    I follow a lot of board/war/roleplaying game TH-camrs, and all of them are great, but the amount of competence and knowledge you have, and the way you present games is top tier quality! Thank you for this list and for all the hard work that went in its preparation. Quality content, presented in an engaging manner and clear explanations; this is why you're at the top of the solo gaming content creators, in my opinion, and I never miss one of your videos. Plus, we have very similar tastes so I know I can trust your opinions! :)

    Great to see a list that is more personal and appropriate for me. I feel if I did a top ten list half the games most people woudn't be aware of. Your rating of quest for the lost pixel has me very intrigued and I definitely agree with your high rating of Hexplore It series as well. I hadn't heard of most of these before today. I've been looking for a good solo game, so I will look into a few of these.
    If you haven't done so already, maybe you can do a video on the best affordable solo games. Several of the ones I have looked at range from $150 to $400+ with multiple expansions also costing $80 and up. I'm not going to pursue a board/ card game that costs more than a Triple-A Video game....

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Board gaming can be a very expensive hobby, and can't really be compared at all to AAA video games because of economy of scale. It costs nothing to print and deliver a video game, where as a huge amount of the cost of a board game is in the physical components, and the shipping of the very big and heavy thing can be very expensive, especially for smaller publishers who don't get volume discount.
      They also sell a fraction of the numbers of a AAA video game, so the cost is higher. It can be, unfortunately, an expensive hobby, especially with the kinds of games I tend to cover which are indie and smaller titles that don't have the luxury of large scale production and distribution.
      AAA video game companies are also some of the most profitable companies in the world, and most of the games I cover are made by super small companies, sometimes only a single person, and so they don't get the benefit are large financial investments.
      So yeah, very hard to compare the two economically.
      However, I do have a whole playlist dedicated to smaller box games that pack a great thematic punch, and 99.9% of everything I cover here is from the solo perspective!

    • @jcraigwilliams70
      @jcraigwilliams70 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheDungeonDiveoh, I understand that they are quite different. I was referring more to my personal enjoyment of the game. The experience of a video game is usually worth $80-ish for me, particularly if it's a longer game. I can't imagine even the most enjoyable board game feeling like a good value (to me) at $400 unless I play it daily for a year or more.
      I will check out your other stuff, though, for sure. One of the games I am considering is One-Deck Dungeon, and I have heard that Fallout is pretty decent, though I have no idea how replayable it is.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've played some table top games for many, many decades, so it's totally possible to get a ton of value out them. Most thematic board games cost about $100 these days, and that can provide 20-40 hours of first-time experiences for 1-4 people (how much would it cost for 1-4 people to go see 10-20 movies? A lot more than $100!), and then you can get into all the replay value of experiencing the same stuff with different combinations of players, characters, loot, encounters, set ups, etc. You also get amazing tangible things that can be held and admired, touched, pushed, flicked, etc. :) Also, most of these are being made by super small teams of people, and not some giant tech corporations. So there's a lot to be said about the value of table top games.
      Some people like One Deck Dungeon, I am not one of them. :) Most people don't really like the Fallout Game, but I like it. However, if you're looking a post-apocalyptic adventure game go straight to the best and get Fallen Land 2nd Edition, which just hit. Talk about replay value! It's like Skyrim meets Fallout on your table top. You could play that game every week for years and never, ever, ever see the same combination of encounters. It's insane.
      I have videos for Fallout and Fallen Land.

    Great list. SOTLT is one of my faves too. My stack of tiles and the encounter deck are insane if you have most of the expansions! I agree that it might lose its charm with better art and I probably wont back it coz it would cost me the earth to replace everything but I certainly would go for it if I was the creator.
    I watched ‘Solo Gamers Club’ play it recently. He made lots of mistakes and paid dearly. Most notably he never applied his outnumber bonus in fights! I wanted to help him but he’s turned comments off ☹.

    (1) You mentioned Rogue on Netscape. Rogue is a lot older than that. I played Rogue (version 3.6) for hours and hours in Unix, in 1981-3. Unix came with a software package that made it possible to treat a CRT screen (80 lines of 24 characters) as a graphic canvas, with any character at any location. Rogue was very playable remotely, using a modem at 1200 bits per second. -toby

    I do really want to get Quest for the Lost Pixel and Rogue Dungeon. I also am wanting Adventure Realms. I was going to get it during the crowd sale, but it ended earlier than the date posted so I didn’t get a chance to get it. I own Secrets of the Lost Tomb, but I have a feeling I won’t get it to the table with how complex the rules seem to be. Is Quest for the Lost Pixel worth the price point though for the base game? It’s $150 which I think is kind of steep. If it was half of that, I’d be all in. Also, could you recommend something similar to Quest for the Lost Pixel in digital form?
