"...at the ripe old age of 50?"
50? That woman is only 50, and she's playing little old lady games and trying to move in on her grown children? At 50, she should still be in her prime! She should be independent and self-supporting. She should have her own life, her own job, her own car. And she should NOT be playing the old and decrepit, pathetic and feeble game. She needs a psychiatrist, not a DIL she can treat like a servant. If she really sold her house, she can use the money to pay rent on a small apartment. The crap she's pulling is a prime example of how to make your adult children hate you -- not to mention your in-laws!

Oh boy, that "Poor me, I'm a persecuted victim, so I can do whatever I want because it's justified." I've heard that attitude from a bunch of groups and such as an excuse for their horrible behavior. It's one of a few different entitlement attitudes I've heard about. There's the classic, I'm so much better than everybody else so I deserve special treatment and can do whatever I want, and then there's the I'm a victim so I deserve special treatment and can do whatever I want. They're seemingly opposite starting points and yet they end up with the same entitled attitude.

I will never understand the women who become obsessed with their sons to the point like this but I've always wondered why no one bothers to get them help to let their kids live their own lives. It almost makes me glad that my "adoptive-mother" passed years ago. She would have forced me to either still living at home, basically rent blackmail, or demand to have access to my apartment. Sadly I live in the south so even saying to my landlord "Do not let this person in my house" would fall on deaf ears cause the mentality here is "but they're family"

    • @JCC_1975

He paid rent, did the yardwork, helped his mom with any heavy lifting in regards to housework, and car pooled with his father to work until he retired. He had great respect for their wisdom and guidance.

This is a real problem because of the "it's family" mentality. The only real solution is to get a restraining order and prosecute. Of course getting a restraining order means proving that the family member is a real threat to your safety or is abusing you in some way. Proving harassment or proving threatening behavior can be difficult unless you have video and audio evidence or something like letters or text messages. I also have known of hunting accidents that ended up solving some issues that could not be legally handled. I can think of at least 3 individuals who were wife beaters who died in "hunting accidents" that most people don't believe were accidents.

I didn't even have to say anything, the judge told her he could look at us and tell she was a liar and I got my restraining order. Life time, not a few months or years. I couldn't believe it. That was so long ago. I told her in court on record when the judge asked if I wanted to say anything that even though I've never fought back that that was the last time she'd ever put her hands on me or I'd beat her like some stranger who attacked for no reason.

Plus, if they already tried to live with her once and BOTH of them can’t stand sharing living space with her then they obviously aren’t going to want to repeat that. Terrible MIL has already proven herself incompatible with both of them.
Her actions after 19 minutes into the video, are designed to make everyone hate her and it will probably work. Is she too stupid to realize she’s doing that to both of them?
Around 25 minutes in, I’d have sued her and pressed charges too because she crossed the line and it’s one that should NEVER be crossed. Nice act of god kind of karma and the end.

I know in these stories, it increases the drama when pushy MIL wants to move in. But if at all possible, an ADU (accessory dwelling unit) would give MIL her own tiny apartment without having her under foot 24/7. My house has a MIL apartment.
We moved in with the in laws to help out when my MIL was dying of cancer. On her deathbed, she extracted a promise from hubby that we would stay and care for FIL for the rest of his life.
It wasn’t as bad as it could have been, because the in-laws had an (ADU), apartment built over the garage. After MIL died, FIL moved into the apartment. He shared meals with us. He got to see us, and his grandkids every day. But he could retreat to the apartment and shut the door for peace and quiet.
After he died, we bought the house. Now the apartment is rented out and provides income.
ADUs can be a tiny house in the back yard, or a converted garage, or a house addition like mine. If you need to house an elderly parent, an ADU is a great solution to help everyone involved keep a degree of privacy and sanity that isn’t possible if the parent or in-law moves in to your house. While you may not want an elderly in-law or parent watching your every move, they don’t want to be awakened multiple times every night by a crying baby.
Or have toddlers or teenagers rifling through their stuff.

That wo man should have been committed to a NUT HOUSE after prison time for life. I would say she sounded like a nut loose on the streets after trying to burn down a house let alone destroy your property as well. I am PROUD of your husband for standing up to his mom and protecting you and your baby. God bless you all.

Uh, lady, there are far more toxic MILs who try to guild trip and manipulate and maliciously meddle with their DILs' lives....y'know, like *you* are clearly trying to do? I'd also be showing screenshots of every single one of these texts to my husband, and asking him if *he* expects me to put up with such blatant lies, attempted manipulation, gaslighting, and maliciousness toward me.

I'm only half-way through, and I already feel a great desire to slap that woman. She lies, she is supremely passive aggressive. She turns everything into an insult. She ASSUMES that she's going to live with her son, even though that already didn't work out once, and sells her house on purpose to play the 'homeless' card. But guess what? If she SOLD the house, then that means she has money to BUY a house. So she won't be homeless, even if he cuts her off, which is NOT what he was planning to do.
And all because she can't get her way, and the daughter-in-law she clearly hates, and has always hated, is having her son's baby, and "stealing" him.
If I were the wife, I'd be sending my husband screenshots of the whole conversation, starting about five lines in, and just updating, as it goes along. "Your mother is at it again. And now she's gone over the top. She's threatening to tell all the family and friends that I made her homeless. You HAVE to do something about this, Daniel. I think she's messed up in the head. If she's not messed up in the head, then she's pure evil to be this passive aggressive, and so AGGRESSIVELY passive aggressive. She's ATTACKING me now, Daniel! Please, put her in a HOME. Not ours."
