Hi, we differ to the usual TH-cam 'reviews' in the sense that we're a retailer and we simply wouldn't stock kit we don't love. We're genuinely enthusiastic about all products we shoot Inside Look videos for because they're products we'd actually buy. Narrowing it down will depend on what you're looking for in the trousers, the fit and your budget. Harry
@@trekitt completely appreciate that Harry and, as said, it’s a decent review. Appreciate you like the kit that you stock (hence the reason for stocking it) just would be helpful for me as a customer of yours to know some down sides. Very few bits of kit are perfect and to understand the pros AND the cons would be more helpful. Doesn’t mean I would buy the item but I would be able to make an objective and informed decision is all. Just my opinion though.
Just ordered another pair of Alpine Kinetic for my wife with size 8 short.perfect for cycling..also very impressed with the Trekkit delivery time and notification
Love all your "reviews". I ordered a pair of these a while ago based on this video, but only managed to wear them yesterday, and totally agree with the review. They were awesome. I wore them over my Montane Terra pants and felt a little too warm on the lowlands, but pretty spot on when up top. I might need to experiment a bit more on that. My only criticism is the leg zips need to be better so you can get them on easily over boots. That said I'd definitely get another pair.
Great review I went I store today and they are not described as a over trouser but obviously from your review you can wear them as a over trouser also can just wear them as normal trousers when it’s not to cold weather/seasons
Yeah, they're not reaaally overtrousers but they can work as such; especially if you're wearing them over leggings/shorts. Much more versatile than a traditional pair of overtrousers that you'd wear over big walking trousers.
Interesting. I use the Paramo Valez Adventure Light trousers if I am wearing trousers when it is raining/ anticipated to rain all day but they are quite warm so this could be an interesting alternative.
Just ordered a pair for cycling in the city as most over trousers are cheap and wide at the bottom..I’m the same size as the guy in the TH-cam so,looking forward to receiving them..very wise to have 34 long as well!!
Looking for trousers to walk the West Highland Way early april and I just can't decide.. these look amazing and being waterproof makes it interesting so i don't have to buy waterproofs separately. What would be your choice for trousers to walk the WHW, or any long hike in Scotland? Next piece I need to decide is a midlayer. I was looking at something like the Montane Protium jacket or the Rab Capacitor. Any suggestions on that? Thanks en keep making these brilliant video's. Love them
These would work, but personally I'd be in 'normal' softshell trousers around that time of year and just stick a pair of lightweight waterproofs in my bag in case. Midlayer wise, what are you using as your outer layer? Softshell?
@@trekitt I use a hagloffs lim jackets. Super lightweight but warm enough when I'm active and with 2 layers underneath. Used it in the Ardennes at -5. The fleece i was wearing is to warm for me when temp goes around 10degrees. I also have an enlightened equipment torrid jacket but i keep that for the evenings or for when it gets really cold
@@trekitt i was also looking at the montane terra pants, classic alrounder and combine that with waterproofs. But 1 pair of trousers that does it all sounds appealing to me. Not sure yet.
@@wouterrombouts9347 The Protium should do the job well as a midlayer. You may be a little toasty with a LIM jacket over the top in April, but worst comes to worst you can just remove a layer. The Terras are also a good trouser, albeit a little thinner and looser fitting.
The Kinetic 2.0 pants lose the reinforced nylon panels, so they have a softer handle and are not quite as durable, but do offer more freedom of movement, they are a lighter duty pant compared to the Alpine version.
Does the offset belt buckle sit on your hip bone when wearing a pack. I am a bit skinny and find that buckles and zips are especially annoying on my hips.
Hey I’m a mailman in MN, I use my rain pants as a hardshell for winter and summer rain. Will the kinetic be good for it? Thanks love watching ALL your videos!!!!
They sound just like a regular pair of softshell trousers. Not as noisy as a 'traditional' waterproof trouser, but not absolutely dead silent either. Harry
It's 3 years later - are they still waterproof? I've found plenty of waterproof trousers are great when new but after a couple of years you get wet thighs. I don't mind spending money of decent gear but the obsession with lightweight does tend to lead to expensive kit that doesn't last very long, which just seems wasteful.
There's still a number of pairs going strong with some of our customers. As ever there is a compromise between weight and durability. A big part in keeping kit going longer is also the proper care and maintenance of the kit.
Popped in a couple of weeks ago to get a pair of Kangris and your awesome colleague let me try a pair of Alpine 2.0 as a base layer (I turned up I jeans...) Was really surprised by how much I liked them! How do you think they compare to something like Keb Actives? Maybe the Rabs are more waterproof but less durable and not quite so good in warmer months? I think I really want a pair damnit.
Keb's are tougher and more breathable as there's no membrane, but not waterproof and require regular waxing. The Kinetics really shine in varied weather conditions; think autumn/winter when it's raining one moment and dry the next. I personally wouldn't wear them in spring/summer.
Most sizes out of stock inc mine. Are you getting any more stock ? If not what other softshell waterproof trousers are their ? (Not over trousers). Thanks. Martin
Hey Martin, it may be worth looking at the regular Kinetic 2.0 trousers instead - they're very similar but we have a full range of sizes. I'll pop a link below. Harry www.trekitt.co.uk/clothing/trousers-shorts/rab-mens-kinetic-20-pant-beluga__41883
I bought a pair of these and on first wear they got absolutely soaked through!!! I'm sure they are great (by all accounts) but I guess the pair I bought must need re-waterproofed. Does anyone know how to do that? Would it be a case of a spray or wash-in solution? Thanks.
It's unusual for them to soak completely through, especially on first use. How long were you out in the elements for? rab.equipment/uk/how-to-wash-your-waterproof-jacket-at-home The above guide is direct from Rab, it's aimed at Jackets, but the principle will be the same for your trousers too.
It's hard to give an accurate answer as it depends how fast you're moving, how much muscle you've got on your legs, altitude, etc. They're not insulated at all, so in sub-zero temperatures when not moving particularly quickly, you may need another layer.
I'm thinking about using it for skiing and maybe commuting by bike in the rain as well . What do you think? Also, do you have any plans on reviewing cumulus gear?
They should work pretty well for both skiing and commuting. Unfortunately Cumulus isn't a brand we stock, so we aren't able to produce any Inside Look videos for them. Harry
I ordered these pants (36 long) a couple of months back from you guys, and to be honest: I love the way the pants feel (even next to the skin), but even the long version is too short for me...I'm 6,1, so not excessively tall and I'm wearing mid high walking boots (Salomon X Ultra 3 MID GORE-TEX). The pants just barely reach over the top part of these boots, and when I sit down they creep up to nearly half way up my calves...
Hi Ben. Do yours have the integrated belt as shown in this video, or the cord adjustment as shown on Rab's web site? I'm trying to figure out if something has changed. UPDATE: Nevermind. I did not realise that there was an Alpine and a regular variant of these pants.
it depends on you leg length i am 5 foot 10 33 inch leg and a large fits purfect with the same sollys as you ....i only wear HH long johns underneath and love mine

IMO I think experienced winter cold weather hikers know what they are talking about when it comes to layering and products. With that being said I’m not a hiker but I’m a garbage man. They probably do, but we try to make these videos for all walks of life, from the experienced to the just starting out. They look good but I wish trousers would come in x-short length for those people who have really short legs.
I have the opposite issues! I suspect it's a matter of economics and having to meet production minimums. Thanks for watching. Pual.
Purchased 2 pairs, 1 as daily pants & larger pair as winter pants over leggings
