- This video we head out in search of whiting and squid! It ended up being a very tough day but we still covered some useful techniques, tricks and most importantly caught some fish!

Nev you’re a gun fisho mate but would love to see a little more from after the fishing sessions not just ending out on the water! These monsters you constantly catch need to be seen after the session on land ie more catch and cooks!!
I'd love to see some gear and kayak breakdowns too!

Hahah very true!!
Fresh squid\ cuttlefish makes all the difference. I had days where I caught 10's of fish, other guys caught nothing on store-bought squid. Fresh bait is sometimes a pain to catch- but it's ALWAYS worth it!

Hey Nev, was this at Cowes I think I saw you here I caught a 47cm whiting I thought it was a snapper which is very uncommon at Cowes that close to shore. It was fighting a lot. Great catch!!

Good fishing Nev, you can't do better than that. Whiting that size are the best eating size.

I cannot believe how nice those whiting were, Nev! Even that leather jacket was a good one! I remember my grandad teaching me how to skin them when I was about 8 years old and I just thought it was the craziest fish in the ocean as you need pliers to get the job done. Always a ripper vid mate :)

OK that settles it, I’m putting out a squid float first when whiting fishing!! Amazing the difference between frozen (same as I do) and the fresh candles. Can’t wait.

Nev when hooking up pipi/mussel bait hook one end then twist the pipi/mussel and hook again, repeat until biat is fully on hook. Hook will hold bait much better this way and give better bites as they can not suck bait off.
Just hooking pipi/mussel as you do at 2:43 whiting will suck bait off and you will not see the bite.

100% fresh bait is key, they get fussy. I love the size and fight of King George, but I do wish they were easier to target on lures, those east coast sand whiting on top water look so exciting.
My dad got a KGW on a Daiwa Wise Minnow at the mouth of the Powlett once, so maybe there’s hope in refining a technique at some point.

Yeah cool, there are a few people get the 50cm ones in western Port. Our port Phillip Bay produces a lot but they are usually smaller than Western Port. I don't know a lot about it but I hear the adults come from S.A and Port Phillip Bay is the breeding ground where the grow up then leave. I wonder how they are in SA
@@davidfargetta2851 I think it’s to do with the water temperature, but they haven’t always been this big in Sydney , only last couple of years we started getting the big ones, but Sydney is very overfished tho.

Keep up the vids mate I love them. Fishing at Cowes is my favourite and this is as close as I can get to it while in Melbourne.
best bait for whiting is the part of the squid that holds the head and the innards to each other, when you pull a head out of a squid you see them down the side, softer then any part of the squid and they absolutely love them.
