  • What it is logic behind choosing the sizes of aquariums to include in your fish room? Here is a video about the sizes I chose, why and how they are racked in my fish room.

    How much space do you have behind your racks. I am working on the layout for my room I am not sure I can give up enough space to get behind mine. Your videos have been a great help to me, thank you

    Do you remember the height of the 3 tier staggered racks you have in this video?
    Thanks for all the amazing info you have packed into your channel....👏👏👏

      The height of the back (longest) verticals on those racks was 60". That placed the top tanks (12"H) at my eye level.

    Did you ever cover the specifics of the water change system? I'm setting up a small fish room with sponge filtration and I need ideas on how to change the water with the tanks drilled.

    Very nice Ted...
    Question - What air-pump do you recommend for 15 ten gal tanks ?
    A quite air pump for 15 sponge filters ?
    Thank you in advance.

      A small linear piston air pump. I like the brands at Jehmco.com

    Hello Ted what’s your opinion? I see allot of people with 3 or 4 sponge filters in one tank instead of 2 big sponge filters rated for 120 gallons each. What’s you thoughts is there a reason or advantage to multiple instead of 2 bigger sponges. I was checking out some that were rated for 120 gallons each . How many and what size would you put on a 90 gallon tank with a male and female flowerhorn? i do weekly water changes would you go big if it was you or 2 that were rated for 60 gallon each or 2 rated 120 gallons each. Just curious what you would do.

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are two advantages to multiple filters. First, there is more outside surface area on two filters than one, if the total volume of the two filters is the same at the one larger. That outer surface area is where crap enters the sponge, so more water can enter faster with a smaller sponge. Seems counter-intuitive, but it is true. That has nothing to do with the internal surface area where the bacteria grow, which is the same if the combined volume of the two smaller is equal to the volume of the larger. Second, you can clean the sponges on an alternating schedule. If I were filtering a 90-gallon cichlid tank, I would use one 120-gallon filter. Two 60-gallon filters would work too.

    Hi nice video what do you find the most effective way to keep fry with little to none dieing off in your experience of keeping fry thanks

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are talking about cichlids, let the parents care for the fry for a few days before separating any. Overall, keep fry in small tanks and feed them a LOT. Water changes are therefore necessary too. Fry run out of energy very quickly.

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have a male at all? Probably temperature. I am not sure of the exact relationship, but if you are over 80F or under 70F, I would get the temp back into the mid-70's.

      You might want to look at pH as it is a strong influence on gender in most fish.
