Since then we've had the Maastricht Treaty which further eroded our sovereignty, John Major the then PM at the time promised a referendum on this treaty, but reneged on it. We had the Lisbon Treaty which Gordon Brown signed behind closed doors. Then in 2016 the people voted to leave the EU venting their frustrations on the EU becoming a Federalist super state.
