Longbow are actually pretty good vs light infantry. They have an higher dps and a greater range. Skirm-like units are a more specified unit that are good because of their multiplier. Longbows are overhaul good because their dps comes from higher base attack rather than from multipliers.

i think cassador got screwed because few people play portuguese while skirmisher is found on 4 diferent civs... passing only the stats that we need (not gonna bother with melee stats) Skirmirsher cost 50f 65g hp 120 speed 4.0 LoS 24 Resist 30 vs ranged r/damage 15 mult x2 vs HI&LC range 20 siege 12 RoF 3.0 Cassador cost 80f 35g hp 105 speed 4.5 Los 22 Resist 50 vs ranged r/damage 17 mult x2 vs HI&LC range 20 siege 12 RoF 3.0 Keeping in mind you want meat shields up front, Skirmisher wins in what? hp? it shouldnt matter because, again, meatshields upfront. and the 20% more resist vs range is way better than 15 hp. and both units die way to easilly in melee. next, less food? its easier to get food than gold, only dutch are better in that departement, becausethey have it easy when itcomes to gold. LoS? with meat shield up front, that becomes irrelevant. you can see your targets. So cassador has more damage

You know why the skirms were even better in the original game without the expansions? They didn't have a multiplier against cav, but a TIMES THREE multiplier against ALL infantry. That's so op it's not even funny

Hatamoto Samurai with all the possible permanent damage increases technologies and what not, including the Spanish embassy before you research the armoury upgrades and then kick them out and get Meiji Restoration. You get Infantry that cut down anything and everything in their path, one unit of 50 (200 population) and you can take out all of your enemies towns if you avoid massed artillery or manage to close in on it.
9:46 haven't played for a while, but I believe the one you're describing here is called "onin war", and yes, samurai can shred through buildings with that, they also pair really well with the yabusame cav archers who can take care of enemy artillery
I finally find that Japanese villagers have the age up buttons instead of the towncenter. That's the reason they can age up even if they have no towncenters.
@@cynasfan8411 No. Germany has 4 Cards to strengthen the Doppelsöldner (15% attack; 15 % HP; 15% attack and 15 % HP; 50% attack and -33% speed); Japan has only 3 cards for the Samurai (20% attack; 10% speed and 10% cost; 33% attack vs buildings). → The Doppelsöldner can get much more attack and the Samurai can't even get additional HP.

The best infantry in the game if we ignore cost etc is by far the skull knight. This unit rips through everything in the game and the only counter is to keep the distance. It's a quite a beaty to watch 10 skull knights kill 30 cuirassiers in 2 seconds.
Can confirm, fought a brutal 3v3 once, the game lasted 2 hours becouse the 3 of US could't defeat the Aztec , while the other two enemies rebuilt their strenght
Great video, you are very knowledgeable about this game and your commentaries are really good, I would love to see you casting with the esoc staff some day. One thing that did surprised me is that yumi archers didn't showed up on this video, they are far better than skirms imo and once they are carded + the wonder they are insane, 31 attack on an age 3 light infantry, they kill anything so easily, even cav can't stop these guys, I have even seen them bringing cuirasiers down easily when in mass, still your content is always really good and I look forward for more videos like these

like 2 years late, but skull knight has better stats in every way except speed when compared to the Samurai, more hp, more attack, more multipliers, more siege and more area of effect damage.
i think the aztec jaguar knight has to be in here, it only cost 1 pop has almost 500hp is a beast in melee combat and with the right cards can get 100 siege damage and you can make more numbers than for examlple samurai and doppelsoldner.
Quick Reminder Skirmisher,Abus Gun,and other Anti Heavy Infantry isn't a "Light Infantry",they're just "Infantry",While Musketeer and other Variant are also Classified as "Infantry" and "Heavy Infantry" Light Infantry are Reserved for the Aztec Units,such as Coyote Runner,and The Native Chinese Swordsman.
Because Making Coyote Runners "Cavalry" Means Those Pikes Deals 40 Damage. or they do it because it's easier than making the Multipliers of the specific units,and Skirmishers/Anti Heavy Infantry isn't even a Light Infantry to begin with in the Vanilla AoE3,but I still don't know if in AoE3 Skirmisher has bonus against other Skirmishers.
I usualy start out by with some Ashigaru, but if I'm facing british or soux, I start out wity Yumi,cause Ashigarus will be taken out by their bows. If its indian or germans, the Ashigaru are great. If Samurais are supported by speed cards, attack cards and the speed is boosted by their lv up building, they get great. The higher the speed, the better the chanse they will not be taken out by infantry or artillery, before they have taken out the enemy. For Banner army, I usualy train Yumi and Samurais, but other combors are possible, like melee and ranged Cavalry or pure Samurais. Japans special infantry trained by Shogun are cool too, btw. What gives with the stealthy infantry units? They have not been mentioned in this video, so are they useless?
Well I found out using saloon Ronins is great they are fewer but their dmg health as well as cost comes out the same. You only ned gold and every European Civi can do it. Germany for example has great buffs for them while others will allow you to farm that gold (wales never go out gg micro). It's a mid game strategy for sure dough. But I've come to belief that there really isn't any counter to these Ronin armies. The best is France with the heavy cav and that is just same strenght.
Im surprised skirmesher beat out forest prowlers as they beat out skirms in every way and stealth-guess most people never play iro much. Also you have hand mortar in the survey as a heavy cav :)

abus dont have negative multiplier vs longbow .... but other than that nice video btw mabe u can do a comparison with other units such as strelets vs abus, which of them win cost effectively
i didnt say i miss being able to play the game, i said i miss the good old aoe3 days. the game makes trouble on my win 10, and when i get it to work hardly anyone is online. and the few people online arent in my league. back in the good old days quicksearch took 15 seconds, nowadays you go looking for games longer than the actual game takes....
Aren't cacadores way better, then normal skirmisher? Considering Portugal boosts gunpowder units and they have better stats than common skirmishers? Altough Portugal suffers from a bad non fishing economy.
SamuraiRevolution Portugal always gets overlooked in terms of infantery, their gueirreiro musketeers are atleast in the top three because of the gunpowder cards and cacadores are just insane with the cards. Also you could get the best crossbowmen via the tordesillas contract card when you upgraded your crossbowmen before the church upgrade. Granted Portugal never was good enough in the economic part of the game. No card for a constant ressource income in age I really hurts. Also their artilery is lacking, nothing against organguns but the normal cannons have more use. In short landbattles you win, the war you lose because you just can't keep up with other economies. That makes Portugal as a nation quite frankly unpopular.
SamuraiRevolution what really surprised me is, that the hatamoto Samurai were not chosen as the best heavy infantery in that poll, then again did you count them torwards the mercenaries pool? Btw what do you think is the best consulate nation for the asian countries?
I only can play dutch, other civs like german and france seems hard. How can i play a civ that can rush well? I just cant rush and enemy destroys my eco early game
SamuraiRevolution well, i dont have enough manpower at all time. Also skirms(i play as dutch) cant destroy buildings, i gotta age to age IV and get mortars or i cant destroy anything. And most of the time i get countered by cavalry. But when enemy rushes they got 50 or something units and lots of cavs. I dont like playing cav style maybe after my boom i like it. I want to play russians but i cant rush even with russians. I think i'm hopeless case.
Fırat Masyan maybe try India! Great civilization. They have the fort once they age up. Their villagers cost wood (Dutch cost coin so you would be used to not gathering as much food) and they have their skirm unit age 2! (Gurkha). Check my videos on them...I'd try them!

They have to fix janissaries :/ It was 235 health (max 416) 100 foods 25 golds now it is 210 health (max 378) 90 foods 25 golds which is horrible because they are even now with british musteekers which says "Ottoman Janissaries are stronger than Musteekers" they should do 235-240 health for 100 foods or 220 healths for 90 foods as in history they must be the strongest

To be honest Sam, the best Skirms come from Germany and France. Well not too sure about Germany, but French Voltigeurs are the best skirmisher of the four nations.. Everytime i play france and im against either germany, Spain or the Dutch my volts are the greatest skirms there is on the field. Also on your survey i dont think oprichniks and hussars count as heavy cav, like idk but if thats what aoe made them, then im just confused coz those two units are actually light cav. Besides this luved the survey, hope my cav wins (Probs will, since eso players hate then 😂😂) Nice video Sam, and hope we could play a match on the same team sometime 👍👍 Also P.S, you should do some live streams. Thank you for the feedback...I didn't really specifiy what skirms are best, but highlighted the Dutch because they get them age II. Totally agree that France has the best skirms. Technically all melee cav is heavy cav, but I divided the weaker cavalry up to create a light melee cav group. I want to live stream, but the internet and equipment is not up to scratch yet!

Tristan Bernek but we are trying to make the best nation so it will also have other cards and that means Voltis and Zünd are both as good as the other, how good that France shipments are or the Germans don't matter then, only the upgrades imo, and they have the exact same stats

Its more meant for foitman since ashigaru always fought on foot while samursi mostly fought on horse back

For Banner army, I usualy train Yumi and Samurais, but other combors are possible, like melee and ranged Cavalry or pure Samurais. Japans special infantry trained by Shogun are cool too, btw.
What gives with the stealthy infantry units? They have not been mentioned in this video, so are they useless?
Well I found out using saloon Ronins is great they are fewer but their dmg health as well as cost comes out the same. You only ned gold and every European Civi can do it. Germany for example has great buffs for them while others will allow you to farm that gold (wales never go out gg micro).
It's a mid game strategy for sure dough.
But I've come to belief that there really isn't any counter to these Ronin armies.
The best is France with the heavy cav and that is just same strenght.
No match for abus... Consider them against artillery also, a bunch of them combined with jannisys will do it for you.
Skirmisher aren t light infantry but ranged infantry, coyote runners are light inf ;)
When you upgrade that samurai to exalted they will be your tank
Im surprised skirmesher beat out forest prowlers as they beat out skirms in every way and stealth-guess most people never play iro much. Also you have hand mortar in the survey as a heavy cav :)
I recently bought AoE 3 complete edition though steam...but i dont have access to the Asian nations. Whats is going on?Are they Multiplayer only(havent tried MP yet...only skirmish to get a feel of the game)?
You have to go to your steam library and right click on the aoe 3 game, then launch the Asian dynasties

Dopp are trash. Way too slow to be efficient in any way. High cost and 2 unit pop makes them hard to mass as well.

SamuraiRevolution Portugal always gets overlooked in terms of infantery, their gueirreiro musketeers are atleast in the top three because of the gunpowder cards and cacadores are just insane with the cards. Also you could get the best crossbowmen via the tordesillas contract card when you upgraded your crossbowmen before the church upgrade.
Granted Portugal never was good enough in the economic part of the game. No card for a constant ressource income in age I really hurts. Also their artilery is lacking, nothing against organguns but the normal cannons have more use.
In short landbattles you win, the war you lose because you just can't keep up with other economies. That makes Portugal as a nation quite frankly unpopular.

SamuraiRevolution well, i dont have enough manpower at all time. Also skirms(i play as dutch) cant destroy buildings, i gotta age to age IV and get mortars or i cant destroy anything. And most of the time i get countered by cavalry. But when enemy rushes they got 50 or something units and lots of cavs. I dont like playing cav style maybe after my boom i like it. I want to play russians but i cant rush even with russians. I think i'm hopeless case.
I usually play ff-train time 4 banks boom but i usually get destroyed after i age to age III
Fırat Masyan maybe try India! Great civilization. They have the fort once they age up. Their villagers cost wood (Dutch cost coin so you would be used to not gathering as much food) and they have their skirm unit age 2! (Gurkha). Check my videos on them...I'd try them!

I think units like skirm should be considered separetly for each nations. Because comon, spanish skirms are pretty bad compared to french voltigeurs.

They have to fix janissaries :/ It was 235 health (max 416) 100 foods 25 golds now it is 210 health (max 378) 90 foods 25 golds which is horrible because they are even now with british musteekers which says "Ottoman Janissaries are stronger than Musteekers" they should do 235-240 health for 100 foods or 220 healths for 90 foods as in history they must be the strongest

To be honest Sam, the best Skirms come from Germany and France. Well not too sure about Germany, but French Voltigeurs are the best skirmisher of the four nations.. Everytime i play france and im against either germany, Spain or the Dutch my volts are the greatest skirms there is on the field. Also on your survey i dont think oprichniks and hussars count as heavy cav, like idk but if thats what aoe made them, then im just confused coz those two units are actually light cav. Besides this luved the survey, hope my cav wins (Probs will, since eso players hate then 😂😂) Nice video Sam, and hope we could play a match on the same team sometime 👍👍

Thank you for the feedback...I didn't really specifiy what skirms are best, but highlighted the Dutch because they get them age II. Totally agree that France has the best skirms. Technically all melee cav is heavy cav, but I divided the weaker cavalry up to create a light melee cav group. I want to live stream, but the internet and equipment is not up to scratch yet!

Tristan Bernek but we are trying to make the best nation so it will also have other cards and that means Voltis and Zünd are both as good as the other, how good that France shipments are or the Germans don't matter then, only the upgrades imo, and they have the exact same stats

If we could stick to war history, the best infantry is the spanish tercio until the end of the 18th century.
Tercios were a solid formation in 16th century but they were still behind Janissaries in training and arms mastery. However they fulfilled their duty admirably, which was to defeat Swiss Pikemen. İn thirty years war Dutch reformed their infantry and outperformed the Spanish Tercios in the field with improved firepower. With the reforms of Gustavus Adolphus and Swedish doctrine the Tercios became completely obsolete.
