Great video I have a late 2004 F250 with this same problem but when I got the pad off I discovered the clip pattern to be different than yours so I went to the video of the 2001 F250 and that's what I had. So there is at least two different clip patterns so everyone needs to determine which one they have. I warmed every thing up and tacked the pad to the plate with supper glue then warmed the plate up good and stapled the edges figuring that warming the plastic would keep it from breaking when stapled. It came out great and now looks like new. Thankyou for your video.
Great video, thank you! My '04s has been pulling up for years. I just made the mistake of drilling two of the back holes on the wrong side, so a couple extra.
Thanks again! I just refastened my pad to the frame using UV Light Glue. I started with corners and edges and eventually the whole perimeter, no staples used.
Thanks man, you had the best repair video I found. My only issue was my plastic was so brittle the staples just shattered the right side of it. Still was able to get it done with my air stapler. Definitely improved. Thanks again.
Man great video ! I’d have to say the stapler idea was amazing! Tried the hand one didn’t have enough to get through that plastic. So went to Lowe’s and got an air one with t50 staples worked like a charm. Great vid helped a lot ! Had to pause it a few time cause you wouldn’t sit still haha ! Thanks man !
Awesome video! This is just the information I was looking for to restore my 2006 F150 with the same issue with pad coming unglued and the edges curling out. Thanks!
I just used this information to successfully remove the plate from a **2010** F150. FYI, This truck has same clip pattern. Tip: Pop the front and side clips first, the 4 clips on the back are really close together and need to be unclipped 2 at a time on each side. It takes a fair amount of pressure to release the clips, be patience. THANKS for the information
What a wonderful video thank you! I took that piece of shit foam off then cut and routed a piece of oak myself.... now everyone I know with this model wants me to do theirs. Again thank you for relieving a headache
Thank you man for this video. You really helped me out with this because because i didn't want to tear it up the other day when i tried to see how it comes apart. Thanks again👍
I bought the hard one on Amazon….I completely broke away that plastic white base and the plastic piece snapped right in perfectly…..2007 F150……..even if the clips break in place just push them through and snap in the new plastic piece.
I am trying desparately to find a video showing how to disassemble the entire cupholder and interior of the console? Did you just use a pry tool to pop off the cushiony cupholder surround?
You need to peel back the edges of the padding and remove it. After removing the padding, follow the instructions in the video to remove the backing structure that attaches to the console. I have no advise on how to disassemble the rest of the console.
Trying this on mine. got the backing piece off no problem, but my staple gun won't penetrate the backing plastic. Way to rigid. Did you use a powered staple gun or something more industrial? Also, as much as my padding is curled around the edges, I hope I can make it stretch all the way around again. Good video. Thanks.
Wondering if contact cement might work to hold the edges of the rubber top part to the white plastic frame? Seems stapling might tend to crack the white plastic(?)
In my experiences using contact cement, in the long run, I don't think it would hold badly curled edges in place. I used 3/8" crown staples 1/4" in length. The plastic backing structure accepted the staples great without any cracking.
Thanks for posting this. I am about to do the same thing. How's it holding up? What kind of staple gun did you use? If it was an air compressor, what psi should I use? Thanks.
It was a pneumatic staple gun. The pressure would depend on the gun used. An upholsterer friend of mine stapled it for me. That said, I would shoot some sample staples in the middle of the plastic to get the pressure right before trying it on the thin edge. The repair is better than original and I don't expect it will ever come loose. Good luck.
I got the backing off by drilling the holes. I only broke one clip. :) But then I tried to staple. My hand stapler did nothing. I got out my pneumatic stapler and it broke the plastic all to pieces. :( Not sure what to do now.
@@padredon7 thanks im going to work on mine tonight. One last question. What size staples did you use? I keep picturing stabbing myself when I rest my arm on it.
So the padding has to be removed before the white plastic piece can be removed to re-attach the padding, correct? The pad on mine isn't completely separated, and I hate ripping it off to just reattach it.
Yes. You need to remove the padding prior to drilling and removing the backing structure. It comes off quite easily as it was just stretched over it when it was made.
Good, helpful video. The guy on the video with the '01 Superduty didn't give any detail on the padded part's removal. Looks lie both models are the same on this part of it in that they both are simply stretched over the white backing structure. So, I thank you.
yes only me .... trying to repair is a great idea . I have been successful only twice . the plastic does not normally take a staple .it will shatter ... I sell them around 69.00 contact me mickeymcrat@hotmail.com
So, they apparently changed the locations of the stupid clips every single year, and you can waste a whole day trying to find and keep the clips, but frankly, my time is better served simply ordering a replacement padded cover. I'm not real happy about carving up the piece I need to hold the pad down, as well as parts of the rest of the flip seat.
Mine has been lifting up for a few years. I remember seeing a replacement on eBay a few years ago but it was pricey so I waited. Now an ABS plastic replacement is available on Amazon or eBay that can be had for less than $20. Different colors available. For that price it's worth a try, but it's not a soft vinyl feel. Once I have it I may try to repair the original.
Don't fall for this! Chances are it will not work!!! THEN YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH A CONSOLE WITH NO PAD! Plastic breaks, staples will not go through it or it will not stay in place after!
I guess I and others were lucky to have used the right staples and staple gun. Mine did not suffer a single crack or broken clip. Sorry to hear that your repair was unsuccessful.
Best. Idea yet for removal and replace without damage! Great explanation and detail!
Great instructions for removal! Took about 10 minutes start to finish. chose to use the single plastic piece for replacement. Very easy.
Excellent job, looks fantastic. My 2004 F250 is doing the same thing.
What a terrific find!! We have a 2002 & 2006 F-150 and both padding pieces have pulled off the console. Can't wait to fix them now!!

Thanks for the update.
I removed the entire top of my console , 3 fasteners. Took less than two minutes. Then you can work on it without drilling.
Please could you explain in more detail, I'd like to get at the actual cup holders to see if I can modify to fit nalgene bottles, thanks!
Good as new now. Thank you! I broke 2 clips removing it but the piece snapped back fine.

Yes Sir...I found your video...marked it out...had it off in 15 minutes
Thanks for this video. It made this job so much easier. I used Permabond 102 Instant Adhesive instead of staples. Hoping it holds up well.

Awesome. I used loctite instant adhesive. Working great so far. Nothing I had would staple thru the plastic
Loctite 414
How has it held up?
@@insidethemindpi extremely well. No movement or change. Pickup sits outside all winter and summer. So extreme heat and cold. Still in tact.

If you don’t have staples it also works to just use gorilla glue and wrap it with rope all around until it’s cured
Thanks for the tip. How is it holding up after a couple months?
Thanks! My '07 is starting to lift on the left front corner.
Thank you very much for making this video it was extremely helpful again thank you for making this video

Great detailed information. Thank you!
How long were the staples u used
Senco brand 3/8" crown staples. 1/4" long.
Excellent
Just fixed mine. Thanks man
Wish you showed the stapling job!
Yeah, me too, but I didn't record it. Somewhere in the comments there are details on the type of gun and staples that were used though.
Awesome, Thanks for posting
just what i was looking for Thanks
I'm going to try that.
Just what I needed! But what kind of staples and gun?
I used a pneumatic upholstery Staple Gun with Senco brand 3/8" crown staples, 1/4" in length. It helps to have a friend in the business.

How do you take the cupholder out to reupholster ?

Super glue worked surprisingly well
Bummer. Another guy had similar results. Not sure why (maybe the staples) but mine and others stapled perfectly. Glad the glue worked out.
Heck yeah it helped!
Do you know how I can reupholster my 2005 f150 front seats?
Thanks man mine is doing the same thing
Does anyone know where to buy the padding part
What gauge are the staples you used? Were they 18?
Actually are they 20 or 22 gauge
Don't know the gauge. They were Senco brand 3/8" x 1/4" long upholstery crown
staples.
How did you get the padding off? Did you just pull it off?
Yes. Just stretch it as needed to pull it of. No glue or fasteners were used in its manufacture.

Do you have to have a fancy staple setup or could you just grab a 10 dollar staple gun from walmart to get it done
I used a pneumatic upholstery Staple Gun with Senco brand 3/8" crown staples, 1/4" in length.
Yes this does not work great with a regular staple gun apparently
I used my air nailer/stapler. Worked great. My manual one was shattering the plastic.
I have an industrial staple gun and they just bounce right off the plastic lol

That's odd. Sorry for your results.
@@padredon7 No worries, I was able to glue the leather back on and plastic is still sturdy. Looks like new
