God is relevant.🙂
