How did you power the dynamo so that it can rotate? Did you connect the yellow cable at 6:50 to your house on grid electricity? If you plug it into your house electricity, then it does not really generate electricity.

I remember hearing about an exciter coil in an alternator/generator. Do most commercial fans simply use an exciter coil? I hooked up the a/c plugs to a multimeter and ran it and got no voltage at all. Could this be simply bypassed and a battery be added to the coil directly?

Why don't you use a 500 mAh 12 vdc mini power supply that is plugged into a wall outlet to drive that RS-775 dynamo motor, while to start that motor using a cable wrapped around one of the pulleys, then the cable is pulled quickly until that dynamo it rotates.
