It’s cute! I’d buy it but I’d never use it. So I’m just getting the cousins a5 and maybe the weeks mega (not 100% on that one, might go with something else idk) Then just a stalogy for gratitude and affirmations. And maybe one for health and projects, again not 100% sure.
Great choices! IMHO, I think you should really consider going for the Hon! It’s pretty, already includes a pencil board, and they also have clear covers available for it now so for me it’s a total package. 🥰
The Saul Leiter pencil board is a nice design, I like it too. Thanks for reminding me I also don’t like to use covers. As cute as they are, I usually end up using the books without them!
You talked through my exact thoughts when deciding between the tomitaro HON and the regular cousin! I'm going with the English cousin as well, I just really love covers too, so that played a role in my decision (i'm a cover person ;) and am getting the almond HAND cover) but anyway! Great video!!
I’m waiting until the English versions come out Nov. 1st! But I’m sooo excited.. so far my plan is 2 weeks (one for work and one personal) and a techo a6 (not sure if I want a hon or the original in English). You inspired me to get the A6 on sale to try out for the remainder of the year and I think I’m in love. Hobonichi is 💕💕💕
Hi Kaitlin! It seems like we follow a similar path to planning and journaling. I'm sort of letting go of bullet journaling. What I mean, is I'm using a Hobonichi Cousin but applying the practice of bullet journaling in it. Like you, I've just became too busy with my work and wanted something with a bit of structure but open as well. I'm going to order the Black Gingham Hon in English. Have you seen that one? It is NOT a hard cover, rather material glued to the paper cover. I just love that black cover with the silver 2024 on it. I decided upon a small drawer pouch too! But I'm leaning to the Ichiro Yamaguchi: Hana/Aka (one with the red flower on it). I've order directly from Hobonichi last year and it was easy and shipping was super fast. It was cheaper too because of the exchange rate.
Hey Karen! It’s SO NICE to hear from you 💕 I love that we’re going through this hobonichi journey together :D I have seen the gingham, it’s so so nice (oops forgot to mention that one in the video) oh and thank you for sharing your hobonichi tips 🙏🏻
I have the Tomitaro plain notebooks, which helped me choose the navy and gold slash design over the Tomitaro HON! Hobonichi covers are gorgeous and well made, but I also don't stay in covers for very long and I think I'll enjoy looking at the timeless design of the slash for a year. I always order direct from Hobonichi because I find that even with the shipping costs, it's still more affordable than ordering from a shop (in America, anyhow). And I now have a habit of collecting their pens! 😂 Looking forward to your unboxing!
The slash is so simple and elegant! Yess you’re right, even for me this year, with the shipping it was still cheaper to order from the hobonichi site compared to my local stationery shops
Just ordered mine! This is my first order from hobonichi and my boyfriend decided to get one too. He got a mother cover and a cousin I got the weeks and an a6 with the dog cover also got a drawer pouch and some other stuff just to get that free shipping and really make it with it lol.
Well, I am boring, haha! I ordered from JetPens but bought myself an Avec (I don't like writing on the curved spine when my book fills up) and a Cousin for my daughter's birthday. Enjoy your shopping, Kaitlin!!
I’m hoping to do my first Hobinichi order …and will be awake at 3am Uk time which is 11am in Japan when they launch …only because I have no idea how quickly items sell out. I’ve been told by someone who placed an order last year to the UK that shipping was about £30 ….I know this is quite a lot but the price that they sell Hobinichi for over here more then covers that …..and the fact that you probably wouldn’t get most of the items on sale here. Can you tell I’m quite excited lol . I hope you get the items you want . ❤😊
That’s part of why I’m ordering from the shop too, looking at the price difference, shipping and the price from other vendors is so key to figure out the right order method for you! I hope you get the items you want as well!
I'm going for the techo original eng ver. for daily journaling, i've been enjoying the one piece original, which is my first hobonichi purchase ever...hearing that they will offer one piece again, the HON design made the decision quite hard, but its a bit expensive for me so I decided to get the normal techo original english version instead, just to also try the normal design itself. And same its hard for me to commit for a cover and the hobonichi covers are quite expensive so I will stick to what I have. Can't wait for Nov to get mine. 😊 Oh, and i'm getting a Kinbor weeks as work planner, because it has whiter paper than the current hobo weeks and is a lot cheaper... i'm just not ready yet to spend a lot for my work planner since i'm still finding what works best for me, i tried plain notebook as work planner/notebook but its not working anymore so i changed to dated kinbor weeks and currently loving the week view of task. This is me oversharing hahahaah
lol you are in a safe space oversharer (I also overshare, hence the 30 minute video where I ramble about journals haha) Love the experimentation before commiting to anything, this sounds like an awesome lineup!
I had hard time deciding between Hon or Cousin A5. This video help me decide on Cousin A5. You are right, I think after all the stickers and adding photo hard cover Hon might not close? Thank you for the video.
I also don’t use the covers. I love the books in their own, haven’t used a cover in four years. I’m buying the Weeks (either the Tomitaro Makino or the Black Gingham… leaning towards the black), I’m also thinking of the Tomitaro Makino A6 HON in Japanese. One of the reasons I’m thinking of ordering direct (I’m in Canada, too) is that it seems like the local shops are only bringing in the English versions and I much prefer to have the Japanese in my planners! I got the English Weeks last year locally and it was $60 for just that and the shipping. I have some drawer pouches and love them (Black large and Ane, Peacocks of Grantham in the small, and various of the Pocket which I use as a wallet). I love them and am thinking of the otter one or a black in the Pocket.
Thank you for convincing me not to buy HON! xD This is my first time buying a Hobonichi product so everything is just too tempting! But after watching your videos with the Hobonichi cousin, I've decided to buy Cousin instead 📒
Do you guys need to also pay taxes. In Finland I compared ordering directly from Hobonichi page the product and it's the cost + shipping + 24% on taxes (item+shipping) Also customs after we reach to certain amount(?). Luckily there are two re-sellers in Finland that had what I wanted in stock at the launch. I'm going with the HON A5. This years line up is great. :)
So in Canada we have our regular taxes on purchases, and then for international packages sometimes they get hit with duties which are usually pretty expensive :( I believe this year, hobonichi had you prepay any customs fees in advance to avoid this which I’m v happy about!
I will only buy 3 things, but i wanna buy 10 things hahaha Money is not so much the issue, is that its such a pitty to buy such a nice journal and dont fully use it. Ive been a hobonichi cousin user since 2017, but I am using it as a daily journal and the weekly section does not work for me so Im really undecided if I should get an A6 instead of a cousing, sales goes on tonight and Im still not sure T.T
If you don’t love the weekly, I’d try an a6! Ofc if you write a lot a5 may be better but if I didn’t love the weekly so much I’d consider an a6 myself ☺️
The HON you were considering comes with a pencil board and fancy not liking covers, that’s the whole point of getting a Hobonichi otherwise they look so plain and boring.
Finally hearing someone talk about the otter pouch. It’s THE thing I have my eye on!
She IS the moment!!!!
It’s cute! I’d buy it but I’d never use it. So I’m just getting the cousins a5 and maybe the weeks mega (not 100% on that one, might go with something else idk) Then just a stalogy for gratitude and affirmations. And maybe one for health and projects, again not 100% sure.
I want it so bad but i wish it was a hobonichi cover instead bec i dont really have a use for a pouch 😭
Always enjoy hearing how people arrive at their decisions 🫶🏻 Happy Hobonichi launch day 📚
Happy hobonichi day 💕
Great choices! IMHO, I think you should really consider going for the Hon! It’s pretty, already includes a pencil board, and they also have clear covers available for it now so for me it’s a total package. 🥰
hahahahaha noooo not when I just talked myself down from the HON 🤣 You make a strong case!
The Saul Leiter pencil board is a nice design, I like it too. Thanks for reminding me I also don’t like to use covers. As cute as they are, I usually end up using the books without them!
lol team no covers unite ✊
You talked through my exact thoughts when deciding between the tomitaro HON and the regular cousin! I'm going with the English cousin as well, I just really love covers too, so that played a role in my decision (i'm a cover person ;) and am getting the almond HAND cover) but anyway! Great video!!
Ohhhhh nice, I hope you like the HAND cover, it’s so so pretty!!!
I’m waiting until the English versions come out Nov. 1st! Yassssss I love it! So many planners 🥳
Hey! The English versions are available at launch today! You just have to select between the two types!!

the pencil case!!!
THE pencil case is the star of the show 😂😍

Love watching this video even though I won't be buying Hobonichi for next year. I'll be trying TN and Stalogy 🤞🏽
Those are some excellent choices!! I may pick up a stalogy as a sketchbook for my design work next year 👀
I couldn't decide so I got the A5 Hon Cats and the Weeks Cats
Niceee, matchy matchy 👯♀️
this is really interesting ❤

Of course! I’m glad it was helpful, and I hope you get the items you want 💕
There are a few accounts on IG who used the bunny and ties Hon last year. It gets chonky but it still closes like a super full cousin!
I also don’t use the covers. I love the books in their own, haven’t used a cover in four years. I’m buying the Weeks (either the Tomitaro Makino or the Black Gingham… leaning towards the black), I’m also thinking of the Tomitaro Makino A6 HON in Japanese. Oh wild, I didn’t even consider that Canadian vendors may only carry the English techos 🫣I hope you get the items you want 🤞🏻
Thank you for convincing me not to buy HON! xD This is my first time buying a Hobonichi product so everything is just too tempting! But after watching your videos with the Hobonichi cousin, I've decided to buy Cousin instead 📒
lol my pleasure!! It’s my first time ordering from them too!

where do you get your clear covers for the hobonichi from?
My clear cover is the Midori a5 codex clear cover :)
Hobonichi sells its own clear covers for all the planners
may I ask what you use to print off the pics you stick into your planner?
Ofc! I use a HP laser printer (it’s v old and not made to print photos but it does the job), and print my photos on copy paper so they’re super thin
@@KaitlinGrey hey, I have a tip but I don't know if you will like it but I use sticker paper to print my photos rather than using copy paper.
I've seen small machines that print them out and then you stick to the journal. I will try both of these recommendations. Thank you both!
By any chance, do you happen to know why Hobinichi doesn’t let you purchase the Porter products?
I do not know, if anyone knows the reason please leave it here 🙏🏻

I love the OG hobonichi cover :P Hence why I picked that up over the HON
