  • We tell cruise news of a couple potentially paying a big price price for their mistaken actions on a cruise ship embarkation day with a shocking realization that quickly became a real life Cruise Nightmare! What is the Cruise Ship security like onboard cruise ships? How do Cruise Ship Crew handle embarkation day problems on cruise ships? Are all cruise ship passengers being watched at all times? Are International laws what govern safety and security onboard cruise ships? We tell a couple’s experience that we witnessed firsthand on Embarkation Day while boarding a transatlantic cruise ship where these cruise ship passengers did something that could cost them $1,000’s and negatively impact their cruise. Are cruise passengers onboard Cruise Ships stupid people? We’ll discuss it all as it happened to these cruise passengers onboard our Transatlantic Cruise!

My 78 yr old mother and her fiancé just boarded the Celebrity Constellation this morning, from Rome. They took a taxi from the hotel to the port, it cost $120!!! She said it was worth every penny to be taken to exactly where they needed to go. Thankfully they had a taxi driver who knew where to go and exactly where to drop them off.

That is insane, I can't believe they were able to get that far before someone noticed 😱

Back in October we had 13 people in our Rome hotel . Yes, we could have cut costs and jumped through hoops to get to port. However, we wanted comfort and no hassles. We prearranged a private transfer company that delivered two 8 passenger minivans to our hotel. They loaded us up and all of our luggage which included 2 scooters and we were at the Enchanted Princess in 1 hr. 10 minutes. No hassles, no problems. It costs us 50 euros each and was worth every penny .

I've never heard of THIS specifically, but I did hear plenty of stories of people who checked their bags with the wrong porters at terminal 91 in Seattle. The drop off area is between the two ships (one Celebrity and one Royal Caribbean). There were big signs over the kiosks where the porters were standing, yet many people were confused. I think it's always a good idea to ask questions, particularly if it's your first time to a port or it looks confusing. Luckily we were at the same port on the third day and were able to swap the luggage, but it was pretty nerve wracking for a couple of days and a LOT of people complained at Guest Services on both ships! 😱

Great vlog! We were on the Beyond as well and saw you 2 in the theatre! Mt husband and I both commented on how there weren't any vlogs that ww saw on the boarding process and all that's involved...detail for detail like you have done. There are multiple checkpoints and if you've never been on a cruise, it's daunting! Glad you talked about this and hope these people got their luggage! Great job, guys!

Great tips, our Hell was the port's train station. We followed the mass of passengers from the train down a flight of stairs with our luggage, walked a short distance only to go back up another flight of stairs, again with our luggage. Being seniors and me with a recent shoulder replacement, this was extremely challenging. It was most excellent chatting with both of you in the casino, we love to be included in future group still cruises. Thanks, you made my day.

We enjoyed meeting you two guys in the casino on the Beyond on that very cruise. It was a lovely trip, but I’m so glad we decided to take a taxi to the port. We were delivered right to our ship. But once inside the embarkation area, it was chaotic. I felt sorry for an older couple who had paid to be in the exclusive suites. Both were elderly and had mobility issues. Even after saying many times they were retreat guests, they were ignored and hold to wait.
The Chris was lovely, embarkation and honestly disembarkation were both a bit wild.
Hope to see you again on the high seas.

Embarkation day problems are my absolute nightmare - I recently had a Carnival cruise booking cancelled on embarkation day, and it was SUCH a nightmare. Thankfully, the shore office were able to help me (they apparently didn't register my payment months before...), so all ended well, but it was SO stressful!

we cruised out of that port several times - we took a private car, stayed right at the port for 2 nights. been on over 89 cruises well before the covid hit, travel these days is painful and almost frightful and people are awful. lots of drinking, sneaking drugs, jumping over board. travel....

This is truly scary that this could happen with all the checkpoints. Just FYI I'm headed to Spain for a Transatlantic, too! I leave Saturday for a 14-night TA on Enchantment OTS, my smallest Royal ship so far. It's my 3rd TA, 2nd in 5 months, but 1st westbound. My goal has been to cruise as much as you guys and I think I'm getting there - I'm working on 9 cruises in 9 months - 2 down, 7 to go. The irony is, the more I cruise the less I can keep up with you guys but I want to let you know how much you've inspired me!

Hey! Great meeting you two at the airport (we were on the same flight, Kevin & Nicole).
We ended up using “transfer service rome” for our transportation. ~$200 for a mercedes black car with plenty of room for our 6 bags. Also picked us up right in front our hotel (busy narrow street).
If we would’ve used Holland Americas bus transportation it would’ve cost ~$175 before uber costs to bus depot.

Last time I went out from Fort Lauderdale there were a couple Princess ships in the same area. If you didn’t tell the driver which one you could be dropped in the wrong place. I’ve also heard of people putting their passports in the bags they leave with the porter. My problem was they asked my room number and I had to check my paperwork. I thought it was built into the medallion so I didn’t have it out.

I just can't imagine the stress and anxiety the couple must have gone through. I sure hope they safely got to the right ship on time and were reunited with their luggage.
I am sailing out of an international port for the 1st time next year with my mom and I am nervous about it. I have to make sure I am well knowledged in what I need to do and how to get there as my mom is depending on me. Will be watching a lot of your guys's video(s) on sailing out of Rome and things to do at ports.

Having done my share of travel it can definitely be a little confusing especially in large international airports with signs in nine languages. As travelers I think we have a responsibility to get ourselves in the right place the best we can if you have any questions don't be shy to ask. I'm out of the macho stage and I'll ask for help rather than get lost. Once in the wrong location Celebrity should've caught the misunderstanding and directed the couple in the right direction. I don't know how the system didn't flag that they were on the wrong ship. If at an airport there are two American flights going from Phoenix to Seattle and your at the wrong gate it'll let someone know when you scan your boarding pass I'm sure.

Hi guys. This is deja vu to us in which a friend of ours nearly boarded the wrong Princess ship in Port Everglades. While on board the Emerald Princess at terminal 4, we were approached and asked if we knew the whereabouts of Charlie. One of our group of seven called him by cell and found that he was at terminal 2 ready to board the Caribbean Princess while we were already on board the Emerald. Luckily all was corrected by sailaway and our 14 nighter was a hoot! ☺😊

When checking your bags with porters, sometimes they don't even scrutinize the the important details of your boarding pass. The always seem focused on the quick movement of bags and being tipped. Recently we had multiple ships in port and I could not find the guests record to check them in. They were at the wrong ship. Fortunately they had all their bags with them and gave them explicit directions to the right ship. If a porter had taken care of their bags and they had gone to the wrong ship, they would have been delayed hours.

It is rather strange you can drop off your luggage and for it to get on the wrong ship. The information is on the tags, so it should be noticed. As for getting on board, the staff should check if the passengers are in the correct terminal and lines from the start. This works at very busy airports, so no excuse for cruiseports.

Last September, we disembarked from the Apex in Rome’s port (outside of Rome) and had a private car waiting to take us to the airport in Rome. We arranged it on the ship after hearing that, yes, Rome is over an hour away from the port. It’s the best money that we spent on our 3-week trip. The airport is an hour or so away from the cruise port. While we’ve been to Rome several times, this was our first time coming in by ship.

So, I can’t envision how this happened! The iPads and computers used for the Celebrity checkin process are tied into the ship manifest. If the individual is not on the manifest (which this couple would not be) it is impossible to check them in. The average checkin agent does not have the ability to add passengers. If the passengers were taken to the pier coordinator (person having greater access) they would still need approval of the appropriate ship personnel to get them added to the manifest. This just does not happen. I have been checking in passengers for Celebrity since we returned from the COVID break and can’t in my wildest dreams think of a scenario where this could actually occur.

Wow did not realize the civittavechia port is that huge. Definitely booking the cruise shuttle will be safer and peace of mind rather than public transport. Btw I am looking at cruise in 2025 from this port...

It’s not a huge port, but definitely big enough to make a mistake 😅
We love Italy and highly recommend cruising from or to Italy! 🇮🇹

We are always asked for passports and checked on a list prior to security. How did they get this far?

We were shocked as well! We could only assume it had something to do with similar class of ships. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I had handed in my luggage to a porter , who I found out they were the ones with the knowledge of the tags identifying your ship. At the first checkin found out I was on wrong line . A manager was called and he Had to help retrieve my luggage . Called a shuttle for me to get to the right ship. Luckily I always arrive early so I had the time for this this mix up. If the name of the ship was showing I would have known it was around the corner too.

Having worked in passenger services ground operations for an airline (a similar process to cruise embarkation) I can comment that if we ever had an unusual scenario (like the two Celebrity X ships both being in port on the same day) I would always give the staff a special briefing and also send someone to "walk the customer journey" to make sure signage etc. was clear, helpful and not misleading.
Someone in the handling agent at Civitavecia is not doing their job properly. Celebrity X will be paying them a great deal of money for their services and should insist this is investigated and resolved.
As far as the technology goes, it is little surprise for a US company. The USA can't even implement voting machines that give true election results so what do you expect.

I went on a cruise when two princess ships were in port. We took princess transport from LAX to the port> Our luggage went to the Emerald we were on the Ruby. We caught up to it at Puerto Vallarta three days later.

Celebrity needs some better “checks and balances”!

    • @JJCruise
      @JJCruise  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

We believe this is the port workers which definitely handle multiple cruise lines. But agree that the checks should be better!

The ports have control of the baggage handlers not the cruise line....but yes, they need better signs or cruise line employees there.

Not sure why the couple needed to be described as elderly. As if the age of the passengers contributed to this fiasco.

Why not? It’s not a fiction novel but more of a public service announcement to let cruisers know what to watch for. An ending would be nice but no reason not to warn cruisers about things that can happen.

That’s like a news channel not reporting a crime just because the authorities haven’t caught the perpetrator or figured out how the crime was carried out. Real life doesn’t always have tidy endings but such incidents should be reported if it will spare someone else similar grief.

We aren’t sure if these were just general port workers or specific to Celebrity as we often see port workers who work for multiple lines. That said, the checks were definitely missed!
