For sure. It applies to other areas too, anything where the process has multiple steps and it's not easy to tell by sight if all the steps were done. It's very important at my job too and I build cell sites lol
12:10 ... aaah, a memory from my youth. I always, ALWAYS, used to outrun him by a slight margin. Whether I was a better driver or maybe the Mustang was a few pounds heavier, don't know, but I always beat him. One time, we were racing and I went first, second, third and I was, as usual, just pulling him and he went first second, FIRST and he disappeared behind me. It just shredded his clutch. He never would race me after that.
Steph's channel is amazing!!! The high tech, in depth items be walks through, like the CAD and 3D metal printing of an intake manifold that without 3D printimg is impossible to make as a single peice. This guy is a freaking wealth of automotive knowlege like no one else.
I’ve been told by drag racers they stay away from certain corvette body’s for their tendency to wanna take off, they said it’s cause of their front end design.
The comment about the supercharger bolts might also explain the driveshaft, I'm sure I saw on another channel (MCM?) about not strengthening the driveshaft too much, as it's cheap(er) and more accessible than many other parts, you want it to be the weakest link, kinda like a fuse.
In driveshaft, normally there`s a few mechnical fuses. Some mild steel or alumnium pins in cardan shaft, driveshaft donut or special coupling with fail safe design. This fail safe design is the hardest part in design those parts

I was surprised by that one, I’ve heard about hydrazine and read about how crazy dangerous it was back when it was a more common drag racing fuel (though iirc it started with land speed record runs). I was under the impression most drag racers consider it to be proven too dangerous to be worth it even if it can be incredibly powerful - and that’s if you can even get the stuff somehow as the danger associated with it means it’s not something anyone can just go out and buy. Never thought I’d see video of someone running their car on hydrazine nowadays, that guy must be insane.
Never even heard of the stuff till this video. Looked it up and damn, I'm also very surprised to see its use in anything close to modern. A DragZine article states "handled improperly, hydrazine will kill you in ways you can’t even spell," LMAO
@@nthgth Yeah I've heard stuff like, when cleaning carburetors after running an engine on hydrazine, they'd often leave a solid residue behind that explodes if you tap it, violently enough that you could lose a hand. So basically if you do ANYTHING with an engine that's run on hydrazine, you are risking life and limb for every second of it. And even if it doesn't explode, it's still toxic, so it will affect your health either way. It does make cars crazy fast though, in land speed racing back in the day it could make a normally 65-100 hp Ford flathead V8 put out closer to 600 hp, just from the different fuel. The engine is ruined afterwards of course, but if you only gotta use it once...
@@Thinginator that is absolutely insane. That's the stuff of mad scientists and Bond villains. I love it, I need to learn more about it. I wonder if the Camaro in thus video was doing what you said with the flatheads, he only intended to use it once so maybe he just went with the stock LT1 engine. If H gives you about 6x the power, that's over 1600 hp, I could see that propelling the car like we see here before it blows
@@nthgth Yeah, even if the engine can be salvaged afterwards it needs a full rebuild after every run, including new pistons and rods and such. When I passed it it was being loaded onto the tow truck.

That would be really cool on a lot of levels. Hard to witness though lol And of course the engines and moving parts would need to be much more robust to withstand all that
The car that went over the wall was in a wheelie contest. And the girl that got stuck to the track is kinda common when racing on radial prep.its so sticky.
I like the point homie made about makeing sure you get everything tightened down before dealing with other distractions or people or whatever ive probably left wayyy to much stuff loosened and still get on it and thankfully I've been alright so far
Good times back in the day watching Steph break records with his Civic at MIR, Atco and Englishtown. Him, Abel Ibarra and Carlos Montano (Pepe Loco) always put on a good show!
about tightening stuff, a funny little story here: there is very popular Rally team in finland called PTF-Racing, they drive an old 70's Lada 1200, however, they were about to go to the arctic lapland rally last winter but they also drove one small rally in between the travel to there (epic!), after the rally which was +70 stage kilometers, they got to the arctic lapland rally spot and then they checked if everything still ok. (they replaced the engine before the trip) and co-driver who also works on the engines and mostly on the car itself too, notices that the engine was literally not even attached to the car :D it was missing the mounting bolts from engine mounting brackets, so he forgot to mount the engine, they drove and won the +70km rally in between the travel to the main rally they were going for haha! and you know what? nothing broke!
3:32 At the drag strip in Calhoun Ga back probably late 90's seen a rear end explode, piece of a ring gear from a 9" caught the starter in the calf he had to go to the hospital...
In the 2nd clip, the throttle stuck at WOT and that's why it was still full throttle while grinding the guardrail. He was finally able to cut ignition after it come off the wall.
Wrong....wheelie competition....clip of this pinto and others competing in it....this guy wont let up even when its "gone".... Search it on TH-cam and you will find the clip ...
@@Blacksheep2294 I know it was a wheelie competition, but the driver himself stated that the throttle stuck and he was getting shook around and couldn't kill the ignition until it came off the barrier.
Interesting about the supercharger bolts being designed to fail. I saw that happen to Ashley Force many years ago at Maple Grove. About halfway down the track, lifted the body up and the supercharger was launched pretty high.
In 1971 when I was 15 I went to the HS drags at the1/8 track in Eugene Oregon and got see a total drive shaft failure from the coolest car there in my book a full on Rambler Scrambler. Lights go clutch pops and suddenly the only sound the drive shaft rolling across the track.
That first clip - wow. Physics is so cool, it's incredible to think how heavy that car is, and yet once the air resistance acts on it, up it goes like a kite. I'm glad the driver was OK.
My buddy Eddie used to race against Steph back in the 90’s. Under the tag obsession (Sacramento) was 90 something crx fully built would hit 10s when it successfully made it down the track haha. Steph was racing the classic yellow ek9 I think with the h22.
I watched an engine swapped Honda Impact do the 1-2-1 shift and the back end lifted quite a bit higher than seen in the clip here. It also destroyed the transmission, which had a hole blown in it.
This one reminded me of the 56 Chevy Pickup my dad gave me when I turned 16 back in the early 80's. It had a used up end of its life with a 327, I blew that motor within about 3 months, 3 speed manual. Next was a 283 from an Impala, that lasted maybe a year then my cousin was changing out his 350 from a Camero so we stuck his old engine in it and the rearend locked up on me after I had switched out the 3 speed for a Muncie rock crusher 4 speed my dad had traded somebody something for, had a nice tight patterned Hurst shifter on it. We went to a salvage yard and took the rearend gears for what we think was 3:97 gears. It got way faster, then I blew that motor too, this is what I drove on the street, not on a track. Still had the original 56 drum brakes so I would have to occasionally jack each wheel off the ground and manually adjust the brakes with a screwdriver thru the slot on the backside of the wheel assembly. Blew that motor right before I went off for 4 years in the USMC then when I got out a racing friend of mice was doing a motor swap and asked me If I wanted his either 305 or 307, I can't remember which. It had a Fireball cam and made that truck into a dangerous thing to drive if you didn't know what you were doing. Dad asked one day while I was working on one of his and mom's cars if he could that the old truck out for a drive. I said sure and handed him the keys, I got my speed demon side from dad, I figured he wouldn't have a problem with it. He showed back up about 15 or 20 minutes later and said " That thing's was faster than when I gave it to you! You better switch it over to disc brakes, I almost wrecked the damn thing!" I sure miss Dad and that old truck!

The car that went over the wall was in a wheelie contest. And the girl that got stuck to the track is kinda common when racing on radial prep.its so sticky.
Steph was an awesome guest. He's so much more chill than I would have expected. I fucking cracked up at 2:45.
I love Stephen papadakis, his channel on building a new supra tip to butt is awesome. Been a long time fan of him. Absolutely awesome 👏🏼 😍
I like the point homie made about makeing sure you get everything tightened down before dealing with other distractions or people or whatever ive probably left wayyy to much stuff loosened and still get on it and thankfully I've been alright so far
love content with steph he is always great to watch, super knowledgeable.
When I was growing up it was Steph in every magazine. Glad to see he's still setting the bar
Good times back in the day watching Steph break records with his Civic at MIR, Atco and Englishtown. Him, Abel Ibarra and Carlos Montano (Pepe Loco) always put on a good show!
Stephen Papadakis is the real deal. Watching such a professional level build on the Supra was very impressive
6:00 I’m so glad they didn’t kill the XW Falcon 🥲 . Great wheel work 🤘😎🤘 .
Really is worth subscribing to this channel. It's educational. I love the collabs you guys do.
The track at 8:38 is George Rays Dragstrip in my hometown of Paragould, AR. It is one of, if not the oldest Dragstrip in America!
Stephan is the total entertainment package, enjoyed every comment, thank you.
about tightening stuff, a funny little story here: there is very popular Rally team in finland called PTF-Racing, they drive an old 70's Lada 1200, however, they were about to go to the arctic lapland rally last winter but they also drove one small rally in between the travel to there (epic!), after the rally which was +70 stage kilometers, they got to the arctic lapland rally spot and then they checked if everything still ok.
The first clip you showed with the Red Corvette that particular model was famous for that problem in other forms of motorsports as well
That rice burner rear wheelie was the most fun. Gonna have to watch more of these from you.
3:32 At the drag strip in Calhoun Ga back probably late 90's seen a rear end explode, piece of a ring gear from a 9" caught the starter in the calf he had to go to the hospital...
13:10 he blew the welds off the intake. LOL
In the 2nd clip, the throttle stuck at WOT and that's why it was still full throttle while grinding the guardrail. He was finally able to cut ignition after it come off the wall.
Actually makes sense! Cheers mate
But it was also during a wheel stand competition at Byron Dragway. They should have shown the exterior video of it as well.
That second clip was at the Power Wheelstand Championships in Byron, IL. Contests for furthest, fastest and highest wheelstands!
The 1,2,1 shift is also called the money shift, because it usually costs you allot of money after you shatter the trans or motor
The clip at 1:30 is from the World Power Wheelstanding Chamionships at Byron Dragway. Huge event, and this is super common.
Interesting about the supercharger bolts being designed to fail. I saw that happen to Ashley Force many years ago at Maple Grove. About halfway down the track, lifted the body up and the supercharger was launched pretty high.
I guess kinda the same concept as crumple zones, or even airbags. Break your nose to save your neck.
That Corvette in the first clip reminded me of the movie 200mph. When they're constantly worried about their "MX-5" taking off like a plane.
Stephen is such a down to earth, cool car guy. Can't help but appreciate him.
Stephan is THE MAN! I watch all his stuff, regardless of its relevancy to my interest 😂
Awesome having Stephan on the channel. His own channel is amazing too, although he unfortunately stopped uploading.
6:08 yes that's Australia and the car is a 1970 XW Falcon
11:55 insane drag EG's always seem to come from the US's East Coast 🤘
Probably one of the best guests to have on a show to talk about CAR STUFF!
My buddy Eddie used to race against Steph back in the 90’s. Under the tag obsession (Sacramento) was 90 something crx fully built would hit 10s when it successfully made it down the track haha. Steph was racing the classic yellow ek9 I think with the h22.
What an awesome scene that must've been
Yes the white car was Australian, 1970 XW Ford Falcon. It was at Eastern Creek Raceway and the tierod end snaped, making the wheel turn in.
I watched an engine swapped Honda Impact do the 1-2-1 shift and the back end lifted quite a bit higher than seen in the clip here. It also destroyed the transmission, which had a hole blown in it.
I like Steph, real chill and fun attitude.
