It's interesting, cos you'd think that artificially raising your HR would be detrimental in an endurance sport. For instance, if you have no issues red-lining your HR on a bicycle, does caffeine really help you? Surely you want to do everything in your power to try and keep HR down, rather than boost it up..? However for those who struggle to max out their HR, I can see it being useful.

Couch-potato tip, if you want to lessen the amount of caffeine in a cup of tea, if you are using a teabag or leaves simply pour hot H2O over into the mug with the bag or leaves, count to 10 and then discard the water. Then, refill the cup and steep to your preference. I am not sure if this will work with coffee, although if using a French Press or pour over methods, maybe worth a shot. Not sure how much is actually removed, but would make an interesting experiment.

the big difference of teein (german name for coffein stored in tea leaves) vs. coffein is, the binding mechanism...
"Teein" is complexed with polyphenols, which gets released and absorbed the intestine, whilst coffein (Coffee) is complexed in a chlorogenacid-potassium-complex, which should release the Coffein molecules (active component) whilst brewing. -> Coffee hits harder and faster, while "Teein" gets released later and over a longer duration.

0:38 lol I feel like this clip is on the GCN most usable clips in the editing bank. Every other video has something about coffee, as it should be.

As a coffee lover, I discovered through excess consumption that I am liable to SVT (heart condition) likely brought on by too much stimulant. This manifested itself on workouts on the bike. Now I general try and drink decaf or cafine free and save real cafine hits for club runs.
So worth being aware that cafine can have negative affects.
Worth noting, I haven't had any SVT incidents in over 6 months since going decaf or cafine free....touch wood....or Ollie's head; sorry Ollie 🤣
Ps Waitrose is the only shop I have found that sell decaf coffee beans. After grinding, there is little difference in taste to normal beans.

A book I read about caffeine throws some doubt on many of the claims about caffeine boosting performance. Because of the prevalence of caffeine use, testing a group that takes caffeine vs. a placebo is really testing the normal state (caffeine) vs. withdrawal.

Id love to see a video (made up of individual videos, to make it easier) were all the GCN members showed off their favorite bars, gels, powders etc. Preferably including some that are available to the majority of the world. A vote for the favorites by the views would also be cool. I have some personal favorites, but I'm always looking to find new fuel that tastes or performs well.

I take Guarana in mornings before longer rides, or drink some tea before a shorter ride. Guarana lasts for like 6 hours, so I don't have to top up. But I don't care that much about the performance, my goal is to increase awareness.
    Never tried coffee.

I drink 500ml of coca cola before a sufring session, the sugar and caffeine somehow delays my fatique. Also noticed on time that it improved my time on a local hillclimb.
